Kansas City Wedding Redo by Alea Lovely Photo + Video

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times. What I wouldn’t give for a wedding re-do. Don’t get me wrong. My wedding was handsdown the most spectacularly wonderful day of my life. It was total perfection. But it was also 6 years and two babies ago. And the thought of donning a pretty dress and styling a fancy fete is almost too much to resist. As it was for this next gorgeous couple. Who designed a wedding re-do that blew me away and that suited them to utter perfection. Photographed by Alea Lovely with design by Victorian Gardens, THIS is serious wedding eye candy. Click here to see even more.

From the bride… Hunter and I are already married, but we wanted to do a wedding all our own this time. We just wanted things to be simple and our own. The wedding “redo” was held in a old building loft with lots of great character in downtown Kansas City. Small, intimate and modern. I’m an art teacher and very creative, but I let the professionals take reins on their ideas, and I love how it came together. The the invitations were great because their reply cards were open for drawings. I wore a dress designed and made by my friend that was inspired by Vera Wang. The floral designer was amazing because they painted a branch black and hung it above the ceremony space with white blooms hanging from the smaller branches. They styled the reception pieces perfectly to give us a classic look with a modern twist. Our stylist made the setting with old furniture and pieces from home to give it an intimate feeling. The cake was amazing because the black flower was the perfect accent to tie in my dress. There was a picture that I had drawn of Hunter and I that hung above the cake table that really brought in a personal touch of us. It was such a fun, intimate wedding.

I adore the dress and the fact that the couple are re-doing their vows. Re-marrying your love is simply breath taking. My husband and I renewed our vows on our 30th and the whole day blew me away. I hope this inspires more couples to do it. Gorgeous job to all, especially your seamstress for the dress! SPECTACULAR!

  2. Holy cow. That dress is AMAZING!!!

I LOVE this idea and Abby I love how you said, "Don’t get me wrong. My wedding was handsdown the most spectacularly wonderful day of my life. It was total perfection. But it was also 6 years and two babies ago." Especially for those of us that work in the wedding industry, the knowledge accumulated and all the drop dead gorgeous and unique ideas and resources we see, well they were really giving me a hankering to re-do my own wedding! Well, this summer is our 5 year anniversary so yes we are WAY to early for a vow renewal, but instead we are doing a 'cinq-ans-fete' and basically throwing an intimate soiree and fabulously fun party for those closest to us to enjoy and celebrate with us. I am so glad you shared this post and I too hope that more past brides and frankly all the ladies out there are inspired to do something similar or even just throw a really phenomenal party! There is nothing like getting dressed up and dancing and drinking bubbly drinks, nothing! Thanks again for sharing this!

I don't understand the wedding re-do...Why would you do this? Even if your wedding wasn't totally perfect, that is life, right? I am not knocking it, just trying to understand why people would want to do this...any thoughts? anyone else done this?

  10. jane says:

Love this, where did the necklace come from?

  11. Shawna Gohel says:

Lovely to see a colored dress!

  12. So pretty! I am a bit curious about the stationery... why the "Just married" sign with the 2012 date? Weren't they already married before this celebration? Same for the invitation - I would have expected it to say "request the honor of your presence" at their vow renewal (or something of the sort!) instead of at their marriage. Just curious! Oh yes, and that bouquet is divine!

  13. Love the Stationery esp the Dave the dates... Em I was wondering the exact same thing. Would be interested to see why?

  14. Alea Lovely says:

Emformarvelous/designelegance : The bride is a close friend of mine and she let a friend do the stationary. The" Just married sign" was just for fun to go over the cake - the bride liked it. The invites were chosen by the bride to really be more for the pictures because everyone was already invited since it was just such a small gathering. It was very casual intimate event that they just kind of wanted to be fun and about them and included their close friends and family to bring it together and maybe not so much about the logistics, they put it together very fast :). It was so fun to shoot!!!!!!

  15. Ashley says:

I love Vera's Fall 2012 line, my mother is re-creating one of her nude mermaid dresses :) Hope my Vera inspired dress turns out as well as yours! :) Congrats!

  16. Amy says:

Em for Marvelous- I know a friend of mine redid her wedding completely after most of her guests and wedding party including the groom were infected with food poison from the catering company. After the law suite they re-did their wedding because of the grief behind their big day. It unfortunately happens.
Beautiful photos. What a way to Re-do your day!!

  17. samantha says:

this is stunning! PLEASE tell me where you found this necklace! i've been searching for exactly that for my bridesmaids!

