Palm Springs Wedding by Dave Richards Photography

August 15th. 2011 by Erin | Filed Under | 20 comments

There are only a handful of venues that consistently produce one fabulously great wedding after another and The Ace Hotel is at the top of that list. Full of hipster delights and a backdrop of golden sunshine, the only thing that could possibly trump its coolness is this wedding captured by Dave Richards Photography. It’s filled with travel-inspired goodies, a reception that screams casual elegance and loads of pretty florals by David Rohr Floral Studio. Intrigued? See the whole pretty party in the full wedding gallery.

From Dave Richards PhotographyMelissa and John knew that they wanted to theme their wedding around what they love most, traveling the world. They both love the desert and have a love for retro hotels so they thought that The Ace Hotel in Palm Springs would be the perfect backdrop for their travel inspired wedding.  “The Ace Hotel is such a fun place with a relaxed retro vibe, so that is why we had our wedding there.  It was a perfect fit!”

The welcome table was decorated with travel inspired knick-knacks including an old globe, compass, and a vintage luggage bag for the gift cards. “We fell in love with the beautiful mountains in Palm Springs and how they light up in the late afternoon.  It was the perfect backdrop for our ceremony.”

After an intimate ceremony, guests headed into the commune at the Ace Hotel and picked up their hand made luggage tags, which also served as escort cards.  Each table was themed around all of the places Melissa and John had visited as a couple and were decorated with photos of their travels and simple flowers arranged in vintage jars.

Anyone know the Nichole Miller dress style name?

  10. Melissa says:

The Nicole Miller dress is the Faille Trumpet Gown - that I bought at Nordstrom's. It is a size 6 if you are interested in buying it used. It was just worn on my wedding day (see above pictures), with minimal alterations around the waist. If not interested, here is the link to buy it new: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/nicole-miller-faille-trumpet-gown/3161460?origin=category&resultback=2354 Good luck!

I'm looking at the Ace for my wedding too! Your wedding looked so amazing. Did you and your guests enjoy the Ace? I want my wedding to be a party, but I heard that on the weekends the Ace can turn into a Spring Breaker crowd. I get worried about my 75 year old dad and 6 year old niece. I want to make sure everyone feels comfortable and at home. Congrats!

  17. Melissa says:

@Heather...we LOVED the Ace. The food and staff were amazing. I think you only have to worry about the "spring breaker crowd" during certain event weekends e.g. Coachella. My dad is 79 and my mom is 70. Everyone seemed to have a good time. I would recommend not having your wedding in the summer. Although the AC is great, 100degree weather is still very tough to bear...especially for the elderly...when traveling room to room, etc. My husband and I were so happy we had our wedding at the Ace because we were able to spend the whole weekend with guests instead of trying to squeeze in 2 minutes with each guest at the wedding. If you have any other questions feel free to email me at misswenger@gmail.com Good luck!

  18. Diana says:

Melissa, I came across your album, and had to tell you this is so bizarre, I'm basically planning the same exact wedding as you. My colors are gray and peach, I have the same Nicole Miller dress, my bridesmaids are wearing graphite dresses from jcrew, and we are doing a lot of the same decorative travel elements, since we've lived and traveled all over the world. So strange! Anyways, it was so great to find your album and see all of the elements in one place. It looks absolutely beautiful, and this made me so much more excited. One question- did you consider wearing flats with your dress? Our wedding is in the backyard and my fiance is not super tall so I've been thinking I'd wear flats, but I'm wondering if the dress looks a lot better when you're elongated. thoughts? I'm 5'3ish. Thanks Melissa!!

  19. Melissa says:

@Diana. I didn't want to wear flats because I am 5'4" and my husband is 6'4", but by the end of the evening I definitely wished I would have. I would suggest bringing a pair of flats and heels to your fitting and see what the tailor thinks. Nordstrom has some great tailors by the way if that is where you purchased your NicoleMiller dress. If you're petite, I would say go for the flats. If you are curvy like me, then I would suggest some sort of heels. Good luck!!
