Perched above the Tuscan countryside, it offered endless views of rolling hills and valleys, all wrapped in soft, golden light that seemed to linger throughout the day. There was an immediate sense of calm and intimacy—an atmosphere that invited presence, reflection, and connection. Surrounded by olive groves, cypress trees, and fragrant gardens, the villa felt cinematic yet deeply personal. Its terraces opened seamlessly to the landscape, creating spaces that felt refined without being overdesigned, allowing the natural beauty of Tuscany to remain the true focal point. For our vow renewal, Villa Montanare became more than a backdrop—it became part of our story, holding sacred promises, quiet moments, and joyful celebration in a setting that felt both soulful and enduring. Ten years after first saying “I do,” this vow renewal originated from the deep desire to renew our vows in front of our children & loved ones, fueled by gratitude and growth over the past decade with God at the center of our marriage. What began many years ago—unexpectedly, in Las Vegas—has since unfolded into a marriage anchored in faith, shaped by growth, and strengthened through every season of life. Over the past decade, our promise has matured into something quieter yet deeper: a love refined by time, grace, and intentional choice. With God firmly at the center of our marriage, renewing our vows in Italy felt like a natural continuation and celebration of our love story—a pause to honor where we’ve been, who we’ve become, and the family we’ve built together. Standing before one another once again, including our children, the moment held even greater meaning. For this milestone moment, I sought a gown that felt timeless yet reflective of my personal evolution and our growth as husband & wife over the last decade. I found the one by Justin Alexander at the bridal boutique in Lewisville, and my dress perfectly aligned with my vision—romantic, timeless, and effortlessly elegant. The dress featured delicate lace details, a soft yet structured silhouette, and a sweeping veil by Rita Vinieris that caught the Tuscan light beautifully as it trailed along cypress-lined paths at the Villa Montanare. When I first saw the gown and tried it on, I felt incredibly emotional—like stepping fully into the woman, wife, and mother I have become over the past ten years. It was the perfect balance of grace, femininity, and quiet confidence.

We pampered our guests on the first night with a pizza welcome party. On the big day, we had a rich cocktail hour, a finger food buffet, and a delicious menu with: Cappellacci Stuffed with rocket, Bronte pistachios, and Parmigiano, Tagliatelle with duck ragout, Lamb in a crust of Bronte pistachio, seasoned mixed salad, and Wedding cake, Tiramisu, and strawberry Affogato tower

The design aesthetic was inspired by the natural elegance of the Italian countryside—soft, romantic, and organic. A refined palette of blush, soft ivory, and muted greens was woven throughout the celebration, echoing the surrounding landscape. Lush floral arrangements adorned the ceremony arch and reception tables, featuring garden roses, delicate blooms, and flowing greenery. The tablescape was intentionally light and airy, layered with floral linens, crystal glassware, and romantic candlelight beneath cascading chandeliers. Every detail felt thoughtful yet effortless—elevated without overpowering the setting. The decor allowed the landscape to remain the focal point, creating a seamless harmony between design and place.

In the soft Tuscan light, they renewed their vows as a quiet act of faith—an intimate promise of love and devotion, anchored in God and witnessed by their kids. The vow renewal ceremony was intentionally intimate and deeply rooted in faith, designed to feel both reverent and beautifully understated. With God at the center of their marriage, the ceremony focused on gratitude, covenant, and the quiet strength found in choosing one another daily. Thoughtfully selected scripture readings spoke to love as patient, enduring, and selfless—mirroring the journey of a marriage shaped over ten years. Rather than recreating their original vows, the couple chose to reflect on how their commitment has evolved, acknowledging the grace required to grow together through every season of life. Set against the soft Tuscan light and natural landscape, the ceremony unfolded with an unhurried, almost sacred stillness. The presence of their children added an unspoken depth, transforming the moment into a reflection of legacy and faith lived out. It was less about formality and more about meaning—an elegant expression of a marriage anchored in God’s guidance, protection, and enduring love.

It allowed us to fully surrender to the moment—embracing the emotion, stillness, and beauty we so often preserve for others. This vow renewal was not only a personal milestone, but a reminder of why we believe so deeply in timeless and meaningful storytelling that was captured so beautifully by the most talented photographer,r Hann, ah as well as our videographer, Jacob. Closing, what began once as a promise between two people has grown into a family of four, grounded in faith and guided by God’s love and protection. This 10-year vow renewal was a celebration of grace, growth, and enduring devotion—and a beautiful beginning to the chapters and seasons still to come.

A Winter Editorial Rooted in Heritage, Historic Elegance, and Heirloom Romance at The Mount

Inspired by the idea that historic homes quietly absorb the lives lived within them, this editorial reflects how modern couples step into spaces shaped by generations past, adding something entirely their own. The design narrative centers on the concept of inheritance: not only what we are given, but what we choose to carry forward. It is a dialogue between old and new, tradition and reinterpretation. We intentionally wove in elements from previous generations – heirloom vintage silverware passed down through families, classic Ginori 1735 china, Italian linens, antique silver, and calligraphed menus – to honor the rituals and craftsmanship of the past. These pieces were balanced with a fresh, contemporary palette and playful patterning, creating a layered aesthetic that feels both reverent and modern. At its heart, this editorial is a reflection on continuity – on love carried through space, ritual, and memory. It reminds us that while we inherit places, stories, and traditions, we also have the freedom to reinterpret them, leaving behind something meaningful and uniquely our own.

Warm winter tones of brown, neutral pink, and deep burgundy were used to mirror the palette of Edith Wharton’s boudoir. Together, they create a sense of richness and warmth indoors, standing in beautiful contrast to the stark white snow just beyond the windows.

Set within the storied walls of The Mount, the former home of Edith Wharton, this editorial examines the idea of inheritance through a contemporary lens. Wharton was, after all, a storyteller; it felt fitting to consider how modern couples enter spaces already steeped in history, and how they, in turn, add a chapter of their own. Every element was chosen to feel as though it belonged. The setting felt collected rather than styled – resonant with the past while remaining unmistakably of its moment. A grazing table for cocktail hour was layered with texture, fruit, and florals, while the reception was set within the gallery for an intimate celebration among the couple’s closest friends and family. Rather than imposing a new aesthetic, the design listened to the house itself. The Italian marble fireplace and architectural details echoed through our choice of linens, and the color palette was drawn directly from Wharton’s iconic burgundy toile boudoir. As evening fell, the couple slipped away to the library for a dirty martini, surrounded by Wharton’s book collection. In that moment, they weren’t just guests of the house; they were both readers and writers of its stories, adding their own chapter to a narrative that has been handed down through generations.

