From the bride…When Scotty and I first started talking about what kind of wedding we wanted, we immediately envisioned a beach wedding; small, with just immediate family and friends. You see, I am not exactly the typical bride who has dreamed about her wedding for the past 28 years, but rather, I really just wanted to make it official! Well, one thing led to another, and we just couldn’t make it work for so many different reasons. Driving home from spending New Years at the lake, I was feeling a little dejected that all of our wedding plans were basically falling through! We drove past Grand View Lodge in Nisswa, Minnesota, and decided to make a phone call to see if they were available to do a Minnesota wedding in July. They were available! We signed a contract the next week. We were getting married, up north, “in the woods!”
We knew we wanted something a little different than the usual wedding. Most importantly, I didn’t want a typical “up north, woodsy” wedding with birch bark and pine boughs everywhere! I wanted something unique. Most of all, we wanted all of our guests to feel completely comfortable, sort of like a backyard summer party, but still elegant. I wanted something whimsical with a lot of personal touches.
We also didn’t want to buy a bunch of stuff that we wouldn’t use again, or waste money on rental items. So, I dug through my mama’s things, stuff I have collected over the years, and sort of came up with a menagerie of things that we already owned; milk glass, antique dishes, mason jars, and other trinkets that somehow came together to make our day really beautiful. The things we did purchase all had to have a purpose once the big day was over! We purchased ticking stripe that my childhood nanny made into tablecloths, which will upholster our kitchen chairs and outdoor furniture with this fall! We didn’t want to have things go to waste! We used the resources that we had on hand, and added to them when needed. Everything was carefully thought out!
When Scotty and I pulled up in the golf cart to our reception site, it took my breath away! I never knew I had a dream wedding so to speak, but I can honestly say that we had the wedding of our dreams. It was the best day of our lives, and I am still blown away by how magical the entire evening was! I would relive that day 1,000 times if I could!

What a colorful and yet beautiful wedding. I just love it. :-D
So gorgeous, I love the details! Where are the bridesmaid dresses from? The pleating is so pretty!
Thank you so much for featuring our wedding! You officially made my day instantly awesome! We really couldn't have asked for a better day. I couldn't have asked for a better husband, either! Lucky girl! Anyways, this wedding would NOT be possible without Elizabeth at Elizabeth Anne weddings, (hire her! Seriously, GO... NOW!) Dani at Studio Fleurette (also known as the gal who saved the wedding!) and of course Ms. Maggie at Grandview Lodge. (The martha of the northwoods country... minus all of the snootiness and a whole bunch of fun!) I love you all! And, one last thing... a special shout out to Elizabeth at flutterpress letterpress for printing the most amazing invitations I have ever seen. You all are the peanut butter to my wedding jelly! I couldn't have done it without y'all! Hannah the golden retriever is basking in her new found fame today. And, I think we will let her do just that!
Kim,
The bridesmaids dresses are from Priscilla of Boston. Which unfortunately means that they are no longer available. Sniff... my sister is getting married this spring... and we so wanted to use them again!
Amazing… I have tears of happiness for those 2 wonderful looking newlyweds.
Fantastic wedding! I was wondering where the wedding coordinator found the Holy Matrimony sign for the grass? Im getting married this May and I would love to have one
The pictures are dreamy and KUDOS to Dani from Studio Fleurette who does stunning bridal work!
Heather,
The signs were purchased at yardgreetings.com. you can order any letter you choose, which means you can write anything you want! Fab! They were awesome. We sold them to a bride to be the next morning at breakfast for her upcoming wedding!
Oliver,
YOU are the red solo cup to my party!
K.
Beautiful wedding, the couple's personality really shines through you can tell this wedding was about celebrating such a special day with family and friends, I would love to know where the bride purchased her wedding headband from? I love her hair :)
I love these bridesmaids dresses! who is the designer?
K.K., Love that you just mentioned Red Solo Cup! Thanks for sharing your gorgeous wedding with us and being so helpful in the comment stream.
Darling wedding! What a beautiful group of people!!!
