From The Bride…James & I knew that we wanted a wedding that reflected our love for each other, our families, and our friends. We wanted our day to showcase our passions for our faith, our community, our relationship, our style, and our loves for great food, delicious drinks, awesome music, and gorgeous florals. We knew that we wanted to host a celebration not only of ourselves and of our marriage but also of the people who supported us along the way, both individually and as a couple.

We decided that we wanted to get married and have our reception outdoors and options in Dallas, where we live, felt limited. We ventured to Austin on the recommendation of our close friend & super talented photographer, Heather Hawkins, who was booked to shoot a wedding at Le San Michele, a venue located in Buda. We fell in love with the way Le San Michele combined a sense of sprawling European-style gardens with Texas foliage, where beautiful plants like succulents and bluebonnets and cacti were growing freely around the property. We loved that the venue owners had outfitted the space with plenty of amazing lighting and beautiful decor, and we appreciated that we could bring in any vendors of our choosing to help us on our special day.

Through yet another connection, we were introduced to The Nouveau Romantics. We cannot say enough good things about working with Liz and Hannah – they made our dreams become a reality. They helped us craft the ceremony and reception that we wanted, and we loved that they are a one-stop shop, a place where we could work together on everything paper, floral, and event-related, creating a really streamlined effect for our wedding as a whole. From succulent-filled bouquets and margaritas during cocktail hour to farm-style tables and family-style food service, Liz and Hannah helped us make selections that felt innately us, choices that reflected our relationship and the party we wanted to host for the people we love most in the world.

Liz and Hannah created a secret Pinterest board to allow us to post pieces of inspiration throughout the planning process. That was really helpful for me; as a visual learner who wanted to be extremely hands-on throughout this detail-oriented process, I really craved a place where I could see our vision come to life. Florals were important to me, and I was blown away with what Liz and her team came up with – our bouquets, filled with succulents and ranunculus and garden roses, detailed with trailing ribbon, were mind-blowingly gorgeous. Alongside my bridal bouquet (which I wish I could carry around with me every day!), my favorite pieces were the flower collar they made for our English mastiff, Callie, and the flower crown I wore during the reception.

The food and beverages were important to us, too, since James & I not only love to eat but we also love to host dinner parties and gatherings centered around a good meal and great conversation. We chose Royal Fig to do our catering, noticing them as a recommended caterer on the list of every single venue we visited in Austin, including Le San Michele. We loved that their menus change seasonally and that they source ingredients locally as much as possible. We also loved that they make their own homemade margarita mix, which is completely delicious. After the wedding, guests raved to us about the food – it was that tasty and memorable. Our favorite dishes were the green chile macaroni and cheese, the Shiner-braised beef crostinis, and the orecchiete pasta with asparagus and peas. Both our bride’s and groom’s cake were the same flavor – appropriately named the James Brown (maybe not after my husband, perhaps…) – provided by the super delicious Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop. We wanted our dessert table to primarily comprised of pies, a mutually favorite dessert of ours, and we were so glad that we went with Cutie Pies for these treats. We loved the blueberry and peach pies but the award-winning heath toffee pecan pie was a show-stopper.

The DJ from Look No Further provided the musical backdrop for an epic dance party, one that will live on in infamy in our memories. The DJ was super accommodating when James and his groomsmen asked to play a special, secret serenade at the reception, a musical treat that knocked my socks off. The video footage from the dance party documents just how awesome the music was!

All in all, our wedding day was everything we ever hoped for and so much more. We are so grateful and blessed, and we keep looking through Heather’s gorgeous photos and Patrick’s incredible video so we can relive that day over and over again!

Bridesmaid Dress Shopping with Saffron Avenue

Angela from Saffron Avenue here, and today I’m sharing my experience dress shopping with my bridesmaids! You might have noticed from my last post I’m a huge fan of mix and match styles. I knew I wanted soft neutrals and long dresses, but was a little nervous it might be hard to translate my vision. But with a little luck – and mimosas a’plenty – each girl found a gorgeous gown to love.

Since all of my bridesmaids are married and have been through the entire bridesmaid dress shopping experience, I wanted to try something new and fun for them. That is when I discovered Brideside, which allows you to pick out dresses, have them shipped to you, and then try them on in the comfort of your own home. Since all my maids live in different cities I thought it would be neat to host a girls weekend where we can get together, sip some wine, reminisce, and of course try on gorgeous dresses at my apartment.

