Stylish Manhattan Wedding From Karen Wise

It’s been WAY too long since we’ve featured one of Karen Wise’s weddings on the Little Black Book Blog! So when Tamara & Adam’s Manhattan wedding fell into our box … we were thrilled! Karen shoots all film and she’s seriously, one of the best. Her attention to details, the focus on traditional wedding photography with that extra special oomph that kicks her images up and over the top ~ well … you’ll see! By the end of Tamara & Adam’s feature, we’re sure you’ll agree!

Tamara’s simply perfect wedding gown was designed by Elizabeth Fillmore and Adam’s suit is from Ermenegildo Zegna. Quite the stylish couple!

Karen tells us …Tamara and Adam were married in August 2009 in Fort Tryon Park.  The reception was at The New Leaf Restaurant & Bar.

When asked about their decision to keep the wedding small, this is what Tamara had to say …

We wanted the wedding itself to be a very intimate and casual experience – immediate family and a couple of close friends only. I have been to so many weddings where the bride spent the whole night going from table to table, and had no chance to really enjoy her own wedding. I wanted to really experience every moment – and with a small group, we kept our numbers below 40, I could do that.

However, our families really wanted the opportunity to invite all of their friends so that they could celebrate with them as well. As a result – we had a very large engagement party in Toronto (where I am from), that my parents threw for us, and then my husband’s parents threw the post wedding party for their friends at their home upstate. It worked out really well actually – I did all the wedding planning, and enjoyed every moment of my wedding, but didn’t plan a thing for either of the other events, so although they were much bigger, I was able to enjoy myself as well because I was not stressing the details!

Why the New Leaf Cafe?  The New Leaf was, I believe, the last place we saw. We had seen at least 30 places at that point, and were very stressed by the whole process. I really wanted a city view – and Adam really wanted an outdoor ceremony. Finding those two things, together with a space that was not overwhelming in size for our small group was tough. The New Leaf fit nearly all of our criteria – I had some city view, but that was made up by the gorgeous outdoor space. The prices were very reasonable, the size perfect, the food amazing, and to top it all off, it was a non-profit that had a goal we loved supporting.

    Dennis -
Those favours were from the upstate party - which I had absolutely no role in the planning of it! I will find out from my mother in law and get back to you soon!

How beautiful and the venue seems perfect. I am in love with your dress where did you get it and what's the style? I also love the old photos of relatives wedding pictures what a nice and personal touch!

    Dennis:
I was just directed to this blog because someone had seen the photos of my wedding favors. (Thank you so much, Tamara and Adam!) And so, yes, I am the baker who made the wedding favors for Tamara and Adam's wedding. I am the "Me-Oh-My Pie Shop and Cafe" and although my website is still under construction, I can be reached at debevery@earthlink.net. So glad you liked the favors!!
I must also say how absolutely stunning the entire wedding looked. The attention to detail was remarkable. And the dress - oh my goodness.
