What is it about the desert? The light? The sense of time slowing down? Gorgeous, natural surroundings? Really amazing sunsets? I think it might be ALL of the above and what better spot for an intimate wedding. Total perfection if you ask me and these desert festivities were completely DIY from start to finish minus the amazing photography by Kurt Boomer of course. His images have completely rocked my world one amazing succulent shot at a time and now they can rock yours too. See the full wedding here!

From Kurt Boomer Photo…I love weddings that are focused on the natural setting. Shannon and Carl’s wedding was set in Pioneer Town at the Pipes Canyon Lodge. It’s an AMAZING place. Pioneer Town is settled next to Joshua Tree Park and the photographs came out amazing. The desert light made for gorgeous shots with my film. Joshua Trees sprinkled among the desert springs flowers made it hard to take an average photograph. She stated early on, “we are doing everything opposite of the boring cookie cutter weddings”.

Now, when I say this was a DIY, this was DIY! The dress was handmade by Shannon’s best friend. The succulent center pieces, bouquets and boutonniere were all made the day of by her sister. Pies replaced the traditional cake, made of course by Carl’s mother. The music on vintage vinyl was spun by good friends of Shannon and Carl. They even had a friend make custom mason jars which everybody shared a good amount of beer from. The homemade Mexican dinner was done by Pipes Canyon. They were married by Carl’s best friend. Even the napkins were handmade.

Why the extreme DIY? Carl is in medical school and Shannon is in school herself. The true definition of starving students. They love the outdoors and all it has to offer (especially rock climbing). About the only things they went outside of family and friends for was the venue and me for photography.

Pioneer Town is one of my favorite places on earth--and THE perfect place for a ceremony and celebration. I adore this wedding and the gorgeous photos!

  2. Mallory says:

Oh my goodness, that photo of the couple holding hands watching the ceremony is genius! I officially love Kurt Boomer Photo.

  3. I love outdoor weddings - and this one is in such a unique place. Looks like the weather was beautiful too.

  4. MRS. Daltroy says:

Wow, I wish I had known about this photographer before I got married, I would have hired him to cover our wedding in the Sierras. The photos are spectacular and the center pieces are fantastic and fit the wedding's vibe naturally. I love how the photo's actually capture the spirit of the desert - I think that must be hard to do. My wedding was on a shoe-string budget and the photographs didn't capture the mountain feel of the wedding like I hoped they would have - I probably should have hired Kurt Boomer. Amazing. Maybe for our 5 year vow renewal in another year :)

    GREAT WORK.

  10. Elizabeth says:

These photographs are EXCEPTIONAL. It's evident the photographer has an artistic eye that many do not. Time and time again, I've seen photos of other weddings and they all blur together because of their generic feel. Kurt Boomer's photographs are fresh, energetic and romantic. He has such a knack for balancing the scenery and his subjects. Romanticism at it's best. Other photos from Mr. Boomer's website are equally outstanding. I'll definitely tell friends and family about this photographer and will look to hire him when I have my wedding. This guy has a great future in this business.

Yay! This Joshua Tree wedding was actually me and my husband's! Pipes Canyon was a dream location for us! For all of you considering hiring Kurt, do it! He was absolutely amazing to work with and definitely took our breath away with his photographs. He has such a unique style--we couldn't be happier with the outcome. I only wish we had another event soon to hire Kurt for! Also, to answer some of the above questions--our rings were from Etsy and my dress was made by my friend Jiminie Hayward who is a designer who sells her dresses on Etsy.

I got married to weeks ago and was the luckiest girl to have Kurt Boomer taking our wedding pictures. While the pictures are not quite ready yet, some of them have been published on his blog. I can't even express my feelings when i look at them, they are so amazing. My friends keep telling us that we look like models hired by an agency and we are just two ordinary people. So if anyone out there needs a photographer, don't look no more! Hire him! Just look on his blog, it proofs what a truly amazing guy he is. Plus he was the most relaxed person i've ever met and it was so much fun to work with him. He made us feel like the most awesome people and we went on an adventure thru the field with him.

  31. elizabeth says:

wow, this has been very inspirational....we are planning on getting married this spring in the area. Shannon, I wonder if you would be willing to contact me so I could pick your brain a little...there are not a lot of resources online for the area?
