A perfectly weathered villa like Castello di Bibbione is gorgeous on its own but add a layer of modern and it’s a whole new level of beauty. The contrast of ghost chairs and pink chevron against those Tuscan hills will pull you right in, I promise. Designed by Regency San Marino and photographed by Jessica Burke, this is the second installment of Italian festivities with even more in the full gallery. And if you missed it, have a peek at the rehearsal dinner that started this wedding weekend off.
From the bride:… Though we currently live in New York, when my husband and I got engaged, we initially envisioned a traditional wedding in our hometown of San Francisco. We both have large extended families so we imagined a big party with all of our friends and loved ones. A few months into planning our SF wedding, we started to feel that it didn’t capture who we were as a couple. During the years we dated, our favorite thing to do together was travel around Europe. Keeping this in mind, we realized that a destination wedding was more fitting and would have more meaning to us as a couple. We toyed with the idea of an elopement in Paris (my favorite city, of course!) but decided upon a small wedding in a castle in Tuscany with our closest friends and family. The combination of a castle, Tuscany and lots of wine sounded like such a perfect, romantic idea!
Planning a destination wedding in Tuscany, Italy all the way from New York was difficult for a control freak like me, but I knew the language barrier would be a challenge, so the first thing I did was hire a wedding planner. It was not easy for me to let go and allow her to make decisions on my behalf. I really had to trust her recommendations and vendor selections since I had to choose everything based on pictures or descriptions.
For those of you planning a destination wedding, my advice would be to accept that you ultimately can’t control everything or be part of the entire process since you won’t be able to see everything in person or make selections in person. It’s important that you shop around with different wedding planners before you commit to one because you really have to put your faith in that one individual. It helps to be very specific about what you want and share plenty of pictures and inspiration boards. I also recommend that you pick someone with a similar aesthetic as you… if it can’t be you… it might as well be the closest thing!
Our wedding turned out to be more than I could have dreamed of. We stayed at a gorgeous private villa with our guests for a week and ended the trip with our wedding in a castle overlooking the Tuscan countryside. The ceremony took place in a quaint chapel located on the grounds of the castle and was followed by a cocktail reception and dinner inside the beautiful castle walls. It felt like a scene out of a movie. My own personal romantic comedy… where, in the end, I got the guy of my dreams.
