There is nothing more beautiful than a bride on her wedding day. She’s all glowy and in love, rosy cheeks and a smile for days. And there is just a special magic about her. It takes a talented individual to capture every ounce of that magic, and we’ve filled our Little Black Book with all of those talented photographers. Jonathan Young Weddings, along with his wife Elisabeth Millay Photography, captured all the magic from this stunning day and I can’t get enough. I just can’t get enough.
And of course, we love the film from Weddings on Film!
From the bride … When John and I got engaged, we really didn’t want to wait long to get married. Nine months after we started dating, he proposed, so taking things slow wasn’t exactly our thing. Since I was young, I always assumed I would get married in my hometown back in Missouri, but since I was a New York transplant marrying a Pennsylvania raised guy, we decided to pick a place that was meaningful to both of us. And that’s how we landed in California…
I grew up going to Palm Springs often with my family, and my parent’s actually live there part time. John had also spent time in Palm Springs, both before we met and with my family when we were dating. John and I flew out to Palm Springs soon after getting engaged and looked at a bunch of different venues before ultimately deciding on La Quinta Resort and Club – a few minutes from my parents house and the place I grew up celebrating holidays with my family.
The resort is stunning and overflowing with Spanish charm. Since the majority of our guests would be traveling from Missouri and New York (and everywhere in between), it was important to us to pick a venue that would feel like a vacation for our friends and family. We were able to have the rehearsal dinner, wedding reception and farewell brunch all in different areas at the resort. Our wedding ceremony was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, just a short shuttle ride away.
There were certainly a few tricks to planning a wedding from the opposite coast, but I was really lucky to have wonderful people that took great care of me and a mom that loved (and was amazing at) helping with everything. We wanted our wedding to be elegant and, most of all, fun. I told our florist white was our flower color of choice and let her run with it. She was incredible and made our day even more beautiful than I could have imagined. We were also blessed to have found a photographer (from SMP) who took our engagement pictures in the city then came out to Palm Springs to shoot our wedding with his lovely wife Elisabeth Millay. They are an amazing team and captured every bit of the magic of our day.
I still pinch myself thinking about our wedding. From the flowers to the band, the ceremony to the cocktails, the day felt like it should last forever but went by in a blink. Walking down the aisle, I felt like the luckiest girl in the world and continue to feel even luckier every day.
