From the Bride... As a diehard organiser I was so excited to plan our Margaret River wedding. The planning and the day ran super smoothly and for this I think I should give props to my 15 tab planning spreadsheet and some seriously wonderful vendors and suppliers.
We wanted a Margaret River winery reception, so picking a winery was our first item on the checklist. Upon arriving a Xanadu Winery for an initial consultation, the husband pulled me aside in the car park and said “this is only the first place we are visiting; we are not making any decisions today”. Famous last words. After the one walk through of Xanadu’s restaurant, I was sold. The room is spectacular, with high wooden ceilings, a large rock fireplace and a really open feeling. It really didn’t need to be dressed up much, so that is exactly what we did. Navy & White Damask Table runners, large glass candelabras and wine cork place cards & table numbers stands that I sourced from ETSY to go with the winery location. That was the extent of our room decoration and it looked simple and stunning.
A few things that I don’t want to miss out on mentioning... The photo location – We went to the heart of the Boranup Forest to take photos within the huge Karri trees. The result was spectacular. I have had multiple people say to me how our photos bring to life the exact atmosphere of the day - thanks to super-talented Cristina from Big Love Photography! The cake - A masterpiece of white tempered chocolate shards covering a delicious sticky date cake. It was a big hit and had a few people hunting the room to see if they could sneak themselves a second piece. It perfectly described it’s makers namesake, Edible Art. The transport – Tilly the Vintage Bus from Rolling in Character was a spontaneous decision that we didn't plan (we were just going to go with a couple of friends Prado’s so we could fit us all in two cars), but when we saw this gorgeous bus we just had to have it! The bouquets – It was the only item that didn’t go how I planned it, as with flowers you can’t be guaranteed that the suppliers will have what you want, when you need it. I originally wanted peonies with lilac scattered through them but both the lilac and peonies were unavailable due to the weather. What resulted was even better! Lucky for me, Wood & Belle took one look at my dress and had like four other recommendations. In the end the Phalaenopsis Orchids suited my dress and the day to perfection. Lastly, the dress – It was like nothing I imagined I would wear. But after trying dresses on all day, the moment I stepped into this one my mum cried. That was it... decision made. I am so glad that I went with my instinct, rather than the dress style that I had planned in my head.
I wish I could plan it all over again...just not pay for it!
