Los Barriles Destination Wedding by Jose Villa

January 13th. 2011 by Erin | Filed Under | 37 comments

We’ve got a feeling that today is going to be a really, really good day on Style Me Pretty. Our favorite photographer extraordinaire, Jose Villa, has sent TWO blissful weddings our way and our jaws literally had to be picked up off the ground when we first laid eyes on the goods. So grab a comfy seat, hunker down and prepare for a full day of JOSE.

First up is a dreamy destination wedding held on the beaches of Los Barriles, Mexico. The bride (who happens to be one of our favorite fashion and design bloggers) took a classic, less is more approach to all the gorgeous details and they couldn’t be a more perfect mix with the sunny locale and Jose Villa’s eye for the best photographs. Plus, we are major suckers for a great pair of sparkly shoes. Be sure to stop by the gallery for more of the good stuff and we’ll be back in a bit with another heartbreakingly beautiful day. Seriously, does it get any better?

there is eve more of this drop dead gorgeous affair right here!

It’s often said girls spend their lives dreaming about their wedding. Well, if that’s true, I guess I broke the mold. I barely given a single thought to what I’d want my wedding to be like until I found myself staring at my (then) boyfriend on bended knee proposing (at homeplate of my favorite team the Seattle Mariners no less). Amazingly, everything fell into place very quickly though. We knew we wanted simple, low key and meaningful with side of warm, beach and tequila thrown in for good measure! A family-favorite getaway destination in Mexico proved to be the perfect spot for what turned out to be a truly perfect day (and I can still say it was perfect despite power outages, no running water and crazy wind!). Among immediate family and our closet friends, we exchanged vows, ate the most amazing food and threw a party I know we, and I hope our guests, will never forget.

To plan, I pulled in every resource I could think of – I would have been completely lost without the world of wedding blogs like SMP – to plan a long distance wedding, in a remote location, in country who’s language I do not speak! I had help from so many amazing people, my brother the Spanish-translator, destination planning extraordinaire Alison Hotchkiss of Alison Events, uber-talented Etsy designers, my dearest girlfriends, my invitation designers and of course my beloved photographer extraordinaire, Jose Villa, who captured everything more beautifully than I ever could have hoped. For the girl who’d never put a lot of thought into weddings, the whole process turned out better than I ever might have dreamed.

Photography: Jose Villa / Invitation suite: Brown Sugar Design / Calligraphy: Grace Edmands and menus by Primele on Etsy / Gift bags, signs and other decor: All DIY / Wedding Dress: Robert Bullock / Shoes: Christian Louboutin / Jewelry: Badgley Mischka / Hair & Make-up: Self + girlfriends / Pompoms: Party Poms on Etsy / Napkins: Country Life Naturals on Etsy / Catering: Local Baja restaurant Campestre Trini / Location: Casa Baha Sonadora Los Barriles, Mexico / Ring Bowls: Paloma’s Nest

Destination beach wedding PERFECTION. Los Barriles is a place that really never gets any recognition as it's pretty remote. But it is soooo tranquil and pretty there. What an amazing wedding.

I am looking for this Robert Bullock gown! If the bride is reading, are you looking to sell it? :) It's so lovely, and you look incredible.

Hi all - bride here! thanks so smuch for all the sweet comments! Our wedding turned out better than I could have ever dreamed - even with the galeforce winds (you can't tell from the photos but it was crazy!) Lori, we actually stayed and held all of our wedding festivities at a private beach house we found on VRBO. Search Los Barielles to find it. And our canvas gift bags we had custom made through a local printing company in Seattle. The map on them came from our wedding invitation - we wanted to create something that was both wedding favor/souvenir. We filled the bags with local treats like Coke with real sugar, chips, salas, Mexican chocolate, sunscreen and bottled water. As for my dress, - you might still be able to find it though it was from the 2009 collection. I might sell it someday but I'm not ready to part with it yet. I might shorten it!

PS Erin...you were a stunning bride! Can you tell us a bit more about those mini burlap bags that are pictured?! They are ridiculously cute! I have so many ideas for things I could do with them!!!

Aw shucks, everyone is making me blush! I'm going to be doing some more detailed explanation of planning, details, etc over th next couple of weeks on Apartment 34, but we brought the burlap bags, which I think we found at a fabric store without a specific use and then our wedding day ended up being so windy, we filled them with sand and black beans and used them to hold things down! We also used them to cover vases and glasses tied with rafia for a little added texture and natural touch.

Hello I wonder if you could help me please. I LOVE the luggage label menu cards. I've been in touch with your calligrapher but so far she hasn't been able to tell me where they came from.

I would be so grateful if you could tell me where you got them from please. Thank you

Hi Vincent! We had our menu cards custom made by a Etsy calligrapher, Primele. We gave her our menu, in Spanish (!), and she did a double sized menu for us! We were thrilled.

    Erin,
I am so happy to come across your wedding! I am coincidentally renting the EXACT same house in los barriles for my wedding in December and would absolutely LOVE to get some information from you. We too just want something casual and simple, but my questions to you are:
    1. how many guest did you have at the wedding? Did everyone stay at the home or where else would you recommend for guests to stay?
    2. Where did you rent the tables/chairs/linens/glasses?
    3. How was the restaurant that catered your wedding? Did you have them bartend, or did you hire elsewhere?
Thank you, I would really appreciate any other tips you have as well. Please email me at devikamaskey@gmail.com
And by the way you looked stunning...LOVE your dress!!

Erin! Gorgeous wedding! I'm actually planning a wedding near Los Barriles at my family's place in Spa Buena Vista (just south of town) in November. Did you use a wedding planner? If so, can I have the info? I'm just starting the planning and finding putting the pieces together from another country a little daunting. Here's my email: cjohnson01@gmail.com

    Thanks!!
