The Great Gatsby. I wonder if F. Scott Fitzgerald would have ever thought that it would be the basis for party after party after party. Setting trends over and over  again. Although if anything I’ve read about Fitzgerald and Zelda are true? I’m assuming they are sort of loving this born again obsession. So when we spotted this fun, spunky, not taking itself too seriously Great Gatsby party – designed by Events In The City  with photographs by Katie Stoops - well, we knew that Fitzy, Z-dog and well, all of you would love it as much as we did. From Laura of Events in the City…As the owner of Events In The City, I knew my 30th birthday had to be a great event! I enlisted the talents of many of my dear friends that helped bring this vision to life.

A party to “Say Goodbye to my 20s” was thought up by my fabulous business partner Megan Pollard. I knew right away the best place to have it would be at The Wine Kitchen, a local restaurant that is around the corner from our studio in downtown historic Leesburg, VA. They were so accommodating to our ideas and allowed us to get very creative with their space. We had thirty eight guests in attendance and hosted a welcome reception and then a seated dinner for everyone. Each guest was greeted with our Prohibition Punch in mason jars wrapped in paper bags, in case the police showed up to our Speak Easy of course! Guests also could choose from local wines and beers as they enjoyed different passed hors d’ouevures all made with local produce. Lots of guests noticed our incredible sign designed by Southern Sprout all done by hand in chalk as they entered. Her work is amazing!

We asked guests to find their seats at different tables around the room. Guests’ placesettings were accented with a vintage chandelier crystal hanging off of their placecard from The Lucketts Store and a screen printed napkin menu card describing their choices for their dinner designed and printed by Southern Sprout. This was a huge hit! Each table had different centerpieces with flowers from Holly Chapple flowers and décor sourced from different antique stores in Virginia and even some great finds at Home Goods and Target that Laura spent weeks finding.

At the end of dinner we toasted in classic champagne coupes with mini hand made gold sparkler swizzle sticks. Laura’s husband, Stuart Ritchie, made a fabulous toast and then the final event of the night included singing Happy Birthday with a sparkler “3-0″ on top of the art deco cake made by Fluffy Thoughts.

The best part of the night was the fact that everyone truly enjoyed dressing up and got into character. We had various takes on the Speak Easy theme and it was so fun to see everyone dressed up. Being with friends and family on such a tremendous milestone was incredible!
