From daisies & pearls... Lauren and Stephen met in their seventh grade Social Studies class. As time passed, their puppy love dwindled but an everlasting friendship was kindled. Fifteen years after their first kiss, the stars aligned and they found themselves in the same city with no plans on a Saturday night. The rest is history. The couple chose Kingfield, Maine, for the location of their 9.10.11 nuptials because they wanted their friends and family to experience the beauty of mountains they enjoy during vacations from the hustle and bustle of the city. Lauren and Stephen found a picturesque bed and breakfast for the setting of their “from scratch” wedding. One of the fun details Lauren and Stephen used throughout their event was bunting. Lauren’s bunting-making skills were well practiced for many months leading up to the big day. The couple even used bunting on the adorable invitations they designed. The bride and groom decided their “First Look” would take place on the New Portland Wire Bridge. Lauren looked absolutely stunning in a lace gown and single dahlia in her hair. The couple enjoyed one another’s company while dancing on the bridge.
Guests were warmly welcomed wit Izze sodas and scrumptious homemade cookies to savor as they waited for the ceremony to begin. The ceremony took place along the farm’s beautiful flower garden, offering breathtaking views of the mountains. The aisle was adorned with mason jars full of pretty flowers hung on shepherd’s hooks and, yes, bunting. Bouquets of gorgeous dahlias, in warm late summer shades of orange, pink, red and yellow, were made by the bride and friends. The color palette perfectly complimented the bridal party’s lovely persimmon dresses. The finishing touch on Lauren’s bouquet was an elegant lace wrap to match her dress. The gentlemen sported fun bike ties in honor of Stephen’s love for cycling. Their tan suits were topped with red zinnias grown in Stephen’s parents' garden. Following the ceremony guests were treated to cocktails and BBQ-inspired hors d'oeuvres. Each guest received their own mason jar to fill with the spirit of choice and a name button. The dinner bell was rung to encourage guests to find their seats under the tent.
The tent was a canopy of sheer delight. Vivid bunting and tissue pom poms everywhere the eye could see. Each table was designated by points of interest along the Appalachian Trail. The centerpieces were composed of dahlias and other native Maine flowers arranged in mason jars and vintage bottles. The lovely vintage plates and salt and pepper shakers, which Lauren and her family collected from months of searching antique shops and sales, were the treasures to each tablescape. Colorful napkins were accessorized with mini tissue pom pom napkin rings, crafted by the bride. Dinner was a buffet of mouthwatering BBQ deliciousness. For dessert, guests enjoyed delectable cupcakes, each topped with its own little pennant. The cupcakes were displayed on wood cake stands made by Stephen and his father. Following dessert, the fun continued with Mad Libs and a fauxto booth. As the sun set the scotch and cigar bar was opened for anyone desiring a night cap. A fire was lit to keep guests warm in the crisp mountain air. And what is a camp fire without s’mores. They were the cherry on top of a very sweet wedding.
