Mark and I met and were married within one year! We met through friends and then went to a Charlotte Checkers hockey game for our first date together. He made me laugh and I made him nervous. Even though it took him twelve days to call me for a second date, it was worth it. After just a few months, we were in love. For both of us, that was our first time using those words so we knew we were headed toward marriage! A short while longer, we began talking about the idea of marriage and we soon were engaged.

From day one of being engaged, we wanted to focus on building a strong marriage, not just planning a beautiful wedding. Our engagement was only 10 weeks long but we managed to pull off a DIY wedding that was perfect for us! From gathering branches for centerpieces out of the backyard to cutting tree stumps for a cake stand, the wedding was a perfect blend of vintage, organic charm. My florist made a great suggestion for some of our centerpieces as well – we filled Ikea lanterns with real artichokes, cut out the center and placed a candle inside.

Our wedding reception even made it’s way onto youtube – 3 of my best friends planned a flashmob without Mark or I knowing. This was a dream come true for me, I have dreamed about something like this ever since I was a little girl, I love to dance even if I am the only one on the dance floor. What made it even better was my friend who fell at the beginning of the dance, hilarious!

Absolutely beautiful. I am so using the artichoke candle idea. I think I can use with other fruits and vegetables for different themes, too. Oh, and the twigs with the little tea lights hanging, definitely using with my winter birthday party idea I am working on right now. Thanks.

I love how the barn is dressed up with the draping fabric -- so rustic and romantic!

Transki - I used that frame among 2 others (mis-matching) to display our seating chart. We probably got them somewhere like Michaels or Hobby Lobby. I have had it for over 5 years, it was something I took off my own wall for the wedding and the other frames I borrowed from a friend off of their wall as well. It's amazing what you can find in your own family room to decorate your wedding with...the style of your wedding will more than likely mimic your personal house decorating style.

Ashley, you had such a beautiful wedding! love it! Can you share with us the idea you did with the jars labeled "honeymoon" and "anniversary"? It looks extremely creative. Thank you!

What type of fabric did you use to drape the barn and where did you get it? I'm trying to do something similar with a pavilion but am having trouble finding the right kind/size. Thanks!

omg the flash mob video is hysterical, especially when the one chick falls right at the beginning lol! but WHY was the bride wearing a fleece?? if she was cold, what about a pretty cardigan or the white wrap she's seen wearing in a pic above? the fleece does not exactly compliment her beautiful dress! other than that, gorgeous wedding :)

Can I please have the guest list so I can invite this fun crowd to my next party? The details are gorgeous. The fabric draped barn is perfect. I love the artichoke candle idea. The photography captures so much fun and emotion.

Danielle - the jars were labeled "1st anniversary" and "honeymoon" and the idea was that guests could write a personal note and place it in either jar for the bride and groom to read at each occasion. We read the notes for the honeymoon and they were sweet and silly, can't wait to read the notes for our first anniversary, hopefully we'll remember where we put them!

Keriann - the fabric is simply curtains from Ikea, the cheapest ones they had were around $4 so I bought about 4 panels, cheap and easy!

Jamie - I am admit that the fleece was not so classy but I was FREEZING and I am very practical! My amazing photographer eventual told me to take it off because I was ruining the pictures but the heaters inside the tent weren't working as well as we imagined. It's something we laugh about now.

Ashley - Well, i could definitely tell you're one laid back chica, in fact you remind me of many of my friends who would also very easily wear a fleece at their own wedding lol! it's just that you looked SO pretty in that dress i was like, omg why is she covering that up?? but honestly i don't blame you :)

Ashley- I am really thinking about having my wedding at this location as well. Any advice? I love barns, anything country, and WE will be drinking out of Mason Jars. Is Armin's reasonable? Thanks!!

Kelly - Armin's is reasonable and the food is pretty good. They seem to get a lot of business and seem a little unorganized so keep track and make sure your vision of what you want is followed through with. We had our disappointments but in the end, we're married and loving it so who cares!

    Kara -

Wedding dress shoes are crazy to find! I looked in every department store and everywhere on-line. I ended up getting the heals from DSW (Liz Claiborne) and the flats from Steve Madden. My heels got so dirty from walking around outside so much that I threw them away so I was very glad that I didn't pay much for them.

Maria - my dress, believe it or not is from David's Bridal... such a deal! It's called the Micado Gown with ruffle back - http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Mikado-Silk-Gown-with-Ruffle-Back-T9938 - I paid less than $500 for it and have already sold it on-line to a very happy bride to be!