Absolutely a beautiful wedding. I particularly liked the pictures of the father and the antique boat w/ sign!
Hey Ladies,
My headband and the bridesmaid dresses came from Priscilla of Boston. Which means you cannot get them anymore. However, there are beautiful headbands at BHLDN. I bought 2 headbands... one from Priscilla of Boston and one from BHLDN. I made a last minute decision and wore the Priscilla of Boston one. Although, the BHLDN one is actually my favorite.
It was THE most beautiful, creative, and unique setup I have been to on the wedding front! Elizabeth really did an absolutely amazing job!!
Congrats. This is my favorite SMP wedding ever. That bride is so tiny tiny and stunning. YOU are gorgeous! Your wedding is amazing. Love that doggie. Where did you get your veil?
Gorgeous bride. Amazing wedding. Someday I hope to have a day just like this. KUDOS.
Hi
I really love this “who are all of these people” board and I’d like to make one for my own wedding in March but can’t work out how it might have been done! Or did you buy it? where's it from please?
Beautiful wedding!
Hello again, Ladies!
1. Veronica and T.Y. would you like to be my best friends? I look equally amazing in sweatpants and socks.
2. Veil is from P of B. (sorry ladies) It is fab... I wear it around the house ALL THE TIME. It's a day brightener. It goes equally well with a bathing suit, cotton dress, sweatpants, jeans as it does with a lace gown!
3. Samantha, the board was purchased at pottery barn. It has about a 3.5" cork board edge around the chalkboard. I cut the photographs down to size to fit around the board. AND then I wrote everyone's name and how we knew them/interesting fact about them on the board with chalkboard pens. It was a HIT. Everyone loved this board. It was totally worth the hours it took me to write out all of this. I am not sure if the boards are still available at pottery barn or not. Good luck!
PS...
If I had to make one recommendation for music in a minnesota wedding, it HAS to be Jeff James. Hire him. He is amazing. Our guests are still talking about him. Seriously.
I really love the bright whimsical feel of the wedding and that the bride incorporated items they already had. The bouquet handle wrap on the brides bouquet is a beautiful touch...very lovely design by Studio Fleurette. Congratulations to the couple!
KK!! How sweet! How incredibly beautiful! I absolutely love the milk glass and mason jar vases. Thank you so much for choosing my little etsy shop to make your mixed print cloth napkins. And now, I hope my re-purposed cloth napkins are a reminder of your special day, at every meal, for years to come. I can't tell you how much it means to me, that I could help to complete your special day. Best wishes, and congrats to you!
Showstopper is right! KK, Your wedding day was absolutely Magical! I absolutely ADORE the milk glass and blue mason jar vases! Thank you so much for choosing me/my etsy shop to make the cloth napkins for your wedding! I hope that my cloth napkins will be a wonderful reminder for you at every single meal, of your most special wedding day! My cloth napkins are just one tiny detail... but it is the little details that make everything so perfect.
KK was great to work with! I made the custom silhouette handkerchiefs for her and just love seeing them in this gorgeous feature!
Hey,
I was looking at your photos and was wondering how many guests you had at your wedding? I was looking into this venue for my own wedding and am having a large group. I loved that you had the reception outside amongst the trees and am trying to do something similar. Also did all of your guests stay on the venue property?
Thanks,
Marti
Hello Marti,
We had about 180 guests. A large majority of our guests have cabins up in the brainerd lakes area, but the rest stayed at Grand View. We did offer our guests additional lodging options, but I think that under 10 couples opted to stay at other locations.
Good Luck. Hope that this helps.
Best,
K.K.
Hi KK - it's me, Holly from San Diego!
Your sweet mother-in-law sent an email out earlier today to all of her high school friends. Of course in it was the link to these beautiful photos.
I must admit I looked at each and every one and the best ones twice. What a creative and fun loving person you are. Of course I knew the fun loving part, but who knew you could create such a colorful and innovative wedding.
From the old View Master, to the Top Siders, to the patterns and colors you chose, I loved it all! I hope you and Scotty have many many wonderful years together.
All my best wishes,
Holly