The bride’s first look was a drop-waist Mikado ball gown. The silhouette was pure drama. A plunging sweetheart neckline, framed by sculptural U-wire detailing, gave way to a precisely constructed bodice that felt structured yet feminine. But it was the skirt that truly captivated — a sweeping masterpiece crafted with over 14 yards of satin layered atop structured netting and lining to create exaggerated volume and movement. Finished with horsehair at the hem for added shape and a scalloped zipper guard for a couture-level detail, the gown delivered a regal presence that mirrored the grandeur of the historic setting. It was a statement in modern romance – bold, intentional, and unforgettable. For the second look, the gown offered a softer, more intricate counterpoint: a beaded mermaid silhouette layered in Chantilly lace, glitter tulle, and hand-placed appliqués. The sweetheart neckline and delicate peplum detail created an elongated, sculpted shape, while the sheer bodice gave the illusion of lace floating against the skin. Dozens of appliqués were meticulously arranged over 25 hours, with hundreds of beads, sequins, and pearls applied by hand — each detail catching the light with a quiet shimmer. A sweeping 100-inch train and pearl button accents added just enough drama for the evening, proving that delicacy and impact can coexist beautifully.

The escort table was layered with overflowing fruits and vegetables, interwoven with blooms for a lush, textured effect. Garden-style arrangements of tulips, roses, ranunculus, and lisianthus were crafted to feel abundant yet curated – overflowing, layered, and natural, but never wild, striking the perfect balance between opulence and understated elegance.

One example of traditions reimagined: the couple chose to get ready together. This allowed their wedding morning to unfold much like their everyday life. Side by side, they shared quiet, intimate moments – fastening final details and lingering in each other’s arms. Rather than feeling staged, the morning felt deeply personal, offering a genuine glimpse into their life as a couple and how they begin their days together. Instead of retreating indoors in the low temperatures, the couple embraced the snow, letting the season shape their memories. Stepping outside into the crisp air, the landscape became a backdrop that felt both romantic and real. The bride’s choice to pair her robe with her trusty L.L.Bean boots added a playful, practical touch – a reminder that authenticity often makes the most meaningful statement.

1. Embrace Layered Abundance. Think in textures and heights: mix lush garden-style florals with fruits, vegetables, and greenery for depth. Lean on Seasonal Richness Winter-inspired shades like deep purple, burgundy, burnt orange, and blush pink bring warmth and depth. Let your palette flow across flowers, linens, and tableware for cohesion that feels thoughtful and intentional. 3. Mix Old and New Combine heirloom pieces and antiques – like vintage tableware or classic linens – with contemporary textures and modern patterns. This creates visual interest and grounds the design in both history and the present. 4. Let the Space Speak Historic estates have their own stories. Pull inspiration from architectural details, fireplaces, or existing color palettes to ensure the design feels collected rather than imposed. 5. Balance Opulence with Intimacy. Abundance is beautiful, but scale matters. Keep arrangements layered and overflowing, yet proportioned to the space. This ensures luxury feels welcoming, not overwhelming. 6. Infuse Personal Moments Steal a moment away for the couple – whether it’s a quiet drink in a library or a private walk through the gardens. These intimate touches connect the design to the people at the core of the celebration, not just the aesthetics. 7. Play With Edible Deco:r Incorporate fruits, vegetables, or even small edible accents into tablescapes or grazing stations. They add color, texture, and a sense of generosity, while keeping arrangements dynamic and layered.

While history and luxury defined the atmosphere, it was the intimate, personal moments that gave the celebration its soul. Handwritten letters exchanged between the couple formed quiet, sentimental vignettes, while calligraphy place cards and menus carried an intentional, heirloom-quality, thoughtful piece to be cherished long after this special day has passed. Vintage silverware passed down through generations, and the layered textures on the grazing table introduced a sense of collection and continuity, grounding the design in something tangible. On the escort table, an artful arrangement of fruits, vegetables, and seasonal blooms created a feeling of abundance and depth without excess – a reminder that it is often the simplest, most intentional moments that bring a celebration fully to life.

A Timeless All-White Wedding with French Château Elegance and Haitian Heritage

The bride had a very specific vision for the design and overall vibe, and that was an all-white, classic affair that was European-inspired, French Chateau, and timeless. I wanted our wedding to be photographed and designed in a way where if someone were to see it 100 years from now, it would be timeless, and they wouldn’t be able to tell what year it was,” the bride explains. “I didn’t want any trends and popular fads at our wedding—just something timeless and chic. I think we nailed it.” As well as plenty of nods to their shared Haitian roots (this involved hiring a Haitian chef, DJ, and officiant, as well as prioritizing a bilingual experience for guests who exclusively speak Creole), so “everyone felt seen and included” was executed to the fullest.

Barbarah purchased her Sareh Nouri wedding dress, a lace ball gown with long sleeves and a high neckline, from Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City after a long search. “The moment I put it on, I felt butterflies. I kept waiting for these butterflies after trying on 50 to 80 different dresses, and it finally (and only!) came with this one,” she explains. She worked with the atelier’s seamstresses to customize the ensemble; they added more buttons down the front to elongate the gown, closed the neckline a bit higher, and introduced more tulle at the bottom for extra drama. “My favorite wedding dresses of all time were worn by Grace Kelly, Kate Middleton, and Jasmine Tooks, so this was the exact look I was going for,” she adds, noting that she was also influenced by her favorite movie, The Princess Diaries. “But I never wanted to be Mia Thermopolis! I’ve always admired and wanted to be Queen Clarisse Renaldi, and this dress was my moment to be her. This is definitely the gown she’d wear.”

Barbarah’s bridesmaids stepped out in black Anthropologie Weddings dresses of their choosing. “It was very important to me that the girls chose the style of dress that made them the most comfortable and beautiful. My only rule was that the dress was black and floor-length, along with the same silk material,” she explains. “Black is my favorite color, and everyone looks chic in black.”

