This styled shoot was inspired by a French flair and intended to showcase a classical nod to a modern bridal shower. The bride–Gabrielle Marie Surrie–has been made lifelong friends during childhood, so she decided to host a small party celebrating their friendship and upcoming wedding. The shower was intended to spoil her friends, so after they signed the guest book, they were invited to adorn themselves with jewelry and hairpieces at a Adorn Yourself station, complete with feathers, jewels, and all things sparkly. The girls then dined on decadent sweets, complete with chocolate chip ice cream, tarts, and macaroons, amongst many other sugary sweets. Gabrielle then invited her friends to feast on cake and pink champagne as they toast life, love, and laughter. After–just before opening gifts–they were invited to the Mixology station, where girls mixed their own perfume as keepsakes. The ladies then ventured into the garden for gift opening and festivities to celebrate Gabrielle’s upcoming marriage.

  20. chandra says:

Thanks for featuring the shoot! Everyone worked so hard and it is great to see it featured on SMP! It originated from a vintage Chanel inspiration board that I designed on SMP's Style Circle! I feel lucky to have contributed a small amount to the amazing work and talent that all of the other ladies brought, especially Jaclyne of Heavenly Blooms, and of course, Jasmine Star!

  21. Zsuzsa says:

Oh, my God! Beautiful, but...... HOW MUCH MONEY DID SHE SPEND ON IT??????????? Surly 2-3 years of my salary. Minimum.
These wedding on this website are truly amazing, how do you have a fortune to spend on it? Everybody is super-mega-rich?

    love!! xx

  27. jessica says:

do you happen to know what company that ribbon is from? i absolutely love it and want to use it for my wedding invitation!

  28. Lex Cut says:

I certainly love the idea! So chic and French inspired, above all! The ideas incorporated is just lovely.

  29. Wow stunning pictures, everyone look amazing!! lovely details and lovely bride!! xx

  30. I am absolutely in LURVE with this! I'm really into Paris-inspired themes and this is just absolutely stunning. Me = drooling over all the pink and chanel (and the desserts too)! It looks a little on the pricey side, though...do you think a little DIY could make a bridal shower like this more affordable?

  31. This shoot is TOTALLY me! I worked with in the Now back in 2007 when we were both just starting out and Amanda and her crew could not be more awesome. I am not surprised at all that she churned out such a sophisticated display for this. Richard Nixon Library is also just down the road from where I grew up... if I were going to go the big wedding route, I mostly definitely would have planned to do my wedding there. It actually WAS the plan until very recently. It's a beautiful venue. How do you get your paws on a venue like that for just an inspiration shoot?

  32. You know, I've been hearing that complaint A LOT lately- about these inspiration shoots and the weddings featured on these blogs being really expensive and although pretty to look at, not helpful to the everyday bride... I've heard that comment many many times from my own brides, as well as reading the comments above... and I think it's a good point. I know this isn't a DIY blog, but some affordable inspiration set ups would be so appreciated I think by all of us...

  33. WOW! Amazing! I want to throw a party "just because" with this theme! I love France! For those people that want to "pamper" themselves...this is perfect! Even for those on a budget this brings great inspiration....If all the girls pitched in for the event or instead of using Chanel use a different perfume bottle, etc. There are tons of ways to make it just as gorgeous! Great job on this!

  34. Nessa B. says:

    The dress is just gorgeous!!!

  35. Zsuzsa says:

I complety agree with Emily. This particular post is just too posh. It is not over the top, it is OVER-OVER-OVER-OVER-OVER the top. I am not against richness, but it is somehow disguisting. It is not about pampering her friends, it is about "look, how rich am I, I can afford this and this and yes, even this". Or do you all think it is normal and delicate and stilish when literally Chanel parfumes flow like water???
And we normal people never in this life could do something like 10 percent of it. It is not even the "look, how beautiful"-effect, it is "oh, my God, she thinks she is God and trats us normal people like shit".

We have no money for it, just take me: 28 years, have a degrre in law and earn 555 USD a MONTH!!! This is reality, not that.

  36. Hi Zsuzsa,

How funny that you think this is so over the top! I understand that it does come off quite lavish but the actual expense was not terrible. If you consider the item rental, dessert buffet [instead of actual savory food] and the fact that creating your own perfume is actually quite cost-effective, it's not bad at all! The idea was never to be unrealistic [though, I wasn't purposefully creating anything terribly realistic either]- but most is fairly easy DIY. :) Hope that you enjoyed the pictures, and I feel terribly that it made you feel anything negative about your own life!

    xoxo,

    A.

  37. Thank you so much for this beautiful feature Abby & Erin, it is such an honor to be featured on Style Me Pretty... A lot of love and time went into every detail...xoxo

  38. Emily & Zsuzsa - this shoot was over the top and styled by professionals. It was a dreamy photo shoot, where the only limit was our imaginations. Many of these details and ideas can be used and changed up a bit, making it more affordable if you choose to create it yourselves. There are many, MANY, many DIY websites and blogs out there where you can find more affordable options and tips. I am sorry you feel so badly about this shoot, but it was created out of love for design, style and all things lovely. And the pictures were just meant to be enjoyed, as well as used for inspiration for upcoming weddings and events, not to make anyone feel bad or harbor negative feelings.

By the way, the Chanel perfume flowing in our shoot... really was colored water ; )

    Warmly,

    Jaclyne Breault
    Heavenly Blooms

  39. sarah says:

this is a beautiful inspiration shoot... but even as inspiration, i have to agree that it is WAY WAY WAY over the top. i mean, a $600 dolly couture dress for your bridal shower? i enjoy the sentiment of the shoot, but i really think in this case, it's casual excess overshadows it's loveliness.

