Chicago Wedding with DIY Details

I kind of want to marry this next little wedding. It’s so charming, so filled-to-the-brim with personality, I can hardly stand it. From the PING PONG TABLE (yep, I put that in all caps because I am seriously obsessed with this idea…not to mention, I can play a mean game of ping pong) to the sweet, simple flowers and the gorgeous gown the bride is rocking with the best of ‘em. All in all, this is an SMP wedding right out of my dreams.

Therese and Dan put their personal stamp on their event and incorporated a lot of their personalities! Therese, a schoolteacher used chalkboards as signage. An artistic friend gave them portraits as a wedding gift which were displayed on the entrance table. Since the groom is a musician, they created a “His & Hers” mix for all their guests as a favor.

After exchanging vows in front of friends, family and honorary groomsman “Oskar” – their cute little pooch, guests enjoyed signature lemonades and mojitos on the patio while enjoying something one of the bride and groom’s favorites… ping pong! Leave it to Therese to paint the table yellow so it went with her design theme!

To give the gallery-like space a warm vintage touch, Kelly from Fleur collected vintage milk glass containers to showcase the centerpieces of peony, ranunculus, billy balls and summer accents. Anchoring the look were runners cut from wallpaper strips featuring the brides signature shade of gold. Sprigs of rosemary tucked into the menus and a collection of mercury glass votives finished the look for the long feasting tables.

Guests enjoyed a 4 course sit down meal by Berghoff starting with a beet tower with sweet corn bisque appetizer course. Guests enjoyed sweets supplied by the bride’s aunt for dessert as well as the big surprise: Coldstone ice cream brought in all the fixings for a make it yourself ice cream station. Guests danced the night away to tunes spun by Toast and Jam DJ’s of Chicago and enjoyed their photo booth by Magbooths.

I love this wedding - so lovely! Congrats to the cute and super stylish bride and groom! I'm getting married soon and am trying to nail down our remaining details. Our wedding will have lots of yellow and grey details, so this wedding is really inspiring!

Could you let me know where you got your groom's tie, the wallpaper runner (and design # or name), and that giant chalkboard? I might just have to borrow a few ideas :)

Really lovely wedding. Seems like it was intimate and really just about getting together and celebrating.

One question, who is the dress by? I really like it and am looking for something similar.

    Thanks and congrats!!

I was wondering where the couple got the sketched portraits? We are having our reception at an old art gallery with huge white walls meant for artwork - these would be perfect! Thanks!

Thanks SO much for the sweet comments!!! We had so much fun planning our big day with mush inspiration due to SMP! My dress is a Monique Lhuillier, called Atellier(the best dress imaginable for twirling!). The wallpaper that we used for the runners as well as the mats for our portraits was from Anthropologie. All of the chalkboards were pieces of wood painted with chalkboard paint. The ties are from Express( you would not believe how hard it was to find a good yellow tie...ugh!). The portraits were painted by the lovely Katie Middleton(who just got hitched June 5th- woohoo!). Here's her amazing website: http://thenaivetree.com/home.html . If you're interested in my husband's band, Sleeping At Last, check them out here: http://web.sleepingatlast.com/music-lyrics/ you could say he puts the 'band' in husBAND! Thanks again and happy planning! :)