[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]The couple agreed early on that they’d both don white on their wedding day. “The wedding isn’t just about the bride—the groom should feel just as special,” explains Barbarah. Fequiere joined his bride in the wedding’s signature shade in his ensemble from The Black Tux, complete with a white tuxedo jacket, black tuxedo pants, a velvet bow tie, and cap-toe shoes. His half of the wedding party, including his best man, who has known the couple since their school days, also selected tuxedos from The Black Tux.[/field]

We are both Haitian, and so we absolutely knew that having Haitian food at our wedding was 1000% anon-negotiablee. We have been to dozens of weddings where the food was bland and didn’t represent the couple’s culture at all,l and for us, this was one of the most important details that could not be missed. The entire event’s cuisine was handled by the couple’s on-site chef and his team. “Lamartine Alvarez from Chez Lama Haitian Cuisine came all the way from Nashville,” explains the bride. “We had Haitian Fritay for cocktail hour, which is an assortment of fried foods. It consists of a variety of delicacies such as fried plantains, pate kode, accra, and marinade. For dinner, we had their Haitian Black rice, which is made with Djon-Djon mushrooms, which give the rice its distinct black color and texture. Along with fried plantains, we served chicken in sauce topped off with Pikliz, which is a condiment in Haitian cuisine of pickled cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, and other spicy peppers to make the dish spicy.

The bride had a very specific vision for the ceremony’s décor. “I wanted the entire aisle to run all the way up until the gorgeous marble dome, which was covered in white florals. I’ve never loved how wedding aisles seem to stop at the chairs and that there is a gap between the chairs and the altar, so I wanted my flowers to completely cover it, from the entrance of the ceremony all the way up to the marble dome,” she explains. Xpressions Floral Designs delivered and ensured all of the flowers used were white sans greenery, per the bride’s request.

An empty chair was marked to honor the memory of Barbara’s late brother, who passed away when he was 16. “My favorite part of the day was seeing a butterfly land right behind my husband as he was saying his vows,” reflects the bride. “Honoring my late brother meant the world to me, and I did go visit his gravesite and ask him to show me a butterfly on my wedding day to let me know that he was there. The day was complete for me after seeing the little butterfly—I knew my brother was there with us.”

Retro mixed with elevated summer camp on the lake – Sunny yellows, orange tones, and playful pinks, mixed with botanical and checkerboard patterns, gave the design a one-of-a-kind look that played with luxury and comfort. At their welcome party, inspired by a summer garden, guests enjoyed passed hors d’ouevres that included pork belly bao buns, chicken and waffle sliders, and crab cakes; a Mediterranean station and a mezze station. At the wedding cocktail hour, guests noshed on raw and roasted seasonal Vegetables, and several passed appetizers, including pork skewers, smoked briskets with jam, chicken satay, caprese bocconcini, bagel spice gougeres, and tuna tartar. Their signature cocktail and mocktail, called “The Moon” and “The Stars,” a nod to their favorite saying, were inspired by a Raspberry Smash. For dinner, guests dined on panzanella salad and chose between braised short rib with port reduction, miso-glazed sea bass, or sweet corn risotto.

They intentionally chose venues, Mountain Winery and Carmel Valley Ranch, that offered an indoor-outdoor feel and overlooked naturally beautiful landscapes, avoiding a traditional ballroom setting in favor of environments that felt open, scenic, and connected to nature. The aesthetic was designed to feel soft, romantic, and organic, allowing the surrounding scenery to take center stage while being enhanced with intentional design elements. For the reception, the couple focused on creating a warm and intimate atmosphere, using gentle lighting and lanterns to evoke romance. The lanterns subtly referenced Jake’s Asian heritage, drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese lanterns while still fitting seamlessly into the overall design. Cultural fusion was a core pillar of the wedding vision. Rather than separating traditions, the couple wove their backgrounds together throughout the experience, from fashion and décor to food and guest experience. This included a thoughtfully curated culinary program featuring Indian and Eastern Asian-inspired items, and creative fusion elements, such as lotus root prepared in an Indian style. A boba station during cocktail hour reflected their shared love of the delicious Asian classic! Personal storytelling played a major role in the design. Tables were named after places the couple had traveled together, many of them national parks, reinforcing their shared passion for outdoor adventures. Each table included a photo from that location, while the head table was named “Home,” featuring the very first photo the couple ever took together, grounding the celebration in intimacy and meaning. Even the favors reflected this layered vision: loose-leaf teas sourced from both Taiwan and India, paired with local honey from Carmel Valley Ranch, symbolizing the coming together of cultures, travel, and place. Overall, the design was intentional, heartfelt, and experiential, focused on creating a wedding that felt personal, culturally inclusive, and rooted in the natural beauty the couple loves most.

The proposal took place during a hiking trip to the Eastern Sierras, just beyond Yosemite. Ramya, the bride, had previously shared with Jake, the groom, that one of her favorite landscapes was an alpine lake set against dramatic mountain backdrops. Although they loved outdoor adventures together, they had never visited this particular scenery yet, and Jake secretly planned the proposal around this dream setting. To keep it a surprise, Jake asked a friend to pretend to organize a group trip with his girlfriend and the couple, making it seem like it was not Jake’s idea. After driving to the Eastern Sierras, they went on a long hike that ended at a stunning alpine lake surrounded by mountains. At the top, Jake’s friend and his girlfriend suggested taking photos of the scenery. They first asked Ramya to pose for pictures, then encouraged her to take a photo with Jake because the view was so beautiful. When Jake stepped in, he proposed. The only moment she realized what was happening was when she felt how fast his heart was beating. To make the moment even more special, Jake had secretly packed nicer clothes for her from her own closet so they could change at the top and take photos. In the end, her favorite images ended up being the ones taken in their hiking clothes, which captured the authentic and candid moments.

Indian Wedding Ceremony: For the Indian wedding ceremony, Ramya wore two traditional saris that she and Jake purchased together during a trip to Chennai, India. The pieces were not from a specific designer, making them especially personal and meaningful, as they reflected a direct connection to place and culture rather than a single brand. Each sari required individual tailoring, adding to the craftsmanship and care involved in bringing the look together for the ceremony. Western Wedding Ceremony: For the Western wedding ceremony, the bride chose a white lace sari-style gown by Premya by Manishii, a designer known for creating fusion pieces that blend Western bridal elements with traditional Indian silhouettes. The look combined the romantic lace and elegance of a classic wedding dress with the drape and cut of a sari, perfectly reflecting the couple’s intention to honor both cultures in a seamless, modern way. The piece was selected specifically for the ceremony as a visual representation of the couple’s blended traditions. For the reception, the bride made her grand entrance in a custom lehenga by Falguni Shane Peacock (FSP). Glittered with strands of gold, beading, and deep hues, this lehanga took her into their first dance and the special performance for her new husband and family. She later changed into a House of CB white dress and danced the night away with loved ones.

