Do all of you know that I’m Abby’s mom? And that all this wedding love started many (many) years ago when Abby’s oldest sister announced her engagement? Although there are twelve years difference in their ages, Abby & her two sisters’ weddings each … were the best times of my life. Even after raising my daughters, planning their weddings with them brought a new sense of intimacy and an even deeper friendship with each of them.
The reason I mention this is because I got the sweetest note from another fellow Mother of the Bride.

Jen’s mom thanked SMP for being such an invaluable resource of ideas and inspiration while she and Jen went about planning this day. Her heartfelt thanks brought back sooooooo many memories for me of helping Abby realize her wedding dreams. Were their things we would have done differently? Of course. But, were there so many moments we will cherish forever (that only she and I share)? Absolutely.
And so for those mothers who are fortunate enough to be helping their darlings bring their dreams to fruition … today’s feature is for you! Savor this time with your lady/child. Let her lean on you, bounce ideas off of you … even rant a little bit when the planning details get a bit too much for her! It’s an incredibly awesome time … for both of you!!

The reason that I’m fortunate enough to get to show off Jen & Josh’s wedding on The Little Black Book Blog is because their incredible cake and florals were designed by LBB members!

I’m not really sure if I’ve ever seen anything more beautiful!!
This intricately designed cake was created by Fleur de Lisa Wedding Cakes … {Fleur de Lisa wedding cake gallery}

And the flowers from Fleurs de France … Are they not seriously incredible? {featured wedding on Fleurs de France}

Jennifer and Josh were married on October 3, 2009 at the V Sattui Winery in St. Helena California. Here’s what Jen had to say about her wedding …
As true travel buffs, Josh and I wanted to infuse our wedding with a travel theme. We couldn’t afford to fly all our family and friends to Tuscany or Provence, so we chose Napa Valley as our destination. V Sattui Winery offered an unbelievably beautiful and cost-efficient location– giving us the glam, Old Country look that we desired, without breaking our bank. To the location, we added little “travel” touches– photos of us highlighting some of our numerous international, backpacker-style trips, Moroccan lanterns (hand-painted by my mother), a photo booth with the words “Passport Photos” emblazoned on the side, “Air Mail” envelopes for guests to ferry off their “passport” photos, a henna-inspired copper-colored cake… etc. Overall, the theme was warm, golden Europe. Twinkle lights and innumerable votive candles glittered– just check out the barrel room for the reception! It was a truly romantic wedding.

Jen sent us soooooooo many gorgeous images (courtesy of Luke Snyder Studio) from their wedding, I’m not really sure how to stop!

And from Joan Elizabeth (Jen’s mother) …
I wanted to let Abby and everyone at Style Me Pretty know how important they were to the planning of Jen and Josh’s Napa wedding. I was privileged and blessed to have been able to play a major part in helping her plan her beautiful wedding and without Style Me Pretty, it surely would not have been as gorgeous as it was. Style Me Pretty was my daily inspiration and so many ideas from the blog were put into effect. Gorgeous lanterns, pashminas, menus, programs, floral ideas, gift bags, etc. many inspirations from featured weddings and Little Black Book vendors! I read the blog every day, 3 or 4 times a day, amazed by all the beautiful weddings and hoping that maybe someday, Jen’s wedding would be featured.
I dreamed of her wedding day from the time she was 2 seconds old. In the delivery room, they told me I had a girl, and my immediate words were, “I am going to be a Mother of the Bride”. Her wedding was a dream 29 years in the making! It was 14 months in planning every little detail, down to monogrammed towels in the bathrooms, and soap and lotion dispensers that I took the labels off of and put on the monogrammed labels I had made for Jen and Josh. Again, all inspired by daily reading of Style Me Pretty. Reading the blog was my daily joy! Style Me Pretty is a Godsend for every bride and Mother of the Bride!

We can’t tell you how good that makes us feel. To know that we have made this whole crazy wedding planning thing a wee bit more enjoyable for even just a few people … well … it’s an honor and a pleasure! And WE thank our Little Black Book members who have joined us in the journey!

