From the Bride…Jason and my story began at Jackson High School, where we were close friends but nothing more. After graduation we took a trip to Greece and Italy along with 20 of our friends and in one long bus ride, we determined that one day, we would get married. As we sat, talking, laughing, and eating pistachios, we revealed how we had secretly been interested in each other for a while but our timing was never right. That’s the moment that we decided we would have to make time and we devised a plan. We would start dating in college because maybe our timing would be right then, allow for a break-up along the way, pursue careers in fields that we loved and then, when we were 25 and still in love, we would get married. We called our conversation “the seven year plan” and promised over a pistachio shell that we would try to make it happen. We then split the shell, ate the nut, and each kept half.
Plans can’t always work seamlessly as there are the unanticipated setbacks – the fights and break-ups, my little sister’s TWO bouts with cancer, and just plain growing up in general, however on March 25, 2010, the day that we heard the beautiful words that my little sister was finally in remission from her Leukemia, Jason was secretly buying me a ring. One week later, on Good Friday, he proposed!
For our first wedding decision, choosing a venue and a photographer seemed to go hand in hand, and shortly after deciding on The Inn at Bay Harbor because of our long loving relationships with Northern Michigan, we found Calynn, a friend of a friend, and she. was. amazing! With the bulk of our budget going into our dream venue, I knew I needed to get creative if we wanted the spirit of our love and relationship shine though in the smaller details. With help and support from family and friends we were able to complete a lot of the design ourselves. My parents, Jason and I built our photo-booth, I designed the wedding invitations and the paper goods and our mom’s helped assemble them, Jason’s parents helped us assemble the programs, some wonderful friends of ours helped with the ribbon wands and the fabric wrapped favor popper boxes. The largest and most time consuming project was definitely our favors. I wanted our guests to have something that represents us, so I, along with help from friends and family, made and painted flower magnets out of pistachio shells. They ended up being a hit, and well worth the hours of effort.
We both feel that the actual day was a perfect dream. Everything seemed to fall into place, even the weather was perfection, and 8 years after determining to be together forever, we were able to share our love and celebrate our commitment to one another with 190 of our closest friends and family in beautiful Northern Michigan.

A beautiful day for two beautiful people. Every detail gushed of the love that came through the both of them.
Beautiful wedding and a beautiful story of love and courage. I am glad your sister is doing better. I will keep her in my prayers.
beautiul wedding! you looked stunning! did you make the table numbers yourself? if so, can you give me some info. on how to DIY? thanks!
Gorgeous bride and gorgeous wedding. What a beautiful story!
What a beautiful wedding, the shot of the bride and groom on the bow of the yacht is gorgeous! Although I am horrifically jealous of that wonderful weather! The table numbers and invitations are great too, I love the rustic home-made feel!
Beautiful wedding! Where are the ties from?
Gorgeous wedding , What were your favors that were on the table setting wrapped in gold? and where did you get them?
Thanks SO much Style Me Pretty! We are so honored and elated to be featured!
Natalie, thank you so much for your kind words and prayer! My sister and my entire family can feel those prayers and we know that's the reason is doing so much better :)
Guzzij2000, thank you! yes, I made the table numbers here's how: I bought the frames from local thrift shops, spray painted them, and adhered burlap to the back. The numbers are actually cut out of the same wallpaper that I used for the photo-booth (and the invitation envelope liners too, but I don't think those are pictured) I just blew up numbers in photoshop (or word) to about 400 size font I think and the printed on my home printer. I cut those out and used them as a template to trace onto the wallpaper, and then cut out the wallpaper numbers. I think then I just used double-sided tape to stick the numbers to the burlap since they'd be sandwiched with the glass. :)
Kbenninger4, Thank you! Jason's tie is Tommy Hilfiger and I think we actually found the groomsmen ties and bow ties on amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002TOU0BO/ref=oh_o03_s00_i00_details - fairly inexpensive but they worked out really well!
Claudette, Thanks so much! :) The favors inside the gold popper boxes were handmade pistachio shell flower magnets to represent our story. I think there's a photo of them in the gallery.
Lovely!
I love the use of babies breath in the bridesmaids bouquets, the grooms boutonniere, and centerpieces. It's a flower that really creates a beautiful feel when used properly. Very beautiful!
Hi! Gorgeous wedding! How did you build your photo booth? What is required to build it? what a great idea!
Hi Kaitlin! Thanks so much! :) Here are the instructions for our photobooth:
Materials:
1 8' x 4' piece of MDF or particle board. i think it was 1/4" thick (they cut it to size for us. I looked for something with a smooth face so it would be easier to adhere the wallpaper.)
6 or 7 2" x 4"s, cut to size (4 of these will make the board sturdier when it's standing and the other 2 are what's holding it up.) We just ended up using scrap wood from my dads garage.
jig saw
sand paper
wood screws
wall paper
spray adhesive
old, thrifted frames spray painted to the color of your choice.
a helper (or a couple) :)
First, we thought about how we were going to transport the photobooth, so we measured the bed of my dad's pick up truck and figured out that the board would need to be cut down to about 4' x 6' 2". they cut it for us at home depot.
When we got the freshly cut board home, I figured out how I wanted to place the frames, then used those frames as a template to draw my cutting lines. We used a jigsaw to cut the holes, then sanded down the rough edges with sandpaper.
after the holes were cut, we attached the 2 x 4s along all 4 edges with wood screws.
next, I carefully wallpapered the board using spray adhesive (I thought it be easier than wallpaper paste) After it was wallpapered, I cut out the holes with a knife and scissors.
We attached the painted frames with wood screws, but be careful not to use screws that are too long... you don't want to have them poke through in the back.
that's pretty much it... we ended up adding a curtain in the back a couple weeks before the ending, but that was pretty easy. Just used two eye hooks (one on either side) and some left over clothes line (a sturdy rope or twine would work just as well.) We used old brown curtains that we had lying around the house so we didn't have to buy or make anything.
hope that helps! - Erin