New York City is where Ayesha and Ben are happiest and where they call home. The energy of the city feels inherently celebratory, vibrant, and deeply welcoming to the couple. It felt natural to anchor such an important part of their lives in a city that brings them such joy. Practically, it was also conducive to their global guest list (with a portion of their 220 guests traveling in from about a dozen countries). The weekend was filled with a range of celebrations: a Mendhi, welcome party, Baraat, Jai Maala, Saat Pheras ceremony, and Sangeet all transpired before the big day itself. Ayesha initially experienced the New York Public Library as a 5-year-old visiting from Mumbai. She was one of those girls who dreamed about her wedding when she was little, and remembers standing in front of the iconic venue in complete awe of its scale and history. Ayesha and Ben both wanted to get married in a place that felt timeless. Somewhere, they could return year after year. They took pride in choosing a venue that has welcomed multicultural celebrations and where many milestones have been hosted.

Ayesha and Ben got engaged on April 4, 2024, at Wildflower Farms—a secluded Auberge resort in upstate New York. He had been planning the surprise for months, telling Ayesha only that they were going away for the weekend and refusing to share a single detail. What she didn’t know was that he had coordinated with the property’s owners to propose under a tree-lined canopy by the river with champagne waiting. The day before, a torrential rainstorm rolled in and washed out the original plan, forcing him to pivot at the last minute. With their help, he transformed a fireside cottage on the property to serve as the new setting and led his bride-to-be there under the guise of a simple romantic morning stroll. Inside, with the rain tapping against the windows and a fire crackling, Ben got down on one knee. “There is nothing like seeing your best friend in life kneel in that formal, intentional way and ask the biggest question you’ll ever hear,” Ayesha recalls. “I was so overwhelmed that I completely forgot to look at the ring—until I did, and nearly fainted.” The five-carat pear-shaped diamond with French-cut emeralds set into a platinum band is an ode to the women in Ayesha’s maternal line, all of whom wear pear-shaped rings. Over time, the pear has become a symbol in her family, even woven into the wedding day’s crest, so it was a deeply personal choice. The rest of the weekend was slow and joyful: feeding animals at the farm, indulgent farm-to-table meals, and, of course, lots of Champagne! That weekend, Ayesha and Ben gathered their immediate families for a celebratory dinner at the Bowery Hotel—a location that they (and many others) gathered at once more for the couple’s welcome party and Sangeet.

For the Welcome Party, it was all about setting the tone for the weekend with a visual conversation that married history and reinvention. Something old and something new. Sandra Mansour’s atelier allowed Ayesha to reimagine one of her “Quiet Fields” silhouettes in a custom ivory-gold palette, a subtle twist on the traditional bridal white. To ground the modernity of the dress, she paired it with Dior slingbacks from 2010. A Mendhi kickstarted the wedding weekend, with Ayesha donning saffron-hued Dolly J and her grandmother’s vintage jewels. A change into custom Sandra Mansour and vintage Dior heels for the welcome party set the tone of old-meets-new. For the Baraat, Jai Maala, Saat Pheras ceremony, and Sangeet downtown at the Bowery Hotel, the couple chose pieces by Masaba, with Ayesha adding a 600-year-old gold belt worn by generations of women in her family, and then they both changed into custom Rohit and Rahul for the latter half of the night. Vera Wang’s “Mia” was the very first gown Ayesha pulled to try on — and she was instantly drawn to it. She had a gut feeling it was the one. There was something about its structure and movement that felt like a mirror of her personality: elegant and timeless, yet young, feminine, and a touch irreverent. The soft tulle through the center reminded her of a ballerina mid-motion, and the way the dress moved felt alive. It embodied everything she wanted in that moment — grace with a little edge, romance with confidence. For her final look of the weekend, Ayesha wanted something that felt like both a revelation and a release — something ultra-comfortable yet undeniably luxurious. The Dottie dress from Danielle Frankel’s newest “X Clementine” collection embodied exactly that balance. Its ethereal draping and heavenly-soft textures moved effortlessly, allowing the bride to dance and celebrate without constraint. After a weekend of layered meaning and tradition, Ayesha wanted to begin her marriage in total newness — and wearing the newest collection piece felt like the most poetic way to step into that next chapter. In Hindu tradition, the color black is believed to ward off the “nazar” — the evil eye — a quiet form of protection during life’s most auspicious moments. Wanting to weave that symbolism into her bridal look, Ayesha chose to forgo conventional white accessories for black ones instead. Black Khaite heels and Jennifer Behr earrings became modern talismans — elegant, sculptural pieces that balanced purity with power, and paid homage to heritage through subtle rebellion. She also slipped on a diamond tennis necklace that her parents gifted her, which felt like a symbolic way of them ushering her through the momentous occasion.

A global offering of wines was on offer to pair with the meal. Guests also signed special bottles for the newlyweds to toast with on milestone anniversaries. The bride’s family brought in special red wine from their home cellar to be poured tableside, all coming from California vineyards they had visited together.

For the ceremony in the round, the circular chuppah was covered with peach, coral, and green flowers and an abundance of greenery from all sides. Cocktail hour boasted statement pieces with anthurium, orchids, lotus pods and flowers, dahlias, ranunculus, Japanese anemones, and roses. On the reception tables, low arrangements of peach roses and ranunculus, vibrant coral and persimmon dahlias, roses, and anemones, pale green lisianthus and hellebores, and deep plum-colored ranunculus mixed with greenery, including ferns and ruscus. Fresh fruit and hand-painted gold were incorporated to add dimension and symbolism. A mix of taper candles and votives illuminated the storied space, with gold accents on everything from the chairs to the monogrammed napkin rings to the menus to the tabletop, further adding to the warm glow. And an organic installation of assorted greenery dripped overhead, while underfoot, the dancefloor was covered with a design inspired by an aerial view of manicured gardens.

