From Bash, Please… Both born and raised in the south- her, Alabama; him- Georgia, Beth Murray and Ben Bricken met their freshman year attending the University of Georgia. They remained close friends throughout their four years of college. Upon graduation, Beth moved up the east coast, working on Capitol Hill and then moving on to New York City as a producer for NBC’s TODAY Show. An avid surfer, Ben went (much farther) west- working for Discovery Land Company’s Kuki’o development in Hawaii. He continued to pursue real estate- and chasing surf- ending up in Santa Monica at Douglas Emmett real estate firm. The two kept up through the years and reconnected in Los Angeles, while Beth was on a business trip for TODAY. “We went out for a drink to catch up on life since college and it was like a light switch turned on,” recalls Murray. “We ended up talking on the beach in front of his house until morning and the rest is history.” “We both just knew.” The two got engaged a few short months later- Ben proposed in Rosemary Beach, Florida while they were spending a weekend in the South with his family.
From the Bride… Our hopes for our wedding day was that it would be laid back, meaningful, and fun for our guests. We wanted them to feel the love that we share for each other- and for them too! Having an intimate destination wedding in Los Angeles allowed our friends and family to spend quality time with each other, and also get a glimpse into the place we now call home. The highlight of the day for us was the ceremony- we wanted to make sure not to rush through it- which included custom written vows for us by Ben’s dad, Rev. Reese Bricken. Another surprise for us during the ceremony was an original poem written for us by close friend and author Donald Miller, titled “Generation One.” We wanted the ceremony to reflect our commitment each other, our family and the meaning of marriage- and it really set the tone and the spirit of the entire day. The whole night was straight up magic.
The first piece of advice I got on wedding planning came from my sister-in-law- hire a coordinator! I knew that between moving from New York City to LA and planning a detailed destination wedding in 6 months, that I would need extra help. Paige and Kelly were the perfect fit. The magical, laid back, meaningful celebration we envisioned? Better than we could have ever imagined. P&K made the planning fun- not stressful- and their attention to detail made me feel completely at ease throughout the process. Their fresh eye for beauty and creativity really made the mix of both the traditional and modern aspects we wanted for the wedding flow together beautifully. They kept us laughing and feeling loved throughout the process. From custom paper goods, awesome gift bags, to putting my deodorant on me pre-ceremony (thanks, Paige!), we can’t imagine planning what we did with anyone else.
Max’s photography is a step beyond. His artistic eye is what captivated us from the beginning. I knew the photographer would be with me throughout the day from start to finish, and wanted someone laid back and fun. Max was a perfect fit. Apart from his extraordinary work, his easy demeanor is exactly what any bride would want with them throughout their day.
