New York City Rooftop Wedding by KT Merry Photography

February 1st. 2011 by Erin | Filed Under | 38 comments

New York City plays host to some of the most drop-dead gorgeous weddings we come across and when those weddings are held on the rooftop of the Gramercy Park Hotel, lets just say it is a full on swoonfest up in here. This complete dream of a day was photographed beautifully by KT Merry and the gorgeous doesn’t stop there. It is woven through the fabulous flowers by Saipua and in the glamorous J. Mendel wedding gown and on into the gallery where there are a ton of lovely details to pore over.

There is something about a gorgeous New York City wedding that makes everyone’s heart do a little flip. Perhaps it’s the timeless feel of the city, the excitement that floats through the New York air, or the facts that it is the fashion capital and simply romantic. Pola and Oliver, both originally from Germany, fell for New York’s charm many years ago.

Their ceremony took place at the architecturally grand St. Paul’s chapel of Columbia University and featured a gospel choir that sang from the chapel’s balcony. After an exit with cheering family and friends the couple chose a NYC Taxi Cab to drive them from their ceremony to the Gramercy Park Hotel, which can only be described as True Blood meets European flair. The exclusive venue played host to their rooftop terrace reception and cocktail hour 16 floors above the city boosting amazing views. The cocktail hour was chic romantic with the amazing Bon Musique singing in French under hundreds of light bulbs. Pola and Oliver shared an intimate dinner with their guests and enjoyed speeches in English and German before dancing the night away under the stars and enjoying cupcakes from Crumbs Bake Shop. The entire affair was elegant and so perfectly New York.

Ohhhhhhhhhh. There's almost too much good stuff here to comment on. Anybody that knows me knows I have a daily love affair with Badgley Mischka shoes and these are perhaps my favorite. Every single flower arrangement is beautiful, the table set up is top notch, and the back drop...what can you even say about NYC?! Plus, that dress is sheer perfection. All in all I'd say this wedding is OK. ;) Ha! Congrats to the new husband and wife!

Shooting the bouquet leaned against the curve on the green couch was genius. Well done, KT Merry. Very well done.

Thank you so much for all the lovely comments! It was a truly unforgettable & magical day for us – we had the perfect team and I couldn’t have asked for a better photographer that captured every moment so beautifully – my mum is still in tears every time she looks through the images.
Make up & hair lasted all-night despite heavy dancing and the flower arrangements were exactly as I imagined (I probably drove Sarah a little crazy sometimes with instructions :) ) & I would not change a bit if I could do it all over .Oliver & I had so much fun to put it all together and I am now actually planning a wedding for a friend of a friend who saw these images and I couldn’t be more happy to go through all the planning & details again!
Thanks to KT & Chad, Sarah, Robin & Raymond (GPH) Sofia & Alesha, Traci (Bergdorf Goodman) for making this day just perfect!

    Below a little info:
Bracelet - Oscar de la Renta Spring 2011 collection - it should now be available at any boutique that carries OdlR bridal – there are so many adorable pieces in the spring 11 accessories collection!
    Earrings – Vintage (www. kentshire.com)
The woven clutch + a little sparkle is from Sondra Roberts
Shoes – Badgley Mischka + 4 ½” heels – my husband is 6’8’ so the extra ‘omph ‘was desperately needed… also beautiful in rose.
Invitations, place cards, seating chart.. made by ourselves

    Looks amazing! Flowers are insane!

Pola if you still check this post - how was the food at GPH? I'm looking to book my wedding there but am not local to do a tasting.

    Hi,
Thank you for you posting! the food was good - however I recommend you to tell them to not to salt it too much - the restaurant Maialino is now responsible for catering the events on the rooftop. I had been there to the opening and it was all oversalted.
One item I have to tell you though is that the event planner who was working there at the time has left - she was an amazing person and seemed to be the only one really in charge (our wedding was her last day of work). We had brunch the next morning with all guests from Europe and nothing was done - my husband and I ended up serving coffee and toasting bagels ourselves...
Management has changed or is currently in the state of changing - since Ian Schrager management is out...so I dont know what addtl. changes will come with it.
When are you planning to get wed and how many people?

I am in NYC and would be more than happy to help you out with anything - if you have any additional questions - please feel free to email me: p_bamberg@hotmail.com

What a great dress. You don't see J. Mendel gowns that often, they are very exclusive and I don't think that they are available outside of NYC, either at Bergdorf's or Mark Ingram.