We initially envisioned a classic black-and-white palette and believed it was the best way to create a chic, timeless look—though my husband was quick to point out that it felt a bit too minimal for his taste. As our planner, Sacoya, and I reviewed décor options, she suggested incorporating warm champagne, amber, and creamy beige to soften the contrast while still honoring the original vision. The result struck the perfect balance and felt like a true reflection of us both. Gold accents were a must for us and added warmth and polish throughout the design. Black, soft ivory, warm champagne, amber, creamy beige, and gold were the winning combination!

We first met as students—Leonard at Morehouse College and me at Spelman College, where I was taking a class at Morehouse. What began as a simple introduction turned into a connection that ebbed and flowed through our twenties, as we both continued to grow into ourselves. During the COVID years, we reconnected with a renewed sense of clarity, grounded in a deeper understanding of ourselves and each other. On October 26, 2024, during Spelman and Morehouse’s Homecoming, Leonard brought our story beautifully full circle. While I was eager to head straight to the tailgate, he insisted we stop by the building where we first met “for old time’s sake,” despite my attempts to suggest we visit later in the day. As we approached the building, he casually suggested checking whether the doors were locked—a suggestion I met with an eye roll and a reminder that the tailgate was waiting. Before I could turn away, Leonard gently took my hands and began telling our story—how everything started right there, within the walls of the very building where we first met. As those early memories came rushing back, the moment felt both grounding and surreal. Just as it all began to click, Leonard took a deep breath, slipped off his shoe—explaining quite seriously that the brick was “hard on his knees”—and got down on one knee. The proposal was thoughtful, sincere, and perfectly balanced with his signature humor. It wasn’t about spectacle, but about intention, timing, and honoring the journey that led us back to where it all began—this time, choosing forever.

My final fitting took place in London, and my parents and I made a trip of it—my last as a Turner before becoming a Gaffney—a memory I’ll always cherish. On the wedding day, my wedding day glam team, B for Beauté and Glam by Maame were the perfect duo, making me feel absolutely beautiful and truly like a bride in my wedding gown.

For us, a great meal has always been a love language, and we wanted our guests to feel genuinely cared for and well-fed throughout the entire celebration. Working with C. Parks Catering & Events, we approached the menu with the same intention as the rest of the day—indulgent yet approachable, and rooted in things we truly love. Our custom bar menu, thoughtfully executed by B&B Beverage Management, reflected that balance perfectly. Guests were welcomed with champagne upon arrival, served with custom monogrammed drink clips, setting a celebratory tone before the ceremony. During cocktail hour, our signature cocktails were introduced—each both personal and classic—with a French 75 for me and a Manhattan for Leonard, a proud New Yorker. Cocktail hour was designed to feel abundant and fun, featuring some of our favorite bites. Leonard’s love of oysters made live, shucked-to-order oysters by Oysters XO a must, alongside bacon-wrapped filet mignon bites, crab cakes, French fries served with mini condiment pipettes, and chicken and waffles—a subtle nod to Atlanta, the city we call home. For dinner, it was important to offer comforting yet elevated options that felt just as thoughtful as the rest of the experience. Guests could choose between rosemary-roasted airline chicken breast with a shiitake madeira demi-glace and au gratin potatoes, blackened grouper with tarragon brown butter and mashed potatoes, or Italian slow-roasted short ribs served with cheesy polenta.

With a background in Customer Experience, I was excited to put my skills to use and think intentionally about how our guests would move through and feel the day. Our décor approach was to have a thoughtfully designed experience—one where every detail had purpose and guests felt immersed from the moment they arrived. As a Winter wedding, we leaned into the fabric of the season, using velvet in a deliberate way to create warmth, depth, and intimacy throughout the space. Emerald City Designs created our velvet signage for the bar menus, cigar bar, phone booth, and photo booth to highlight different moments throughout the celebration. Our décor was designed to be both functional and interactive, encouraging guests to engage with the space in meaningful ways. Our audio guestbook, provided by After the Tone and housed within a custom phone booth designed by Design by Faith Co., offered guests a thoughtful way to leave messages, and our custom “Ring for a Drink” seating chart, also created by Design by Faith Co., quickly became a guest favorite during cocktail hour. One of our most loved and frequently complimented design elements was the florals. Bloom created a lush, cohesive floral story that was true to our warm neutral palette by weaving together toffee, caramel, and cappuccino roses with soft white and ivory blooms. Glass cylinder vases and layered candlelight added warmth and glow throughout the reception, while tall floral stands created the illusion of floating flowers, bringing in drama without overwhelming the space. On the tables, Paper & Lace Boutique designed velvet table numbers, while Paper Plum Co. created custom velvet menus that added texture in a subtle but impactful way. Velvet linens from BBJ Tavola in Walnut and Caramel, paired with Celeste Ivory accents, added richness and contrast to the tablescape. The Copper Quail also provided the place settings, helping create a cohesive experience, and also provided lush black velvet sofas for cocktail hour seating and a dedicated space for us during the toasts. Our custom dance floor, monogrammed with our initials and created by Southern Event Wraps, tied the entire design together and set the tone for the reception.

the very first bite at our tasting. The vintage-style design featured intricate buttercream piping
and delicate pearl accents that subtly matched the pearls on my wedding dress.
The flavors balanced were a mix of classic and indulgent, including traditional vanilla cake with
vanilla bean Swiss meringue buttercream, pink champagne cake with fresh strawberry Swiss
meringue buttercream, and a tuxedo option of chocolate fudge cake filled with white chocolate
mousse and chocolate ganache.[/field]

Our ceremony was grounded in intention, with our officiants, Larraine and Michael Forrester of A Relationship Ministry, LLC, reading Genesis 2:24. Guests were welcomed with live violin by Jeremy Green, setting an elegant tone that carried through the cocktail hour. Music throughout the day was provided by DJ Toryn of Exquisite Sounds Entertainment—from Leonard’s entrance to “My Song” by Labi Siffre to the processional to “Another You” by Brian McKnight, my walk down the aisle to a piano instrumental of “All My Life,” and our joyful recessional to “As” by Stevie Wonder. For the reception, we leaned into our love of oldies and timeless classics. Our first dance was to “Always & Forever” by Heatwave, followed by a father-daughter dance to “My Girl” by The Temptations and a mother-son dance to “I’ll Be There” by The Jackson 5, with the cake cutting set to “Fly Me to the Moon” by Count Basie and Frank Sinatra.

