From Inspiration to Reality: The Design

March 26th. 2010 by Abby Larson | Filed Under | 31 comments

Okay, kids. Now is the time to grab that cup of coffee and find a very comfortable seat. And if you’re at work and there is no such thing as a comfortable seat, just make sure your boss can’t see you because you are going to be swooning hard in one very short second. This shoot was put together by Megan Fickling of La Partie Events, along with Lindsey and April Killingsworth of Sweet Monday Photography, and is pretty much…all of my dreams come true. Especially the dress. And the really cute pink and navy palette. And the cake. And the flowers.

In searching through the inspiration boards for our favorite, the first thing we fell in love with about the board Shawna created was the dreamy color palette. We were drawn to the contrast of the dark berry with the pale shades of pink. We also loved that the elements in the board appealed to both our homey sides (those pies!) and our glamorous sides (that dress!), and we hoped that in order to keep things fresh, we could inject a little bit of a modern feel into the shoot as well.

As wedding vendors and former brides, we know all too well how easy it is to blow your wedding budget – things add up fast! In conceiving this shoot, we really wanted to try as much as possible to keep things realistic overall. We did allow ourselves a few splurges – namely, Ghost chairs for the table and some seriously gorgeous flowers for the centerpieces and bouquets, but we know that in an actual wedding with 20 plus tables, those items alone would eat up a large portion of any budget. So for the rest of the shoot, we tried as much as possible to sway toward the “reality” side of things, and choose just a few things that we felt were really important to the overall look.

Bailee, I was wondering if the flowers were solo wood. They are awesome, if there are. I just made bouts out of them and was thinking of also incorporating them in my bouquet.

  23. Hi everyone! So glad you love the shoot. Some answers...

FLOWERS: The cream flowers are wood flowers. The floral arrangements also includes black berries, pink roses, pink orchids, black pussy willow and pink nerine. I don't know the exact name of the black berries or the pink flowers around the exterior of the bridesmaid bouquet but you can always take the photo to your florist. They are both available between Jan-March in SoCal. I often see flowers at the mart and use them without memorizing the names. My process is organic in that sense.

    TIE: not sure

GOWN: This particular style was created by the designer himself for the bride. It was the combination of 2 of his dresses, I believe. Our bride model is one of my former's brides, Nicole, and her hubby Abram. They rock. The bridesmaid model is also a fabulous former bride of mine, Nadia.

NAPKINS: We sewed them from fabric we bought in downtown LA. Also sewed the runners.

TABLE #: designed by Mae Mae Paperie, see credits.

TABLE # HOLDER: restaurant supply store (where I bought the silverware too)

Just flipped my lid. This shoot was soooo amazing! Um... I REALLY want this to be my wedding!!!

  27. Amberdawn says:

I love all the berries. Blueberries, Black raspberries, berries in the pie, berries in the flowers. What a "sweet" theme. I'm trying to figure out how to work in red raspberries on the tables since that's one of my colors.

  28. ducky826 says:

Can anyone tell me where the Bridesmaid's dress is from?? Absolutely adorable!

  29. ducky826 says:

^^ I looked on the Anthropologie website and couldn't find it... If someone could give me a link or something, I'd really appreciate it!
