Love is sweet and this Melbourne wedding by Tom Blachford Photography is just about the sweetest way to celebrate it! It is the perfect mix of vintage elegance and eclectic whimsy. We are especially gaga over the gorgeous, lavender bridesmaids dresses and the delicate corsage each lovely lady wore on her wrist. The rest of the details are just as lovely and they can all be found in the full gallery!

From the Bride…We always knew that we wanted to have our ceremony in a place that meant something to us and that was unique in the sense that nobody else had married there before. So choosing my mother’s newly renovated 1930′s house in Hawthorn was an easy decision to make! The girls and I got ready upstairs which made for a no-stress and relaxing morning and the staircase provided the perfect entry for the ceremony. I walked down the aisle to ‘Arabesque’ by Debussy which is the song I always knew I’d walk down the aisle to. Our ceremony was short and sweet and my beautiful sister read a poem she had written for us which was a really special moment.
It was raining all day but luckily it held off while we were getting our photos in the gardens! We chose the Port Melbourne Yacht Club as our reception venue for its endless ocean views. Being great lovers of the beach and the sea, the venue spoke volumes of our relaxed personalities. We definitely did not want a ‘curtain and carpets’ formal kind of set up!
Music is a subject close to both of our hearts so having our friends’ jazz band play for the first part of the reception was absolutely perfect! But we also had a few hours of our favorite 60′s, 70′s & 80′s hits on the iPod for dancing later which was so much fun.
When it came to the flowers I wanted them to look very natural as though they’d just been picked and randomly put into jars, accompanied by tea-light candles. Lilacs, delphiniums and roses were what I went with as the colors tied in to the lilac color of the bridesmaid dresses and the colors of my bouquet.
Aaron and I both really love lollies so choosing personalized rock candy as our bonbonniere was a no brainer! I sourced the jars myself online, had the ‘Love Is Sweet’ stickers made on Etsy and chose the material myself to top them off – they also doubled as the guest place cards. It took quite a while for them to come together but the end result was great and everyone loved them!
Instead of a traditional guestbook, I found these amazing vintage style Penguin Publishing postcards from Anthropologie which we displayed on a table for our guests to sign. Reading through them the next day was so much fun and there were a few tears, and lots of laughter.
We had the most perfect day and everything went to plan and we are both enjoying married life more and more every day!

Is it just me or does every pic of the couple look incredibly awkward? They're painful to look at! Not feeling the love with this wedding at all..
How does it possibly look "awkward"? They're kissing in almost every photo?! and the first one in particular they both have massive smiles on their face while they're kissing... Gorgeous day, beautiful touches... Amazing couple!
WOW! What an amazing looking wedding! Love the colours and the style! So fresh and unique :) How in love are the Bride and Groom? So gorgeous <3
These photos are beautiful candid shots of the couple! I love how they are smiling as they are kissing, I remember how awkward it was to pash in front of ppl on my day! I love all the aspects of this wedding, looks like an amazing day! Congratulations to you both
What a gorgeous wedding!!
I am in love with the colour and the theme! I think the bride and groom look very happy!
And can I just say- How stunning is the bride?!? Wowzers!!
I think the couple looks gorgeous and very happy!
Love the dress & theme
The bride is gorgeous, the BM dresses are gorgeous, but I do agree that the kisses look somewhat uncomfortable and awkward; eyes open, mouth half open, tightly pursed lips, looking in different directions in the dancing photo.
Not sure you can comment on the feeling of a wedding or emotions between couples when you are not at the wedding and only judging from photos. To me they look totally in love and extremely happy. In regards to the dancing photos or the kisses - would it not be more staged and unnatural if the couples were rigid and posed and saying "cheese" at least these photos capture candid moments. Each to their own I suppose
Thanks for all your comments everyone! I'm the bride.
I'm sorry a couple of you feel that we look awkward! As someone else mentioned, these are candid shots and for anyone who's been photographed while you've got hundreds of people around you, it actually can be quite awkward :)
In any case I think we'd rather look awkward than contrived.
Perhaps its just best to say nothing at all if you can't say something nice as this is our wedding, not a photo shoot.
I am very proud of the photos, the styling and my husband, and thanks for all the positive feedback!
Simone
Oh and I encourage you to look through the photo gallery so you can see the whole feel of the day!
i think this wedding and the bride looks amazing and i know what you mean about having photos done with so many people around i found it quite hard !!
Love love love these photos! The wedding looks absolutely to die for and is definitely going in my inspiration folder for my upcoming nuptials!
In regards to the couple looking "awkward" A photo captures a split second of a moment and it's easy to sit there and pick apart things like, "They're not looking in the same direction in the dancing photo" WTH? Are Simone and Aaron meant to constantly say to each other "Where are you looking? Over there? What about now? Let's look here..."
I think they both look happy, natural and as Simone said, if there IS any awkwardness, it's to do with the fact they've got people scrutinising their every move (including the direction their eyes are facing...)
What a stunning wedding!!! The bride and groom look amazing and the whole day looks fabulous!! I think I might be a teeny bit jealous of their wedding day. Love love love it!
Firstly congratulations to the bride and groom! You guys looked amazing and Simone your hard work paid off! Love was definitely the flavour of your big day and that came across in the photos! Your photographer did an awesome job! As a wedding photographer myself I just want to make a comment to those ladies who believe that the couple look awkward.