Honoring my parents was incredibly important to us, as they have been integral to our relationship, and we wanted them to feel deeply celebrated on our wedding day. We used the same bride and groom coupes they toasted with at their own wedding 47 years ago, a detail that felt especially meaningful to share with them in that moment. In that same spirit, both my bouquet and my mother’s were wrapped in fabric from my late grandmother’s shawl—the very one she wore to my parents’ wedding—serving as my “something blue” and a quiet tribute to the women and love that came before us.

and connected to our story. Our cocktail napkins featured copies of handwritten notes we had

For our guest hotels, visitors were greeted with custom key card holders by CarlysCoCreative,
which included a warm welcome message and a thoughtfully designed run-of-show for the
wedding weekend. As the night continued, late-night pizza was served in custom boxes from
Shiny Happy Party, while our cigar bar featured custom cigars from Cigar Villa, adding an
elevated and playful element to the celebration.
As a final keepsake, our wedding favors were editorial black-and-white portraits from the photo
booth by Portrait Noir, giving guests a timeless memento to take home from the night.[/field]

To balance structure with softness, bold statement bars were paired with a whimsical serpentine pizza buffet, resulting in a celebration that felt romantic and chic yet intentionally composed. Every decision was made with the intention to honor both the natural November surroundings and the couple’s refined taste.

We partnered with The Catering Outfit to provide a chic oyster bar at cocktail hour and delicious signature cocktails for guests.

An Organic Blue Hill at Stone Barns Wedding Rooted in Effortless Elegance

We fell in love with Blue Hill at Stone Barns, and the entire vision for the day grew naturally from the venue itself. It offered the perfect balance of elevated hospitality, exceptional food and service, paired with a relaxed, organic feel rooted in the surrounding farmland, greenery, and architecture. With that in mind, we wanted every detail to feel intentional and thoughtfully designed, while remaining effortless and never overdone.

James proposed most perfectly, quietly, intimately, and completely to us. While we were both working from home, he insisted I take our dog, Obie, out for a walk on a freezing day, which I was not thrilled about. When I walked back into our apartment, he was waiting on one knee. Unbeknownst to me, he had asked my boss the night before for me to have the rest of the day off, so we spent the afternoon celebrating with pizza and cocktails. That evening, he surprised me again by gathering all of our closest friends and family at a bar, turning a private moment into a joyful celebration that lasted well into the night.

I wore the Isla gown by Leah Da Gloria, a design that immediately drew me in with its clean lines and understated elegance. I loved the simplicity of the silhouette paired with the subtle pearlescent sheen of the fabric, which felt timeless yet modern. Wanting to add a personal touch, I sourced additional fabric directly from the designer and had it fashioned into a dramatic oversized bow at the back of the gown. The detail added just the right amount of drama while still honoring the refined, minimalist feel I loved about the dress.

I had four bridesmaids and my brother in our wedding party. While my brother wore a tux to coordinate with the groomsmen, I approached the bridesmaids’ looks as an extension of our color story rather than a uniform. Inspired by our palette, each bridesmaid wore a distinct color of chartreuse, butter yellow, soft pink, or magenta. My only direction was the color itself and a preference for solid fabrics, allowing each woman the freedom to choose a silhouette that felt true to her personal style. The result was a collection of satin gowns with clean, effortless lines that felt modern yet timeless. I loved how the individuality of each look came together in a way that felt intentional, cohesive, and beautifully reflective of the women wearing them.

Maeve envisioned playful, fun florals for her wedding, a far cry from the classic bucolic designs seen at many Blue Hill events. She was drawn to abstract designs, mostly highlighting textural flowers, including hydrangea, viburnum, and nerine. She loves the combination of chartreuse and pink, and was not afraid to play with unique, abstract options! We color-blocked her wedding party bouquets to complement the different colored dresses she chose for her bridesmaids. Maeve chose a classic, all-white tulip design for her bouquet – a perfect choice alongside her colorful wedding party. The ceremony and reception flowers followed the same color palette that Maeve loves: chartreuse with a gradient of pinks. We also styled juicy green grapes on the tables, and of course, we used chartreuse taper candles. The flowers were dramatic, graphic, and intentional. One rainy evening in Miami at our favorite South Beach resort, the 1 hotel, he got down on one knee. It was simple, heartfelt, and perfect. I said yes to a lifetime of love, laughter, and family. The evening finished on a sweet, unexpected note with mamey panna cotta, pinole crumble, and pixtle ice cream.

A Lavender-Everything Wedding in Pasadena Inspired by European Garden Romance

I’m a first-generation German-American and have always had a big European influence in my life. I wanted to blend that classic, elegant, almost castle-like feel with artistic designs and whimsical garden beauty. I’m a huge fan of art and art history, particularly the Renaissance era. The Langham Huntington Hotel’s architecture and decor seamlessly lent themselves to this with the sharp lines, large-scale landscapes, and unique, old-world interior. If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with flowers and will often come home with a new bouquet of something almost every day. I wanted to bring that garden-esque element to the venue, and Ioxora Florists absolutely delivered on that. From the flowers on the stairs leading down to the lawn to the ground bouquets along the aisle, it all seamlessly guided the walking experience. A majority of our guests were flying in, and we wanted to make their experience as easy and relaxing as possible. The Langham Hotel made that easy as we had our entire wedding there, including the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and after party. The destination had a place for each of these events that allowed every part to feel different and unique – from the garden-esque ceremony on the green lawn to the magical ballroom, and then even a gentleman’s club-style restaurant for the after party. The reception area was in the Venetian Ballroom at the hotel, which featured these beautiful crystal chandeliers from Vienna, light pink walls with dark blue and gold accents. It truly reminded me of old-world Europe, and I wanted to tie that into my wedding. The florals, soft lighting, and light hints of color on the tables truly brought everything together. One of my favorite parts of the table scape was the plates: two different designs, with one featuring a purple flower and the other featuring pink. These flowers were hand-painted on the plates, and it was a really nice tie-in with my love for flowers, but also my history as an artist. I love drawing and painting, and felt that these plates just spoke to that part of my life. LAVENDER EVERYTHING

