Rock and Roll Wedding by Carla Ten Eyck

May 17th. 2010 by Erin | Filed Under | 39 comments

Carla Ten Eyck, one of the most talented photographers around, sent us this next little gem. This wedding has a dash of classic mixed with a tad of rock n’ roll and a stylish bride rocking an amazingly ruffled Betsy Johnson number. Swoon, swoon, swoon. And as if the dress weren’t enough to get your motor running, you should take a gander at those gorgeous blue velvet shoes. Not only is the attire fantastic, but this style savvy couple is also incredibly in love and it shows. Beautiful couple, beautiful day. We love that around here.

Alicia and Jack got married at the Gershon Fox Room in Hartford, Connecticut. All of the images were taken in and around Hartford using the major city landmarks including the Bushnell Park Carousel, the Sailors and Soldiers Memorial Arch, and Bushnell Park.

From the Bride:

The necklace was my great-grandmother’s actually, from the 20s or 30s. My dad’s grandmother, that was my “something borrowed,” and I guess my something old as well.  The shoes are Moschino Cheap & Chic, obviously my “something blue”… I lusted after them for quite some time, and for a while I was way more excited about them than the dress itself, or anything else Bridey for that matter. In the end, the dress did have a special place in my heart though. It is Betsey Johnson. I’ve been obsessed with her work since the first time I had to get a dress for a Bat Mitzvah when I was thirteen. I tried to go thru the motions of going to the bridal shop and trying the dresses and veils but getting married in Betsey was what I secretly pictured all along and the petticoat underneath was my “something old” from a cool vintage shop in LA.

I love that dress and the photography! Is that her wedding ring on the invitation? So non-traditional if so! That silhouette photo is my fave!

Fun pictures. We have an apartment right above San Francisco's Embarcadero where Cupid's Span is located so we get to see lots of wedding parties being photographed there. I like to see some final results of those photos.

The whole wedding took my breath away - those photographs and the wedding feel are just fantastic! I love that the photographer took time to capture all the details and textures (all started by the dress). Also would love to know where her ring hails from too - so unique!

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!! I am so honored to have my wedding featured on SMP and by all of your sweet, flattering compliments & inquiries!! As far as the BETSEY dress...it was from her Spring '09 collection, I had seen it in Modern Bride in fall of '08 and had to do some serious hunting it down, but it was so worth it! She doesn't do an actual bridal line, just does a few white dresses each year, so check with the BJ stores, as they may not be available for purchase on the website. I know mine wasn't.
My ring was inspired by a 20s, Art Deco piece, crafted by Single Stone Jewelers in LA- they specialize in vintage and vintage-inspired jewelry. Great folks, too. Bridesmaids dresses were from David's- their Pewter shade is really fabulous! And lastly, have to give props to my Makeup Artist: Anna of AnnaBriggsPhotography.com... she is a truly gifted artist!
Thank you Carla for your hard work and brilliant talent! We are THRILLED with these pics! xo

i was literally in awe when i saw this. i am a tattooed, raven haired (almost exactly cut the same) girl myself and i have to say i teared up a bit seeing these. i go to so many wedding blogs and there are always features of weddings that just...dont...fit me. they're all beautiful, but its nice to see a short-haired bride whose proud of her tats!

I've been taking a class in the G. Fox building and while I appreciate the beauty of the architecture of the building, it is definitely the beauty of what the building used to be. The building is really quite ugly now. I am not saying this in anyway to offend the bride, but more to pay tribute to the amazing photographer. I was so amazed that the photographer was able to make this place look so beautiful. If I had never been to this building I would have wanted my wedding here in a heartbeat because the photography makes it look like a site to be envied.
