We are so, so unbelievably excited to share this next wedding with you but be forewarned that it is REALLY GOOD. Like take your breath away kind of GOOD. It is Parisian meets vintage Hawaii as seen through the lens of of one of our favorite photographers, Jose Villa. Now add the rockstar of gorgeous design and styling, Beth Helmstetter, into the mix and we have ourselves an all out pretty party. Oh happy, happy day. Enjoy the fabulous Maui views and we will be back a bit later with even more from this fab fête.

A bit about the day…
Stella and Peter’s Parisian meets Old Hawaii inspired destination wedding weekend was definitely a highlight of the year for us. With Stella living in Hong Kong, we did our best to bridge the distance by working hand in hand with her on designing a day that was sweet, understated and charming, just like her. We started off by invited guests with custom Laura Hooper invitations with a whimsical but sophisticated design which had an occasional butterfly moment to let guests know they should prepare themselves for not only a lovely and approachable weekend but also one that was bound to be a ton of fun!
The first day of celebration included Stella and Peter taking their guests on a Sunset Sail on the Pacific Ocean so guests could relax in true Aloha style. Local beers, Mai Tais and Pacific Rim pupus were on the menu for the evening while guests took in one of the best sunsets they’ve ever experienced.
For the wedding day, Stella wanted a soft palette that was still a little fun, so we worked with paler shades of what I would consider candy colors including blush pink, peach, lavender, pale aqua and an occasional touch of soft greens and butters in there as needed. To help create her soft and much tamed down vintage Hawaii look we found what I believe to be one of the most beautiful venues on earth, Haiku Mill. Visiting this venue is almost a spiritual experience. What used to be sugar mill ruins only years before, is now glorious with it’s vintage fixtures, original cobblestone floors and walls and attention to detail like no other venue. We all felt very lucky to be holding and hosting an event there.
Sit tight ladies and gents because we have a ton more gorgeous where this came from. Coming up later is a Maui Reception that dreams are made of…

That dress is BEAUTIFUL!
GORGEOUS!!! I love the dress and the whole color palatte- very romantic, whimsical and special. I'll be looking back here for more inspiration:)
Gorgeous!!! where are the bridesmaids dresses from?
I can't believe that is Maui! The whole look is so soft and romantic - not the typical bight color, tropical look that is so often done on the islands. I love it!
Wow!! stunning work Jose! I love the Sugar Mill in Maui and you made it even more beautiful!
so beautiful and sweet. I adore the overall softness of this wedding.

So so pretty.
I love Jose Villa. His images are also so soft, so romantic, so perfectly timeless and simple. Ah a breath of fresh air!
Absolutely stunning. Jose is my favorite too. I adore all the little details, the adorable headbands, the variety of bridesmaids bouquets and the light, that gorgeous Jose light :)
This is gorgeous! I love the soft colors and that dress is amazing!

I love the flower girl's wreaths and all the florals! <3 this wedding
The couple looks amazing in the pictures and Stella a bridal shawl from Yours Elegantly an online wedding shawl site with delicate custom hand painting would have been grand. Bridesmaids shawls are 70% off too. Tell your friends they'll thank you. Part of proceeds donated to welfare organizations.
i would love to know where the bridesmaids dresses are from as well! Beautiful hair, dress, colors!!
Haiku Mill is one of the top, if not THE top, venue for any kind of celebration on Maui. Absolutely fantastic!
so in love with that wedding dress!!! and the soft colors
Gorgeous wedding! Will you please let me know where the tie is from? That is the exact color I'm planning for my September wedding. Also, please spill...where did you get the bridesmaid dresses?
What a lovely wedding! I am wondering where your bridesmaid got her gorgeous large pearl and crystal earrings... I would love to know! Congrats!
Thanks everyone for your kind comments! I love this website and it's so much fun to see our wedding featured here :)
Arline, Daizyson and Anna: the bridesmaid dresses are from Vera Wang Maids. when i ordered my wedding dress, VW also extended a 15% discount on the bridesmaid dresses so they work out to be ~$200 each. great deal!
Rcaris: Alice's earrings are from a little shop called Lane's Boutique in Hong Kong. I'm asking her to check the brand for you.
Sharon and Anna: Peter's tux and tie are from Gucci.
Hi Rcaris, the earrings are by a French brand called Jacques Fath, I found an independent online accessories store that carries their stuff: http://shopatsophiescloset.com/search_results.aspx?search=Jacques%20Fath
There are tons of super cute stuff on that site. happy shopping!
Not everyone could pull off this gown, but this bride looks amazing in it! It matches so perfectly with every detail of the wedding. Just beautiful!
Thanks so much for answering us Stella!
Stunning Stella! Your wedding was simply beautiful! Well since I'm getting married at the Haiku Mill this fall and I wanted to know if you would be able to give any tips, recommendations on vendors, lodging etc... Anything that you think a bride would need to know. Thank you in advance! ~Amanda
Hi Amanda, thanks for your comment and congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Very excited for you. happy to help, here's a first attempt at your questions
1) on vendors: are you leaning towards hiring your team from hawaii or the mainland? i have done some research on vendors both from the island and LA and am happy to email my short list to you if interested
2) lodging: unfortunately as you're aware, the Mill isn't close to any major hotel complexes :( I thought the Haiku Plantation Inn was so charming, but it only fits a very small group of people. we placed most of our guests at Kapalua Villas, which we thought were good value for money if you get the group rate, but the downside is Kapalua is a long drive from the Mill... i have a list of other accommodations options we checked out as well if you'd like to have it, let me know
top tip(s).... enjoy the planning process, hire a good planner to help if you have the budget for it and get the best photographer you can afford to capture your big day! i still smile everytime i look at our wedding photos :)
good luck!
stella
Hi Stella!
Thank you so much for replying back to my questions! Yes I would absolutely love if I could get your ideas on vendors (as I really don’t have any preferences at this point with regards to mainland vs. Hawaii) and all the choices are mind boggling!
I’m about to send out my save the dates and finish up my website and wanted to list at least 3 hotel options & some activities for my guests on it. I’m expecting around 50. I’ve looked at the Paia boutique hotel but it is too small to accommodate my guests needs and since most of them will be staying the better part of a week or so, they don’t mind driving to the Mill for the ceremony & reception.
I took your advice and I’m looking for a photographer that shoots film and except most of my budget to be focused on that. I’ve received a few quotes, some from the island (who will shoot half digital and half film) and another from the mainland. I did email back and forth with Jose Villa but he was booked on the date I needed him.
I’m advance I appreciate your kindness in sharing advice to help me plan my wedding in Maui!
Kind regards,
Amanda