Davis and I met freshman year of college and were together for almost eight years before he proposed. Everything about that weekend was magical and just so spot on with how I pictured such a special day happening – including being utterly surprised. Davis had three of my best friends plan a girls’ wine tasting trip to Temecula. I had to unexpectedly work that morning during the drive down to wine country, so the girls said I had to be the designated driver once we actually started drinking, which essentially was their way of ensuring I would be sober enough to say yes. We went to three wineries that day, but I almost found out about the proposal because my soon-to-be maid of honor bought “Mr and Mrs champagne glasses at one of the venues for the proposal, but she was a quick thinker and said it was for her brother, who also happened to be engaged at the time. After we left the last winery, my friend who lived in the area said she knew a shortcut to our Airbnb, but that we had to make a pit stop at her friend’s house first to pick something up. It truly could have been a shortcut because it was a dirt road that was littered with potholes! Eventually, though, we pulled up to this beautiful house around sunset, and everyone got out of the car. I followed one of my friends through the front door and looked out through these floor to ceilings windows to a beautiful backyard, and I saw Davis standing on an elevated sitting area just beaming. I was utterly speechless and immediately started crying as I walked to the backyard. He had made an aisle of flowers, candles, and photos of us throughout our time dating, and it was so sweet to see how our relationship grew to this magical moment. Davis also hired a photographer to capture the moment, and some of his best friends were there to record the full thing on video. I was just so overwhelmed with joy and happiness of being surrounded by so many of our friends, and I just felt so loved. After the proposal, we as a group went out to dinner and then continued with really fun wine tasting adventures throughout Temecula for the rest of the weekend. And then when we got home, both of our families surprised us with a celebratory brunch! One of the funniest parts of this story, though, is that Davis, my maid of honor, and I were at my parents’ place for Taco Tuesday the week he proposed, and we were talking about the girls’ trip. Davis had walked the dogs to my grandma’s house to tell her he was proposing, and during this, I brought up how I just had a feeling that Davis was going to show up in Temecula for some reason. My dad, who is often not super serious, looked me dead in the eye and said: “I’m sorry to tell you this, but he hasn’t asked me yet.” I was devastated and cried the rest of the night because I was so convinced, and my dad totally threw me off without anyone asking him to. I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

My dress: This was my something new. A fun fact about me is that I was a debutante in high school, and I already had my big, poofy, princess dress moment. I wanted something classic, unique, a bit sexy, and utterly me for my wedding, something a bit more mature and grown up. The Monique Lhuillier dress I wore was a strapless, body-hugging silhouette that had a very delicate, beautiful floral lace design that I just lit up every time I put it on. My favorite part of the dress was also the jacket that came with it. I always imagined my wedding dress having long sleeves, but I wasn’t sure it would be possible because our wedding was on June 1st in Pasadena, CA. The floral lace design and keyhole opening in the back made it really easy to stay cool while still having that long sleeve, high neck look I wanted. Another great part was that I could take the jacket off and have almost an entirely new look for the reception, which is exactly what I did! Garter – I know this isn’t technically fashion, but the garter held sentimental value for Davis’ family. My SILs, my MIL, and even my MIL’s mother wore it during their weddings. Jewelry Something old/blue – The pearl, sapphire, silver ring, and matching bracelet were gifts from my dad’s dad to my mom. I’ve always loved the delegate, antique look ad told my mom years ago that I wanted to wear these on my wedding day. Something borrowed – I had a high-neck jacket for the ceremony and then took it off to reveal a strapless sweetheart neckline, so I needed simple jewelry that also made a statement. My grandmother gave me her diamond earrings to borrow, which took me forever to put on because they were the screw backs, and a close family friend, who is also a jeweler and doesn’t have any daughters, lent me a diamond tennis necklace. They were beautiful pieces I felt honored wearing. Shoes – It was a big priority to balance comfort and fashion, and I pretty much live and breathe by Dolce Vita heels. The shoes were elegant, and the block heel made it easy to walk down the stairs and along the green lawn. Of course, though, we gals can last in heels for only so long, so I, of course, switched into my “Mrs. Ender – Just Married” converse just in time for the dancing!

Flower girl/ringer bearer outfits: The European theme continues! I ordered the flower girl and ring bearer outfits from an Etsy shop based in Germany. I liked how the outfits had an old school German look, and the lavender ribbon on the dress had a beautiful, big bow on the back – it was adorable. My squad’s dresses: There are so many things about weddings that your squad doesn’t get a say in, but I wanted them to have a choice in something. I chose the light lavender color (I prefer the lighter, closer to white look versus the deeper, more vibrant tones) and told my girls to choose their own styles.

The Tux: I’ve always liked Davis in navy blue, and when we went to Men’s Warehouse, we found the perfect tux. It wasn’t until I was showing his mom photos of him trying it on that we realized it was the same tux style he wore for his brothers’ weddings. He looked fantastic (and very hot IMO).

Stationery: Stationery is and has always been very important to me. I used to design my own stationery when I was younger, and I believe that the invitations ultimately set the vibe and expectation for guests. Paper by The Bay truly brought my vision to life with elegant script, gold foil, textured paper, and even more artistic elements, like having a sketch of The Langham on the invite and a gold wax stamp with an E embossed on it to close the envelope. I remember seeing the first drafts of the invites and day of paper and was just like, yes, nailed it! And I got SO many compliments from guests and was told it was one of the most beautiful things they’ve seen.

Wedding cake: So many elements of our wedding were rooted in my European heritage, and the cake was no different. One of the layers of the cake was filled with German Chocolate!

Mother-son first look: Davis is the youngest of three boys and has a very close relationship with his mom. Both of his brothers are already married, so I wanted to do something truly special and thought of the idea of doing a mother-son first look. Give them a moment to have just for themselves, close, and start a new chapter, before the day becomes just about Davis and me. Father-brothers-bride first look: I’m the oldest of three and the only girl. I could not imagine leaving my brothers out of this once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I included them in the first look – we all cried, and it was so special. Bride-Bridesmaids first look: My dress was top secret! Only my mom, my grandma, and my MIL knew what it looked like because I wanted that wow factor. My bride squad delivered, and it was really fun to see their real-time reactions to my dress.

Family close to heart: The empty chair and remembrance tables were never truly for me, but I wanted to acknowledge family members who were no longer with us, who had significant impacts on Davis and my lives. I had framed portraits of my paternal grandfather and my Dad’s favorite cousin linked to my bouquet. He died when I was 8, and I was the only grandchild he really knew, with my brothers being three and two. I never knew my dad’s cousin as she passed away young, but I was named after her – Isabelle Sonja – and that was something I truly cherished. Davis, he recently lost his maternal grandfather, and he was extremely close with him and was also named after him – Davis George. His passing was really hard on the family, and I wanted Davis to know that he was always with him, even on this special day. I ordered a tie sticker for him to put on the back of his tie.