Firstly 9 times out of 10 the groom doesn't like being in front of the camera which means there's a pretty good chance he's not big on kissing in front of 60 or so people either!
Think about that for a second - is that perhaps why it looks awkward? The answer is probably!
Now add to that a couple who are happy and in love but who have been asked to have their photo taken by aunty Betty and uncle George for the 100th time not to mention their photographer flashing away too....
After a while the couple become fatigued and this can show as awkwardness in the photos and it doesn't matter if you pay your photographer 1 million dollars they can't photoshop that out.
For what it's worth there's maybe two phoos that look awkward and thy are for none of the above reasons - the cake eating shot (it's an awkward position for goodness sake of course it looks awkward!) and where the groom is kissing her while she's signing the registry which again is an awkward position.... See a pattern?
These are called candid shots. Shots that capture the moment and thy have done that fantastically.
Congratulations again Simone everything looked amazing!
Stunning Simone, I love these photos they are stunning - the whole day is stunning!
You don't look awkward at all and when I first saw the photos last week the word "awkward" didn't even cross my mind.
Congratulations on an amazing wedding.
xox
WOW! Stunning! Looking at these images Simone I can see why your wedding was chosen not just to feature in this magazine but to be on the cover. WOW!
As for "awkward", awkward is natural. Ever butted heads or teeth when going for a kiss? And on your wedding day you have your photographer saying do this and this, while you guys just stand there, following instructions and talking through your teeth to eachother about how silly it feels. Hard to look glamorous 100% of the time, but I think you managed 99.99%!
All the best to Simone and Aaron for a long and happy life together! xx
Did I make up the bit about it being on the cover? Possibly. But it totally should be!
Stunning and glamous! The couple seems happy to me. Congrats and best wishes!
sim- you look amazing and so happy. What a stunning couple. All shots are amazing and indicitive of a couple over the moon in love on their wedding day! Stunning. Xx
Beautiful couple! Such a romantic feel to this wedding with all of the pretty colors. Love the bride's shoes too!
Sim, your photos look FANTASTIC. I can gaurantee you that my wedding photos won't look half as good, and you make being married look so easy.
Seriously as far as I'm concerned, that just because there are one or two posiibly awkward photos in there (which I refuse to believe that candid means awkward) doesn't mean that your whole day was like that.
Bascially, who cares what any of us think anwyay. Your day was perfect, and just what you Imagined.
If my wedding looks half as good as yours, then I'll be over the moon.
Simone,
I have said it before and I will say it again, beautiful just BEAUTIFUL!!! I am super wedding jealous. Your wedding was amazing and the photo's reflect this. I don't think you guys look uncomfortable at all. People need to mind what they say on these sorts of things because obviously they are forgetting this is a real wedding and there ARE real people behind it. There is so much love between the 2 of you that it is obvious!! The way you look at each other, you are the only 2 people in the room. The 2 of you are just gorgeous and your bridal party is stunning. You officically have the BEST taste, you should be a wedding planner and decorator, everything came together perfectly. I loved sharing your journey with you and loved seeing all of your ideas come together.
I love it all and I am glad you had such an amazing wedding and honeymoon.
All the best for the future sweetie xx
Everything is perfectly fabulous! From the gorgeous couple to the stylish bridesmaid dresses to the special details - looks like it was a stunning day!
gorgeous bride. lovely wedding.
Oh my goodness, this wedding is GORGEOUS. I about died when I saw these photos. LOVE.
WOW! Firstly, Tom you have outdone yourself! Simone & Aaron congratulations on a beautiful wedding. The colour palette, the relaxed styling and everything else about it is just gorgeous!
I don't know this couple but can I just say how refreshing it is to see a bride and groom not posing in their photo's like a couple of 80's glamour models. Or even worst the contrived "quirky"-staring into space-holding hands that is so common in wedding photography these days. These photos documented the day as they happened and they are beautiful just like the bride, groom and the loved ones depicted in them!
Congrats!
These are the most beautiful wedding photos I have seen. Beautiful couple, beautiful brides maids. Fantastic photographer that has captured every moment and then some to me. It's lovely to have action shots and not all staged it brings out the essence of the day and the night time shots. They look very much in love and it all looks perfect. I couldnt pick and bad moments in these photos even the off the cuff moments, not all photos have to be perfect (and there are so many of them) that's what makes them special. Very hard to put them all into an album.
Peace, Love and happiness
To me, imperfection is one of the most beautiful things in the world. Perfect, uniform, run-of-the-mill, where is the fun in that? Imperfection, real-ness, awkwardness, these are the things that make us different, unique, special and stop-and-stare stunning. The awkwardness of a first kiss, the unique way that your partner looks at you or holds your hand, that crooked little smile of your first born child... these ARE the beautiful things in life. I believe that what some people are highlighting as awkward is one of the cutest, sweetest, most beautiful things I have seen on SMP. What I see is a bride and groom who are sharing a delicate uncomfortableness with the goings on around them while still marveling at the beauty of each other and their relationship. As I look at these photographs I can almost feel the pitter patter of their hearts and the butterflies in their stomachs, but most of all the love that flows between them. I can clearly see the strength in their unison, they are holding each other up and supporting each other through the first exciting yet daunting hours of the rest of their lives. Simone and Aaron, you are beautiful and I don't blame some people for feeling a little jealous of your undoubtable adoration for each other.