We started our morning off with a delicious breakfast bar and sipped on some mimosas. After breakfast, each of the girls picked out a few of their favorite dresses to try on first. We mixed and matched the styles as well as the colors and by the time we were done each girl found one they absolutely loved! We then picked out the final colors and sizes and let our stylist know we were ready to order the dresses. It was so awesome to see all the girls dresses, colors and styles come together and totally got me even more pumped for May 1st!

The entire experience was so much fun, it was like Carrie Bradshaw trying on her many outfits in her closet among her best friends. I wouldn’t trade it for anything and so happy each of my girls found a dress!

Until next time! xoxo, Angela

Fashionable Elopement in Tuscany

If I had the chance to wedding plan all over again, this Italian elopement is exactly what I’d do. Set in the most charming town hall, with their parents to bear witness, it’s exactly what intimate, wildly romantic nuptials are all about. SposiamoVi planned every moment and Lisa Poggi and Matteo Castelluccia captured to perfection. More photos (and that high-low McQueen gown!) waiting here.

From The Bride…I don’t always go for the “bigger is better” theory. That’s why, when Simon and I got engaged, we agreed to keep things intimate and romantic. What better way to honor that agreement than to escape to the Tuscan hills of Italy and elope! I did some online research and found SposiamoVi, premier Italian wedding planners, and got in touch with them straight away. They got back to me immediately, and we started planning…

From SposiamoViHailing from Australia, Catherine and Simon wanted to plan their elopement during their trip to Italy in early September, 2013, with their parents as witnesses. A wildly romantic plan, and one that left us all starry-eyed. We got straight to work. Through Skype, email, and Pintrest we were able to share inspirational wedding photos and ideas with Catherine.

After a careful search we were able to secure the age-old town hall in Radda, Chianti and the beautiful fourteenth century Villa Vignamaggio. Radda is a medieval village that is set snugly into the Chianti hills and encircled by forests, olive groves, and vineyards.

Villa Vignamaggio is a venue that sits upon a hill top and overlooks the surrounding vineyards and wineries. SposiamoVi has a long standing relationship with the Villa, and it was the perfect location for the accommodations and reception of this quiet gathering.

At last, the wedding day had come! Catherine – assisted by her mother, hair and makeup artist, and her personal SposiamoVi wedding planner – could finally don her fabulous high-low Alexander McQueen gown and silver Miu Miu t-strap platform open toe sandals, complete with sparkling cut glass heels.

Simon looked very handsome in his stylish light blue suit and polka-dot bowtie. And, as he waited anxiously for his bride, her bouquet of fresh flowers and greenery from La Rosa Canina in hand, his mother attached his boutonniere to the lapel of his suit.

As soon as she was ready, Catherine met Simon, her parents and his parents in the Villa’s elegant main reception room. After a few more pre-wedding photographs from renowned photographer Lisa Poggi and some additional video footage from respected wedding videographer Matteo Castelluccia, Simon’s and Catheirne’s parents got into a luxury taxi and made their way into Radda. Shortly thereafter, Catherine’s father escorted the bride into a vintage Fiat convertible and drove them to the town hall.

Arriving at their destination, Catherine was met by curious and appreciative on-lookers. Simon went on into the town hall’s loggia to meet up with his parents, while Catherine and her parents lingered just a bit before walking into the loggia to a waiting Simon. Their civil ceremony was peppered with much laughter and even a few tears. After they were pronounced “man and wife”, Catherine and Simon’s parents showered them with rose petals upon the town hall’s ancient stone stairs. The six of them then strolled in the warm Tuscan sunshine to a nearby terrace for champagne and hors d’oeuvres, sitting under a sun umbrella and overlooking the sparkling blue-green Mediterranean sea.

Back at Villa Vignamaggio, the SposiamoVi team was hard at work, transforming one of the Villa’s wine cellar into a cozy, culinary haven. Making sure that the dining table was set for dinner with antique lace tablecloth, fine dinnerware, tall candelabra, fresh flowers from La Rosa Canina, and small candles scattered artfully about the table setting. Soft accent lighting from the venerable chandelier above the dining table completed the romantic, intimate ambience.

Before coming to dinner, the bride changed into yet another wonderful Alexander McQueen creation. This one playful with a plunging back, lace accents, and short organza ruffles. Catherine, Simon and their parents enjoyed a delicious Tuscan meal together; each course topped off with a different wine, selected from the Villa’s own vineyard. After dinner the newlyweds cut their cake, and then enjoyed a private dance among the French oak wine casks in the Villa’s aged wine cellar; the photographer and videographer capturing each move, each loving moment.

This was truly an experience that Catherine, Simon, and their parents will look back on for years to come with broad smiles on their faces. A fabulous location, an intimate setting, a charming couple, and loads of love!