Flower girl and ring bearer: Our flower girl and ring bearer were both 1.5 years old, so we weren’t expecting them to actually walk down the aisle (if anything, we thought their moms would have to carry them). But we put my MIL at the edge of the aisle because my niece (the flower girl) is obsessed with her, and then the ring bearer’s father brought his favorite toy (a blue golf club) to try to entice him, and it actually worked! They went running down the aisle, and it was really cute to see, and honestly helped settle my nerves before I walked down myself.

An Italian-Inspired Wedding at Crane Cottage with a Splash of Color!

The vision for our wedding was inspired by all the memories we have made together in Italy— romantic, elegant, and effortlessly beautiful. We fell in love with Crane Cottage because it reminded us of an Italian villa, and we had a lot of odes to Italy throughout the weekend – millefoglie wedding cake, gelato, Italian chocolates, the bride’s aperol spritz signature drink. The venue speaks for itself, so the goal was to enhance it with playful color, thoughtful details, and a black-tie atmosphere that still felt warm and personal. It was very important that the day felt intimate and reflective of who we are, with meaningful touches woven throughout so their guests truly felt connected to us and our story. We wanted our wedding to be undeniably us. But we also wanted to honor the South and southern tradition to bring it all together. It meant a lot to me to have my in-laws and all of Robbie’s family (from Boston and the Northeast) experience the South. We planned our rehearsal dinner around that idea with shrimp and grits, fried chicken, bourbon peaches with almond cake, and the orange peels that flowed into the wedding day. It also lined up perfectly with the Shrimp and Grits festival that weekend on the island.

If you had asked me what my perfect proposal would be from start to finish, it would have been exactly what Robbie ended up pulling off. My parents were in New York visiting us, and we had planned a family picnic in Central Park. We ended up finding a shady spot under a large tree close to Belvedere Castle, and Robbie asked if I wanted to go on a walk. As we were heading towards the castle, I kept on walking (thinking Robbie was behind me), and I turned around to see him down on one knee. He planned a beautiful picnic for just the two of us and had a photographer capture the moments. We went back to celebrate with my family, as Robbie’s family came to surprise us. We spent the afternoon sipping champagne and aperol and just enjoying a perfect day in the park. Little did I know the surprises and celebrations did not stop there. Later, he had rented out a room in a beautiful restaurant on the water in Seaport. All of my friends and his family and friends were there to surprise me! It meant so much to me that all of our loved ones came to celebrate us, and it was just the perfect day.

I wanted to feel confident and feel like myself on my wedding day, and that is exactly how I felt when I put this dress on. I felt like the most confident, elevated version of myself. My dress was classic and timeless, and exactly what I envisioned myself in. I paired it with a blusher veil, which was what my mom wore on her wedding day as well. That was a really special touch. The dress designer is Savannah Miller, and the silhouette is Zara.

This allowed each of my girls to choose something that felt comfortable and personal while still feeling cohesive. Robbie wore a classic black tuxedo for the ceremony and switched into a white dinner jacket for the reception, adding a refined yet celebratory transition for the evening. A sweet, sentimental touch to the groom’s attire was that he wore Rachel’s brother’s velvet bowtie, which her brother also wore on his own wedding day. The groomsmen were all dressed in black tuxedos, keeping the overall look polished and formal. The timeless black-tie attire balanced beautifully with the playful colors woven into the design.

Cocktail hour was inspired by Italian aperitivo culture, with an orange-themed palette setting the tone. Signature drinks included an Aperol spritz with an orange slice, a Negroni with an orange peel, and a peach-flavored Tito’s cocktail named after the couple’s dog, Tito. The reception continued with elevated dining, late-night bites, and an abundance of thoughtful touches designed to keep guests celebrating all night long.

Florals were vibrant and expressive, featuring shades of pink, purple, yellow, orange, and white, with a touch of blue. Shea Hopely brought my floral vision to life. The cocktail hour featured orange and white linens, while the reception transitioned to blue and white linens paired with colorful floral arrangements and mismatched candles in complementary tones. One of our favorite design moments was the “orange grove” escort display, where seating assignments were written on dried orange peels and hung from orange trees.

My brother and sister-in-law had a millefoglie cake at their wedding in Italy, and it was such a highlight. We wanted to have a nod to them on our special day (and we, of course, think it is delicious as well!) We thought it would be a fun touch to finish it ourselves, so we dusted the powdered sugar before cutting.

The ceremony took place in the Sunken Garden and was accompanied by live string music, creating a romantic and joyful atmosphere. It was important for us to have traditional readings for our ceremony, and we had our cousin and very special friend read those. My dad surprised us with an Italian singer, Franco Corso, who not only sang during cocktail hour, but sang Ave Maria and Our Father during the ceremony, which was very special to our families and us.

As a nod to my(Rachel) parents’ wedding, we incorporated a champagne tower into the celebration. This moment honored our family history while creating a fun and interactive experience for guests. It was a beautiful blend of sentimentality and celebration. Our dog Tito also made an appearance throughout the weekend, showing up on cocktail napkins, a signature drink, drink stirrers, and on top of our rehearsal dinner cake.

Another special detail was the almond wedding favors we left at everyone’s place setting, “bonboniera.” It is an Italian tradition that I(the bride) saw at all of my family weddings growing up, and knew it was a detail I didn’t want to pass on. A bag of five sugared almonds – their hardness represents the endurance. The sweetness- the couple’s married life ahead. And an odd number because it cannot be divided by two, just as the couple is now one. Five are our wishes for the newlyweds – health, wealth, happiness, family, and a long life! We also gave small orange wedding favors to round out the night. We thought it was such a cute play on the typical limoncello, while carrying the orange theme all the way through the day.

[field title=”Special Detail #3″]Every guest received a handwritten note from us, placed thoughtfully at their seat. Writing these notes was incredibly important, as it allowed us to personally thank each person for being part of our lives and traveling so far to celebrate us on our wedding day.

To honor our family legacy, we displayed wedding photos of our parents and grandparents. This was one of the most meaningful details of the day, allowing us to reflect on the marriages that came before us and the love that shaped our lives. [/field]
