When I read that the Bride and Groom are both scholars in English literature and share a love for Shakespeare and the classics, my expectations were pretty high for a romantic wedding in its truest sense. And boy I’ll tell ya, my expectations were far exceeded the moment I saw the guests accessorized in hats and fascinators, per the request of the Bride and Groom on their invitations by the lovely anista designs. There is so much more beautiful estate goodness from Adrian Photography all in the gallery right here.
From the Bride… James and I had a definite vision for our wedding day: elegant, vintage, and romantic! We wanted the day to reflect our interests and our personalities. I love everything vintage, and both of us are English literature majors. We both love Shakespeare and all the classic novels. James loves his loose leaf teas, and I love my coffee. We both enjoy small, intimate get-togethers with close friends more than large group parties. So once we found the perfect venue, our vision for the day came together beautifully.
Our group of 80 guests was a perfect number to enjoy the scale and beauty of the manor and create the warm and loving tone that everyone felt. To make it extra-special, James and I searched for the perfect gift for each other to open as we prepared before the ceremony. James is a trail runner and loves nature, and I found the perfect vintage compass for him as a personal keepsake. We both have Scottish, Irish and Celtic heritage, and we were so excited when we found authentic vintage sixpence coins made into cufflinks from the UK as unique gifts for the groom and groomsmen. James surprised me with a rare and elegant vintage silver locket in the shape of a shield from the 1940′s era that I will always cherish. In addition we wrote our own wedding vows, including some vows from a wedding scene in one of our favorite Shakespeare plays, “As You Like It.”
Our special day included so many memorable highlights, all of which were captured by our talented photographers, Jon and Jenny of Adrian Photography. To name a few: our custom vintage invitations inviting guests to wear tea hats and fascinators; family heirloom, vintage silver into our high tea decor; stunning vintage, lace tulle linens; dancing to the romantic classic “Moon River” played by a live string quartet; and leaving at the end of our special day in a fabulous vintage London taxi cab! With the help of family, Abby Penner from True Devotion, Deb and Marlene of Sparrow’s Nest Wedding Decor, David Yanchuk (our floral designer), and our wonderful caterers, Culinary Capers, our elegant vintage wedding came together in a truly magical day for us and our guests that we will always treasure.
