You can't go wrong incorporating an era of luxury, glamour, and most importantly, progress, into your big day. Which is why we're so taken with this Philly couple's amazing Art Deco wedding. Hotel Monaco provided a perfect backdrop for the modern affair with era-appropriate accents like gold sunbursts (and that dress!) laced throughout. Photographer Jennifer Sosa was there to capture the stunning event.
From the Bride... When Matt and I first went to see the Hotel Monaco, it was still a construction site. We squeezed past ladders and tried to visualize how the ballroom would look when it was painted, but we knew – this modern, quirky space was where we would get married. And this was before we saw the showstopper rooftop bar to be used for cocktail hour! The deco-influenced space was our jumping off point for our vision for the wedding and our vendors brought it to life better than we could ever have imagined. We tried to incorporate the deco theme in a subtle, contemporary way: sunburst patterns on our wedding cake, a letter-pressed deco design on our invitations, and the beautiful beadwork on the Jenny Packham dress I fell in love with. Our ceremony was interfaith, so we mixed and matched traditions in a way that felt right for us – we used my mother’s wedding veil as the fabric for our chuppah, we did a unity candle ceremony, our cousins shared readings, (including an excerpt from “Plato’s Symposium” that Matt had originally shared with me in a 1st anniversary card years before), and we were married by the judge that he worked for. Since we would be moving back to NYC days after our wedding, the night was also our farewell to Philadelphia. We loved the map of the city that our invitation designers used in our invitation suite so much, that we had it blown up and used it as a guestbook. We even sent our guests off at the end of the night with some special Philly treats – water ice and mini soft pretzels! It was an amazing feeling to see all the planning and little moments come together, but in the end, the best part was having all our beautiful friends and family come together to celebrate our new start as husband and wife.