  18. noellehale says:

@jane: I've sent an email to Alea Lovely to find out. Hopefully we'll hear back soon. Thanks for reading!

  19. alea lovely says:

The necklace is from target maybe 6 months ago.

  20. Annie says:

Simply STUNNING!!! All the power to them....They wanted a re-do, they went for it!!! Love is cause for celebration over.and.over.again!!

  21. This is just lovely. You can do this for renewing your vows as well. It was beautifully pulled off ... I'm speechless. :)

  22. Tegan says:

Wow, I am not normally one for a coloured dress, but that gown is so striking! It stands out almost twice as much as a traditional white/ivory dress!

  23. Curious says:

Beautiful scene, beautiful photos...but let's be honest here. It's not an actual vow renewal...unless the photographer's husband holds the authority to perform the ceremony?

  24. Alea Lovely says:

@Curious yes that's my husband, you don't need to be ordained or have authority to hold a small unofficial ceremony if they are already married right? They are close friends and asked him to read. This blog is about wedding style and so if they wanted new pictures and to do things differently and held a small redo- what is the problem? They did it with amazing style and included us in the process and I thought it was great and was glad to be apart of it. I don't want anything negative tied to this gorgeous post and appreciate Abby for posting it. Some people just can't be happy for others and it's really sad.

  25. Jessica (the bride) says:

For those who are curious as to why we wanted a wedding redo, the answer is simple. we did this because we wanted to. We haven't been married that long but when we first got married I was pregnant with my sweet daughter and wanted a chance for her to be there. We had a good idea and brought it to our close creative friends that have been pulling together these inspiration shoots and wanted something like that for ourselves. WE WERE INSPIRED! So we wanted to do something fun and creative to just renew our vows as NEW PARENTS. A lot can happen when you have a baby so I'm not sure why every one is having their two cents about what we thought would be fun and special for us. I'm thankful that I have friends that jumped in and made it happen on such short notice and feel slighted that its being questioned. It was such a great day and wanted something for us.

    P.s. To @curious , don't hate because you weren't invited.

  26. Abby Larson says:

@Jessica...you are my hero. I love the idea that you had a wedding re-do because you wanted a wedding re-do. There should never be a reason that you have to justify WHY you want to throw another party in honor of the one you love. I just might follow suit!

For me, a wedding re-do is an excuse to throw a gorgeous party for ONLY the people that you love, to don a pretty dress, to give your hubs a huge smackaroo and to feel creative and inspired and beautifully in love. The fact that you get to do say what you feel with years of experience and children under your belt is amazing. With or without formalities.

    xoxo, Abby

  27. Love it!!I enjoyed my time spent on your lovely blog. Hugs!

  28. Incredible! That dress is absolutely spectacular! And the vintage accessories and touches are so romantic! Now I'm considering a wedding re-do after this : )

  29. Park Winters says:

This is a beautiful couple and photo shoot !

  30. JoAnna says:

    LOVEEEEEEEEEE :)

  31. WOW! What a gorgeous dress! My 10 year anniversary is coming up in a few weeks and I am DYING to do my wedding over again. I hated where we got married but I definitely love the man I married :)

  32. Denise Whiddon says:

Jessica, you're redo was amazing and I absolutely loved everything about it. I wish that at sometime I had of redid my wedding to my husband. We married 33 years ago. It was a second marriage for both of us. We had big weddings in our former marriages and didn't go all out for it the second time around. Ashame because it was the marriage that lasted. My daughter is getting married in June this year and so we will live through her celebration. Good luck to you and your little family. It looked like a very special time and we will always be glad you did it. Save the dress and maybe that baby girl will wear it to a high school prom.

  33. Elaine says:

OMG!!!! love her dress!...love her shoes !!! AMAZING

  34. Great looking 'redo' with some cool styling and fantastic images. It looks very enjoyable :)

  35. looking for suits says:

I love the khaki pants and the vest that the men wore. Where did you find them?

  36. noellehale says:

@Jane and @samantha: The necklace is from Target, but it was bought over a year ago, so you may have a hard time finding the exact one. Sorry I can't give you a better answer, but thanks for reading!

@looking for suits: I'll send an email to Alea and ask. Stand by!

  37. This venue looks amazing! The details are stunning! The oreo display is too cool!

  38. Tim Duncan says:

Love love love seeing a non-white wedding dress! She's stunning! :) And those shoes are SO ADORABLE!

  39. I LOVE the dress. And the inspiration behind the redo too. Very well done. Such a beautiful day to celebrate your love. Well put together.
