Nashville, Tennessee Wedding at Cedarwood

September 13th. 2010 by Abby Larson | Filed Under | 59 comments

My love for all things Tennessee has found a happy little home in this adorable wedding sent to us by Cedarwood. The pure beauty of the outdoor church, the abundance of handmade details, the loveliest shade of grey bridesmaid dresses, all come together perfectly for an event that is swoon freaking central. Photographed by Leslee Mitchell, this day is total eye candy for all of you nature lovers or DIY’ers or anyone that just loves a perfectly sweet wedding. What do you do when you love the outdoors but want to get married in a church? You bring the church outdoors! That’s exactly what Cedarwood, an all-inclusive historic venue in Nashville, Tennessee does when they create their stunning Outdoor Cathedral. Ten foot Gothic church windows and antique carved solid Oak church pews set in a green summer meadow is a site to make anyone pause at the beauty of God’s handiwork.

Ivory and butter-cream flowers with pops of golden yellow in vintage blue mason jars juxtaposed with mercury glass and bejeweled votive holders for a country feel with designer flair. The grounds of Cedarwood are both a photographer’s dream and challenge (so many spaces for creative shots!) but the talented Leslee Mitchell was up to the task. Photos of Megan and Bret in the vintage glider, a bicycle for two, and Cedarwood barn are among our favorite wedding day portraits. Leslee even managed to catch a shot of bird houses by the property’s vintage Airstream — a decor theme complimented with Megan’s bird house ‘churches’ that adorned the program table and stone wall.

Instead of a traditional guest book, Megan had friends take Polaroid photos of arriving guests and invited them to leave comments in a wedding photo album. Framed family photos carried out the photo welcome theme, and even included a framed original of Megan’s great grand parents Germany marriage certificate – from 1904!

I'm absolutely loving all these wonderful comments. I'm Megan the designer and bride of this wedding!!

Caitlyn, love the colors! and Megan: The bridesmaids dresses are actually from dessy.com. They have an amazing selection of dresses. The color is 'taupe' although its more of a grey with a slight lilac undertone than a traditional taupe.

Heidi Boeckmann: The pillows I actually handmade. I do sell them, I have a FB page "Jubilation Creations" where you can check out more items I have, everything I do is customizable. Feel free to email me at JubilationCreations@gmail.com I would LOVE to hear from you!!!

Thank you again for all the comments!!!

    Megan,

LOVE all the details!!! I am especially in love with those bridesmaid dresses :) I've looked on the Dessy site, but can't seem to find which ones you used...do you mind providing the style numbers? My best friend is getting married next April and she specifically sent me the site saying how much she absolutely loved them....she's had trouble finding something she loves!

    Thanks a ton :)

Sure thing!! They are: After Six Bridesmaid Style 6524; Dessy Bridesmaid Style 2787; and After Six Bridesmaid Style 6585. They should all be there on the dessy.com site! Hope this helps!!

    Love this wedding!

My fiance got incredibly excited when he saw corn hole boards... was the "XOXO" pattern a stencil or applique, or were the boards painted by hand?

I'm not sure I can make excuses anymore for my attempt to ban corn hole... not when it's this cute :)

Wow, this is so cool! I'm the groom's aunt and we attended this gorgeous wedding. The venue and all was beautiful, but it was Megan's and her parent's special touches that made it so awesome. And Leslee's photography....well, it speaks for itself.

  32. Megan Wiedenhoeft
    September 14, 2010 at 9:18 am

    Christine,

Cornhole is so much fun!!! I actually made the boards with the help of my husband and I handpainted them as well. I found a "template" of the lettering I love and painted it as close as possible on the boards by hand. I'm happy to sell you a set if you want. I can really do anything as long as it's not trademarked. Thanks for your comments!

    Hi Megan,

Congratulations! Loved seeing your pictures and so impressed by your creativity! Im collecting blue Mason/Ball jars to give the same effect you did, but cant seem to find near as many as I need! Do you have a resource suggestion?

I LOVE the blue and grey progams...did you make them? If not where did you get them? The heat with different words for love is adorable! My sister is thinking of doing blue and grey for her wedding and after seeing these I think it is a must :) Amazing wedding and love the the DIY.

Nicole and Ashley: I actually handmade these programs myself. if you email me I will put together a DIY or I would be happy to make them for your sister's wedding Ashley. Just let me know. My email is listed above in a comment I posted earlier.

Carol: I actually don't know where they are from, Cedarwood has an amazing work room that has tons of knick knacks and these were some of them! I would suggest flea markets, estate sales or even antique stores. I know I've seen several in local antique stores around town.

Alissa: Are you referring to my bridal shoes or the bridesmaids shoes?? Mine are by Nina and are from a dept store and the bridesmaids shoes are by Steve Madden and I found them at DSW, unfortunately I actually snagged the last pairs in the state of TN when I purchased them, I had to go to 3 different stores to find them!!

GORGEOUS Ceremony Set up! I LOVE the windows and church pews!!! I too am having an outdoor ceremony, and was hoping for some ways to incorporate a church feel! I wanted to somehow hang a large stained glass window behind us, but I love the set up you had at Cedar Wood!

Were the church pews from a rental company? Also- where did those amazing window structures come from?

Thanks for sharing!!! And Congrats!! :D -Andrea

    Andrea,

Thank you so much! The church pews and windows actually come as an exclusive upgrade package at Cedarwood. They are truly amazing and one of the main reasons that I chose Cedarwood as my venue. You sound like you're on a great track though and I'm sure with a cool rigging using metal or wood you could come up with a great way to display the stained glass windows!
