I love this wedding and the fact that the bride, the oldest of nine, had all her siblings in her wedding. This celebration truly was a family DIY affair with the groom’s mother making by hand that incredibly delicious and gorgeous looking work of art that they call a ganache cake. Scroll down to see it, you really don’t want to miss it! Captured by Momento Photography, this vintage DIY is just bursting with ideas to infuse into your own day. From the Bride…I never was one to dream as a girl of what I’d want when I got married, so I actually had to stop and think. I found pretty soon though that I could only ‘think’ in shades of rose, ivory & grey. I considered blue briefly, but immediately my brain would jam up. So dusty rose it was. We knew straight away that we wanted to save as much money as possible, and that I was capable of giving any crafty project a go once. I’ve always loved DIY projects, bargain hunting and op-shops (thrift stores as you call them). I think our whole theme was born from about 80 little candle melted organza flowers that I had made, wondering what I’d do with them. They ended up being on our invitations, bridesmaid’s shoes and bridesmaid’s hairpieces.
The ceremony was both our favorite part of the day. We wrote the entire thing ourselves and had a long-standing family friend conduct it for us (with a pastor on hand to legalize) so were nervous as to how it would turn out. But it was an absolute dream come true. We had heaps of non-invited acquaintances attend the ceremony too which was so lovely, and join us for homemade biscuits (which my amazing mother created) and punch afterwards under the trees.
We saved money at the reception by only paying for an entre’ and main course, to be followed by a gourmet local ice cream buffet that we brought ourselves, served with the most delectable ganache mud cake made by Jason’s own mother. I tell you, that cake tasted as killer as it looked! And she brought it all the way from Melbourne. Everything you see is 100% icing too – from the ribbon, to the lace and the tiny strings of pearls! She crafted my vision perfectly. Our centerpieces were cake stands (or homemade cake stands made from a plate and upside-down light fitting) piled high with marshmallows. These not only looked cute but the guests loved plopping them in their champagne all night!!
The funnest thing about the wedding was probably the enthusiasm of my 8 siblings!! I am the oldest of 9 children and they all adore and hang off Jason like an older brother. Mum made pink bow ties for all the little boys and there was nothing cuter than seeing them run around, handing out fan programs at the ceremony, showing guests to their seats at the reception, gazing at the cake and telling people what the ‘kissing bells’ were for on their tables. They are still talking about it all.

Great bouquet! I really love their sign frame
This was a truly inspired wedding! Not only did they save thousands, but all the little things made it so much more special.
My sister (the bride) really is one of the most organized beings on the planet, but it just goes to show what you can do with a bit of focus.
She got everyone helping - she got me to design that framed tree (photo 5), on photoshop for the fingerprints. Looked great when it had been covered with fingerprint leaves.
The most perfect day.
May your wedding, your love and your lives continue to inspire=)
How did you make that stunning bouquet??
@Anne, glad you liked it! A good friend of mine came up with the idea and technique. It's long strips of dress pattern paper, folded over a couple of time to make it into a long skinny ribbon (don't press down, puffiness is nice), then wrapped & twisted around a stick in a rosey-fashion. Secure with florist tape.
We tucked a bit of real foliage in there and it balanced it out nicely.
What a beautiful couple. Loved the marshmallow table centre pieces - what an effective and fun way to decorate the tables. I am sure all of the guests would have enjoyed this little treat.
I particularly liked the way that the cake was drapped with pearls and all of the little finishing touches that make a good wedding, great!
Congratulation on such a successful day and a day that I am sure the whole family and guests alike, will remember with much fondness. Great photos!
WOW Hannah! You guys looks amazing ; ) Congrats again!!!!!!!!
Love your wedding!!! Absolutely beautiful. We are getting married 10/29 and can't wait. I have to ask a question about the guys attire. We have been on the hunt for gray vest and pants exactly like your guys but cannot find them anywhere!!! Where did you purchase if you dont mind sharing. Thanks!!
So beautiful Hannah
hi Hannah! wow congratulations your day was just gorgeous!!! love all the details and that cake looks so yummy!!!! congrats again luv!
@Angela. Thanks for your kind comments! We hunted high and low too. Our guy's clothes all came from Roger David. I should have put that in the credits... Being a summer's day, we opted out of getting suit jackets and just mixed and matched from the rack. All the boys have been regularly reusing their clothes too, since they are so versatile!
Hope that helps :)

Hi Hannah! Love the wedding! Where did you get that custom hard candies?
@Amanda. In Tasmania, there is a company called Sweet-As (www.sweet-as.com.au) which did an amazing job! And so many cool flavours. They ship anywhere.
I love the creativity in this wedding, it is such fun to make things out of unexpected materials, love the bouquet!
Thanks Hannah! :)
