If there is anything I love more than the Monique Lhuillier gown this gorg bride is totally rocking, it is the wedding she wore it to. It’s a classic Jewish soiree, with a whole lotta special in the mix. With Shane Carpenter of Readyluck behind the camera, we are treated to a wedding so beautiful and so fun, it’s got us all turning up the music and spending a little time taking a dance break. David and I met while working as counselors at our childhood sleep-away camp 12 years ago! Meeting my husband at the place we call our “home away from home” has had a tremendous impact on our lives and our relationship. We were the artistic kids at our camp, while everyone else might be running around on the soccer field, we’d be found at arts and crafts painting all night long. But sadly, we only had two months out of the year in the same place, when camp was over, David would go home to Florida, and I would return to New York and soon Michigan for college.
We spent the next 5 years in a long-distance relationship but after a few years together in New York City when David was ready to propose, he naturally returned to where it all began- camp! Over one of our yearly weekend visits to camp with my brother and a few of our friends, David proposed at the spot we had our first kiss. After an emotional announcement of our engagement to the whole camp family, David whisked me off to the dive bar we’d spent many blurry nights for a toast and to my surprise he had arranged to have all our friends and family at the bar!! Until my wedding day, it was the most incredible, emotional day of my life!
We were married a year and half later at the Muttontown Country Club in East Norwich, NY on a gorgeous fall day. To help us stay sane and organized we hired the wonderful, Matthew Robbins Design. They were so hands-on and helpful in every imaginable way. It was very important to us that the evening feel warm and personal and Matthew Robbins really helped us achieve that. The ceremony room they created felt like stepping into a dream, with romantic candlelight and an unbelievable chuppah.
We also wanted to tell our story throughout the night and we did so in little touches- with mini art easels to hold the table cards, illustrations we’d done, and an incredibly moving performance by our very talented friends during the ceremony. David and I are so lucky to have an amazing circle of friends and family surrounding us and we wanted this night to reflect that. My bridesmaids looked beautiful in Joanna August dresses in different shades of blue and purple. To differentiate my two Maids of Honor, they wore sparkly belts from my own accessories line “BridesMade in Manhattan.”
Choosing our photographer, Shane Carpenter of Readyluck, was also one of the best decisions I made throughout our planning. Shane was such a pleasure to work with, it felt like having a friend by my side the whole night, and you could really tell he loves what he does, it shows in his work and in his whole demeanor. Our band, The Hudson Project, had our guests up on their feet the entire night- they even did a killer rendition of “Teen Spirit” by Nirvana that had all the guys moshing in their tuxes!! The party continued way into the night with an after-party, complete with a DJ under the chuppah! I will never forget how much love was felt in the room that night, from generations of fellow campers, family and friends – it was everything I could have dreamed for and more!
Another wonderful by-product of our wedding (besides you know, the marriage!) was the creation of a new business with my mother! After a very frustrating search for her own Mother of the Bride dress, we realized what a need there was for a place for women of ALL sizes to shop for those special occasion dresses in comfort and privacy. We opened Mielle Boutique, an upscale, appointment-only store for evening wear in New York City last year. It’s been an exciting venture and we’re so happy to bring this service to all the future Mothers of the Bride and Grooms out there!
