When you meet the love of your life at the age of 13, begin dating at the age of 17 and become engaged at the age of 20, a long engagement just won’t do. Not at all. Which is why these two childhood sweethearts decided to tie the knot only three months after their proposal, in a gorgeous February affair held in the bride’s parent’s backyard. Yep… three months. And with the help of talented family and friends, Eternalhope Creations and a whole lot of DIY, they were able to pull off one of the most gorgeous days you’ll ever have the pleasure to lay your eyes upon. From the Bride… Travis and I had known each other our whole lives, and I’d been in love with him since I was 13. It took him four years to realize how I felt, and we started dating at 17. A few years, and one romantic sunset beach proposal later, we were engaged. I’d been dreaming about my wedding since I was about 5, but organizing one in three months was never part of the plan! As soon as we got engaged, Travis and I realized all we wanted was to be married — right away. So, after getting engaged in November, we began planning our wedding for February. People called us crazy, and at many times during those months I agreed with them, but making the engagement shorter meant that Travis and I were married even sooner, which was the best decision we ever made!
Our aim was to create an intimate, personal wedding that had as much of “us” in it as possible — chic elegance mixed with vintage country. To assist with this, we held the ceremony at Travis’ parents farm in southeast Melbourne, and the reception in my parents gardens. We wanted to be able to include all our family and friends, so we held a morning tea after the ceremony (with 300 guests) and then had a smaller group back to the reception (around 80 friends and family) for lunch. We were very blessed to have creative, talented friends who helped make our wedding special, and by including them in the day, we not only have beautiful memories, but also keep our costs down. This was a great help considering our tight budget of $10,000. A friend helped capture our day by being our photographer, another filmed the day for us, and still another, who is a chef, offered to do the catering for us. Family also played a big part in our day. Travis’ mother made our beautiful cake, and our bridal party was made up of our brothers and sisters. The gardens at our respective homes looked amazing, purely due to the effort of our mums who worked tirelessly in the lead-up to create beautiful, welcoming venues. I handmade the stationery with the help of my aunty and tried to add detail to things like the vases and table decorations. Bunting, lace, hessian and twine were all essential. I have a passion for flowers and love the way they can create an atmosphere of celebration. So for me, an abundance of flowers was very important, hence the multitude of blooms at both the ceremony and reception.
The day itself was a hot, 40 degree summer day in the Australian heat. However, guests were treated to little handheld fans to keep cool, and hay bales were placed under large market umbrellas as seats to keep people out of the sun. Overall, our wedding was a fun celebration that marked the beginning of our life together. I married my best friend.
