We are delighted to share Marissa and Dean’s beautiful wedding celebration sent to us by Daniela at Bella Signature Design.
This was such a fun wedding for us. Marissa and Dean were obviously in love, and Marissa had a great sense of style. After an exhausting search for venues, and not finding what they felt was really “them” they realized they really just wanted to get married where they live, on little Fox Island, WA. Not many wedding venues there, so they chose the Fox Island Yacht Club, which is pretty outside, but needed a few special touches inside!

Marissa was great at showing me images that captured the essence of what she wanted to create, which was ‘Coastal Northwest’. We created a color palette of “eucalyptus” a silvery/green/blue color, warm grey and accents of burnt orange (to represent the Northwest water, sky, and occasional bursts of sun). Marissa and Dean gathered driftwood that was used in the centerpieces, and built their chuppah themselves out of driftwood pieces.

It was so beautiful and organic in form, all we added was a bit of fabric over the top to “house” them as is tradition, and adorn the corners with some beach grass and a few blooms. We flanked the aisle with old gray benches for guests, and had lanterns with glowing candles next to each bench. The ceremony was outside in a pavilion-like structure. Marissa and Dean made blankets for all their guests, with adorable tags.

The cake was designed with Marissa’s help and had aged wood risers … and edible river tone pebbles, with a succulent on top!

Centerpieces consisted of driftwood pieces, with clusters of roses and succulents … alternated with grasses and metal cubes of roses. We draped the walls and ceiling (to hide the giant ships wheels and emblems)! We designed cool green-blue lighting to backlight the walls and make the room glow almost as if underwater, while the ceiling glowed in a beautiful orange sunset hue.

What an amazing transformation of a space! And the use of driftwood throughout the decor gave such a fresh and natural feeling. Our thanks to MIND|Castle Studios for sharing these beautiful images. Congratulations to Marissa and Dean and a huge thank-you to Bella Signature Design! To see more of their wonderful work, take a peek at their web portfolio.

[...] Moving right along, you should now have your mission statement written and your overall theme determined. It is time to make your vision reality and the first reality checkpoint is finding the perfect setting for your special day. The ceremony and reception venue should obviously compliment your theme and fit your mission statement. If your theme is “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, your guests may be confused to receive an invitation asking for their presence at a ski lodge in mid February. The key is to stay true to your vision, while of course keeping the other major factors in mind such as budget and guest list. This may require some creative thinking outside the box because essentially any location can be transformed, such as this lovely wedding. [...]
