I am so excited that the incredibly talented trio behind some of my ALL TIME favorite DIY projects on SMP is back with another perfect little lovely. Remember these ridiculously darling pinwheels that were actually debuted in the loveliest of photoshoots ever? Um, yeah. Explains the excitement. Karrie and Elizabeth of Posh Paperie, along with photographer Jackie Wonders, have done it again with a new project that I have fallen for hook, line and sinker. Perfect Dupioni Silk Yo-Yos.

How perfect are these? I am obsessed. Totally obsessed. And am definitely heading to the fabric store this weekend to start crafting. Okay, you want to start by pick out dupioni silk fabric in your color of choice. You will need matching thread and a pair of scissors. You’ll need to cut out various sizes of circles. Each circle will be a different flower.

Step One: Sew around the edges of the circle. This creates a pull or a “rouche” on the edges.
Step Two: Continue to sew around the edges.. making the flower start to take shape by allowing a half circle to form.
Step Three: Continue sewing to finish the radius of the circle.
Step Four: Knot the thread and cut the excess thread.
Step Five: Create various different sizes.
There are so many fun applications for these little gems. Sew them on to table runners, decorate your favors, add them to a plain clutch for your bridesmaids. Transform them into a hairpiece, glue them to your vases, turn them into boutonnieres. Love, love, love. So much so that I am definitely going to convince my friend Libby, whose wedding we are helping to style with Sarah True, to do about a million of them. Thank you Karrie, Elizabeth and Jackie!
Oh and make sure to check out each of their blogs for even more goodness! Click here for Jackie’s and here for Posh Paperie’s!

whimsical fun! is that chicken wire inside of a picture frame?
I can already picture these rustic mirrors with chicken wire at a country garden wedding. Dreaming... I think the silk flowers would be beautiful paired with fresh blown blooms as well. Thanks for the inspiration!
Beautiful job ladies!! Love this!
These are so beautiful and I love all the suggestions on where to use them. They could add such a nice homemade touch to just about anything, corsages for the mothers. I plan on making some this weekend to hang amongst a hanging picture backdrop for an upcoming birthday!
What a spectacular way to start a Friday!! :O)
I'm interesting in showing old pictures of both of our families at our wedding, and this has given me a very pretty way to display them. Great ideas!
This is so stinkin' cute. This will be perfect for my grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary party. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks everyone! Those Posh gals are SO incredible, aren't they?!
oh my gosh! this is AMAZING. i LOVE the B with the pinwheels on it!
i always see these gorgeous pinwheels on shirts or bags, but 1. this is another awesome way to flaunt them, and 2. the items i usually see that have them are SO expensive, so im so thankful to now know how to do it myself!!! what a great wedding idea too!
thank you for posting this "how-to!"
Great job girls!
I LOVE these yo-yos! What a simple but lovely DIY project.
I'd also love to know about the white "flowers"! Are they paper or fabric? And are they glued together? Please, do share : )
What about the white flowers? Are they made out of paper? I'd love a tutorial or source on them :)
I love this look!
Can we PLEEEEAAASE have a tutorial on the white paper(?) flowers?!?! They're LOVELY and compliment the silk yo-yos so well.
L.O.V.E this! So cute and I am so doing this for my board at home!
this is sooooo pretty! can we also have the tutorial for the wonderful white flowers???? please?
Just what I have been looking for!
In LOVE with this project. Please do tell about the white flowers.....
This project is adorable. I have been looking for letters or numbers like the B shown here. Any idea where I can get those?
These fabric flowers are beautiful. Thanks for sharing! These would be great in wedding decor, or any decor for that matter! Time to get crafting..
These are beautiful! I love the color palate chosen.
Beautiful, thanks for the tutorial! Will definitely have to try this over the weekend!
I just made these this weekend with my mom. I made large burnt orange flowers from 13 inch circles and smaller beige flowers from 12 inch circles. we then sewed them on top of each other and covered the center with little cream fabric flowers we bought at a craft store. they came out AMAZING! thank you SO much! we are going to hang them on the pews of the chapel during the ceremony and then hang them on the back of the bridal party chairs at the reception. what a wonderful idea!
These are great! I have dress pattern I've been wanting to make for my toddler and it has a flower like this one sewn to it! I appreciate the detailed instructions!
Thanks so much for sharing! Love these! They're so pretty and simple! <3
I LOVE these!
However, as a math major (BORING) I have to say that your directions are incorrect...you are sewing around the diameter not the radius. The diameter is the circumference of the circle. Anywhooo...the pictures really helped and i'm so glad i found this. Just a Math person thing i suppose. :)
I'm totally just kidding! You have it right...just wanted to make a stressed out bride laugh! Stress release ya know!
Could you make these with cotton and still have the same effect?
Anyone tried this already?
I am Loving this website. totally awesome! Thank you! : D
Has anyone figurednout how to so the mirror??? I want to make it so bad. :)
Very cute. I was wondering how to make the other flowers. What are they made of?
Thanks.