  40. Stacy Cordova says:

Love this party!! Where are the macaroons from???

  41. Rebecca says:

While the pictures are gorgeous, I think I have to agree with the others who feel that this bridal shower is WAY over the top, ostentatious and even bordering on obnoxious! And to echo ZsuZsa, after reading the entire post, I actually felt mildly disgusted, something I've NEVER felt after reading an SMP post. Too bad this wasn't simply a photo shoot created solely to inspire rather than a "real life" bridal shower which has left nothing but a bad taste in my mouth!

  42. Chandra says:

Ladies, it isn't a real bridal shower. It specifically states in the post it is a styled shoot. It is "inspiration." If it doesn't inspire you, then don't use ideas from it. This shoot, and I believe this website, is meant to inspire and maybe give you one idea or element that you make your own for your wedding or event. You are certainly not meant to copy it- where is the imagination or creativity in that?

  43. Zsuzsa says:

Oh, girls, thank you for giving such normal responses. I was afraid that when I read this site this morning I will read hate and all the bad things toward me. But thank God, no, and thank you to appreciate my opinion.
Yes, these pictures are wonderful, BUT....you know my view.
Life is hard and it is a pleasure to see, watch, taste, smell some beaty, but it could be too much, and sometimes cross the line.
No, I am not poor, thank God, but do not havet he opportunites for some great things in life, like a car, a holiday....and so on. So, yes, sometimes "lavish poshness" hurts me after so much hard work at my job. Forgive me, if I hurt someone.
Have a nice day, my bearkfast and job are waiting for me!!!!:-) See you soon!

  44. Well, as over the top as the whole wonderful thing might be, I love it! Working with In the Now Weddings + Events was great from start to finish and making the jewels for the shoot was a blast! Thank you for letting me be a part of it...SO MUCH FUN! I hope everyone really will be able to see it as fun and inspriation for ideas...how fun to think of spoiling your dearest friends with so many yummy things! Thank you for the inspiration!

  45. Samantha says:

Bordering on disgusting? Really? A little harsh, don't you think? I'm a little confused as to why some people have taken offense to this shoot. People don't stop living because not everyone can afford to live like they do. Just because I can't afford to have an event so lavish, it doesn't mean that I don't like to live vicariously through it, look at it, enjoy it, heck, even pull some ideas from it to use in my own ways at my own events. For those of us who weren't "hurt" by everyone's precious time, thoughtfulness and attention to all the beautiful details in this photo shoot created to INSPIRE, I will say that this shower is breath-taking, well-photographed and very inspiring! Bravo to all who created such a gorgeous event!

Yeah, life is hard but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy something beautiful every now and then.
A girl can dream, can't she?
If you don't like what you see, then move on. Simply put.

  46. Emma Kean says:

i love the details that i can take and adapt into my own little event, im loving the idea of a adornment section, i have now considered doing one for our wedding, but just lots of little bits i already have, or get from donation places like goodwill, that people can put on for our home made photo booth, we are having a dessert bar instead of bonbonniere, and using the free down load bag on this site, (thankyou SMP!!) desserts and treats being made by my loving family and friends.
I would love to know if anyone knows where those little perfume bottles with atomisers comes from? i live in Australia, but i would love to know if i can get some!! filled with lollies, they look perfect! great also for a ladies high tea, or a teens girlie inspired party, love them!!

I can see that the over the top look can be very frustrating for a budget restricted bride, but i feel these are sometimes the best places' for great inspiration to adapt into or create your own DIY from. and obviously somethings just arent going to be affordable by every one, i could not afford such a lavish event or dolly dress, but i did swoon!!

SMP i think you put on a great mix of affordable and DIY options for brides, plus provide great pics like these of more lavish affairs. either way i love them all. thank you so much for being a great space of inspiration to me for my wedding!! xx

  47. awesome says:

    wats up hi

  48. Elvi says:

I think this shoot is beautiful and full of inspiration. I am bride that loves the details and inspiration shoots like this help me think outside the box and create my own DIY ideas.

  49. Dolly Thicke says:

It probably wont make that much of a difference in opinion, but wanted to point out that our Dolly Couture "Milan" gown featured, is actually priced at just $495. After shipping and possible taxes or whatnot it may be a little closer to $600, but we try to stay affordable.

So honored to be featured. What gorgeous photos! We are so pleased.

  50. sue says:

what a beautiful bridal shower~!!! love all the details and the colors~

  51. Cheyenne says:

I love all of the delicate details of this affair! So pretty and feminine. I am getting married in August and I know my bridal shower is coming up any day now (a not so surprising surprise from my beautiful bridal party). The only part of my shower that I had a hand in was creating my registry, which I used MyRegistry.com for. Has anyone else used this site? They have an iPhone app that I downloaded and was able to scan my product barcodes while shopping in the stores and added the items right to my registry. This was so helpful!

  52. Jamie says:

How divine!! I must remember this for when I get married!!

  53. OMG just found myself singing baby by Justin Bieber. Just shoot me now lol

  54. Erin says:

I adore this idea, and would love help to plan one for my upcoming friend, the bride to be :) would love to be able to have a mixology station and the miniature perfume bottles-- any suggestions?

  55. Tabitha says:

I am planning my niece's wedding and just came acrosss this website and the great channel party. I loved the idea for the mixology station, as we always do a candy table at our partys and i wanted something different. so i googled it and found this idea quite affordable and unique. I am so excited to offer this as one of our favors for the shower and i know the woman will love the experience.

    thanks for inspiring me!!!

  56. Great pictures ! Thx a lot.

    Dorothy.
