Beach parties are a way of life in San Diego. What else are you going to do with miles and miles of coastline and perfect weather to boot? Rough, I know. But when beach parties meet the design and styling of our resident darling Sweet Emilia Jane, they take on a whole new level of cool infused with a mid-century modern flair and oodles of personality. Captured by Aimee photographed every last awesome detail including our new favorite one liner: Love is the new black. Get yourself over to the gallery for the full wedding spread. It is a total must see and for more of this shutterbug’s gorgeous images, stop by the California Blog for a 50′s inspired bridal shower like no other. It’s a Captured by Aimee kind of day at SMP.

From Sweet Emilia Jane… Kristi and Nate are your quintessential Southern California couple. She is blonde + laid back and he is a music + food lover and surfer and they are both super rad. They came to me with a vision of a Palm Springs, Viceroy-inspired wedding with a black, white and yellow color scheme. They are both so much fun and I wanted to infuse their personalities into the decor with some cheeky, vintage touches. They have a phenomenal mid-century modern style to their home so we brought in a little mod flavor to their elegant beachy nuptials. The Southern California vibe was going strong with planted succulents for centerpieces as well as the favors + escort cards.
Nate founded The Urbanist, San Diego’s ultimate guide to nightlife, shopping and dining, so you know that the food and music was going to be out of this world. The Mattson 2 set the tone during cocktail hour with their funky, swingin’ sounds and their adorable skinny ties. And the dance floor was packed and wild after dinner with Eddy Turbo at the helm. The Sprinkles cupcakes were a HUGE hit…we plated them on top of upside-down IKEA vases for a unique spread…but they didn’t last long.
Our vision was definitely brought to life with the help of Carmin, who coordinated throughout the wedding planning process and always had a great attitude and smile on her face….even though she probably thought some of our ideas were totally wacky! The result was a completely seamless, elegant, rockin’ beach party with a fun, mod flair.

This is the exact same dress I'm wearing for my wedding in October! I'm doing the strapless version and adding a belt though. Makes me anxious for my wedding!
The ‘love is the new black’ sign is genius! Just love the colour scheme, the bridesmaids shoes, the florals, all carried out so well. The skeleton cupcake toppers have me hook, line and sinker because thats what i’ve chosen to do for our wedding. LOVE IT!

Where did you get your feather purse? I LOVE IT!
thanks, feather purse is from ASOS

Hi where are the bridesmaids shoes from? They are adorable
Everything looks so beautiful and unique!
Thanks for having me be a part of you extraordinary day!
Thank you Kristi for the feather purse location. I just ordered it online! It will hopefully work perfectly. Now one more question - did you rent or buy the pashminas? I need to have some for my mountain wedding but they are so expensive everywhere I look. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Erin - the mother-of-the-groom bought the pashminas as a gift. I'll see if I can find out where they came from!
Just gorgeous!!!!
Hello,
I was wondering how you did the favors. I love the plant idea. Do you mind sharing?
Euwon - The favors are easy peasy! We just ordered a bunch of mini succulents. Blush Botanicals was really, really awesome and ordered all of our succulents for us. I made little flags (one yellow with the guests name and one white with the table number) and attached them to toothpicks to stick into the pots. Another idea (that I wish I had done!) is to wrap the pots in coordinating paper or paint them in your colors. Hope that helps!
