Hawaii Destination Wedding by Sarah Rhoads Photographers

We’ve seen our fill of destination weddings in the land of palm trees, coconuts and aqua colored ocean and they always deliver dreamy to the dreamiest degree. But I don’t know if we’ve ever seen Hawaii quite like this – whimsical and vibrant. This is a destination wedding that only Sarah and Chris Rhoads of Sarah Rhoads Photographers could capture so perfectly. Believe me, we are crazy for details around these parts and there are plenty of fabulous bits and bobbles in this wedding but what we’re really going bananas for are the images of the lovely couple in the wilds of Hawaii. GORGEOUS! See all the pretty flowers, all the fabulous views and a boatload of pretty in the gallery.

From Sarah Rhoads Photographers… Julie & Andy got hitched on the Big Island of Hawaii where the groom, Andy is originally from. These two live in Seattle, WA and Andy plays bass for musician Dave Bazan and Julie is a photographer. These two had a gorgeous destination wedding with friends and family from far and wide. Julie & Andy had a beautiful event that was a perfect and honest reflection of them. The pallet was bright and airy and full of whimsy and charm. They incorporated beautiful paper DIY details that Julie and her family lovingly built from nothing. It was amazing to see it all come together. When Julie walked in the room to see what it looked like for the first time her eyes welled up with tears because she was so overwhelmed by how much love and affection her family and friends had put into making their wedding so special. These two really valued all of the personalized and creative elements of their day and all of the beautiful people that traveled from all over to celebrate with them.

Gorgeous wedding! Any idea where the tissue paper honeycomb fans/pomettes were purchased?

  14. julie fitts says:

Liset, the honeycombs and parasols were purchased from http://www.lunabazaar.com/

  15. Thanks for featuring Julie & Andy's wedding! I loved this wedding so much! Julie was so fun to work with, styling such a fun, bright wedding! I'm sure she got tired of my constant emails, asking if it was okay to do this or that. She was open to everything! If you're planning a destination wedding shipping things can be tricky and expensive, so prepare for that.

Paper flowers: http://www.hostessblog.com/2010/01/diy-tutorial-eco-chic-bouquet-alternative/ . If you want to make any paper look vintage and worn, just wipe balsamic vinegar over and let it dry. I did it to a few maps and then went to my local Kinko's and made copies because AAA would only give me so many maps.
Sarah & Chris did an amazing job capturing the love between these two beautiful souls!!

  17. The parasols and paper honeycomb style flowers are from http://lunabazar.com/

  24. Kate says:

That dress is phenomenal.. I was forced to track it down on the Sarah Seven website, but it's shown there as a cocktail length. Did you have it lengthened by the designer? You looked BEAUTIFUL - by the way :)

  25. julie fitts says:

    thanks Kate!
It was a custom dress by Sarah Seven. I combined a few different elements from two different dresses. It had one strap across the chest but I later decided that it looked better without.

  26. katrina says:

Hey Julie, I am making those yarn balls for my wedding too! What combination of things did you use ask the past for the yarn?

  27. julie fitts says:

    katrina,

we mixed elmers school glue, water and and corn starch in a blender until it was runny. it's definitely a 2 person job and kind of tricky. you don't want too much glue on the yarn or it shows and is flaky, but you don't want too little or it won't stay firm. definitely allow yourself a few practice tries. good luck :)

  28. katrina says:

Thanks Julie, I have done a few tries but i havent used cornstarch yet, i will try that! Thanks!

  29. Very professional wedding photographer, did you have any wedding videographer we can watch the wedding video?

  30. Ann says:

This is a wonderful wedding. The bride is gorgeous and the background is perfect. If you are a nature lover, you will surely in love with the place..
