Rain proved to be the surprisingly wonderful special sauce for this gorgeous country wedding at Deux Belettes Country Guest House. The surroundings look dewy fresh and lusciously green in every picture. And there are certain things that the rain simply couldn’t touch, like the dining area with the hall of dramatic arches and all of the special details that came pouring out of this rainy day wedding at every turn (pun intended)! Many thanks to Jonathan Wherrett for his photography magic, and don’t miss the full gallery of images right here.

From the Bride… When it came to our wedding, we didn’t have any particular theme in mind but knew we wanted to create a beautiful, natural day to share with our closest family and friends. One of the biggest keys we felt to creating an intimate day was having a venue that was private and allowed us to hold both the ceremony and reception in the same location, which is why we ultimately chose the enchanting Deux Belettes Guest House. Tucked away in the Byron hinterland, entering the property feels as though you have been whisked away thousands of miles to an intimate French hideaway, and it was love at first sight! Ross and Sharon have built and owned this home for over 20 years and it is a continual work in progress as new inspiration continues to expand its nooks and crannies (mostly by the hands of Ross and their son Sven). The night before, the girls and I stayed down at Deux Belettes for a luxurious girls retreat, and we were looked after wonderfully. Although I was probably too excited to truly appreciate the food, they served us the most sumptuous breakfast spread you ever did see, then throughout the wedding day they worked tirelessly behind the scenes like magical elves to make sure everything ran smoothly amongst the rain. At one point Sharon was even on hair-dryer patrol helping me dry out my dress and very wet hair!

Photography was a very high priority for us, and with four months to plan our wedding, we had our work cut out for us trying to find a photographer that we both loved who was also available at such short notice. Coming across Jonathan Wherrett’s work, we immediately fell in love with his natural yet cinematic photography style and gorgeously crisp black and white images, which ticked all our boxes. Meeting Jonathan the day before felt like catching up with an old friend and we knew we had made the right choice.

When I woke up on our wedding day, before anyone else was up, I remember tip-toeing to the gabled window to peek out and hope to dear goodness I could see some blue sky. As I peeked out though, all I could see were big fat rain drops falling and glistening on the wooden tiled roof and the green trees around us. It was such a beautiful calm moment that it was then in the solitude I realized the rain wasn’t going anywhere and we had a new guest turning up to the wedding that day. Originally we had planned to get married on the front lawn under a large tree, but on the day our wedding planner Maria was a godsend. She took a lot of the pressure off us as she had experience with the wet weather and was able to make suggestions on ceremony location changes, how to keep guests as dry as possible, etc.

One of my favorite memories on the day was just after the ceremony when we were all standing around, waiting for family photos. The rain had eased off slightly, so we were not getting wet, but a mist had settled around the property, and as I looked around at my now husband and all our closest family and friends, it truly felt we were in a magical fairytale. While a rainy wedding day wasn’t exactly what we imagined, we still made the same vows to each other, our guests didn’t seem to mind the rain, and it turned out to be more than anything we could have wanted!