The Bride and Groom did indeed have a photobooth and it was the hit of the night!
The photobooth sign read:
Strike a Pose

Beautiful colors - unique cake. Thank you.
What a dream wedding! I want to get married all over again, just so I can have Luke take my photos ;)
Luke Snyder was a dream to work with! Check out his blog for even more incredible photos! He is an incredibly talented photographer and we were so lucky to have him!
My heart is SO warmed to see SO many awesome comments with this post that contain my photos. This whole sha-bang was so awesome from start to finish, it deserves some further ideas on how to get shots like these.
1. Communicate clearly to your loved ones on what you want for your wedding.
2. Demand excellence from your photographer. Make it clear. Treat them awesome 'ever after that.
3. Have an engagement session and BE YOURSELF. It helps that photog see how you interact with eachother.
4. Share your details and plans and the things important to you with them just as much as you did with your mom. While no photographer likes "the scavenger hunt list", many of us actually enjoy reading a story about what your dreams are as we prepare for your wedding.
5. Consider having a "first look" session, where a mix of spending the night apart and other traditions can merge sweetly into a photographer chosen backdrop, and transition into family/wedding party photos that show you glowing just 15 minutes after you first see your partner. It really helps the day move wonderfully.
6. Trust those professionals you spent so much to hire and enjoy yourself. Candid photos are the best, and those with frowning brows don't look as nice as those ones with authentic smiles.
7. Feed your photographer at the same time your guests are fed. Feed 'em good.
8. Also consider having another "romantics" session that lasts just 5 minutes somewhere late in the reception. The moonrise shots of Jen and Josh were REALLY fun to make and took just seconds to craft. Aside from that, the breathe of fresh air and another moment to connect outside of the party deepens the day.
9. Spend just a moment and give thanks to your photographer after their long day with you. Even though they're kind of a stranger, they often return to their studios to spend 40+ hours reliving the day and processing it to perfection. It'll make your edit much nicer, and more pleasant for them if they match your glowing faces to a heartfelt thanks at the end.
I just wanted to say Thank you for posting the information on the "Strike a Pose" card. I am getting married in April and rented a photobooth!! Thought it was a great way to have a guest book to remember.
Thanks for sharing.
Kim
This was a truly beautiful, romantic, "fairy tale wedding" - I was there. I am the Mother of the Groom. Elizabeth spent a year living and breathing this wedding to make it perfect for Josh and Jen - and she was a success. Hats Off!
Sandy ~ The Mother Of The Groom Deserves a hearty congratulations and tip of the hat as well!!! ~Eddye
wow stunning! This wedding was over the top romantic! Enchanting, and nothing but a fairly tale! Love this so much. Love the ambiance and the wine barrels!
This is truly one great wedding! The photos are quite marvelous. It displayed the all the fine details of the wedding. Love the mixture of colors, the lighted candles and wine barrels are all such exquisite decors. The ambiance is warm, cozy, elegant and breathtaking. Love everything about this wedding!!!
Absolutely gorgeous!!
Where did you get that veil it is beautiful???
Hi Marchetta,
The veil was purchased at JMajors Salon in Charlotte, NC. It is a Cheryl King Couture veil with Swarovski crystals and seed pearls, cathedral length with a custom blusher. It was so beautiful!
My fiancee and I are looking into this winery as a potential venue, but have concerns regarding 1) having enough time with guests given the limited time span from 6:30 to 11 and 2) having enough space in the barrel room for somewhere between 150-200 people and a dance floor that has enough space and is viewable by most tables if possible. Would you be able to comment on these two items by any chance? Thanks!
Hi Melancholy,
V.Sattui Winery was absolutely wonderful to work with and the venue itself was nothing short of magical and enchanting..the allowed time frame may not seem like a lot/ but I don't think we felt short-changed at all. We had a woderful cocktail hour, dinner, dancing, cake, dessert buffet, and photobooth but I felt we had had enough time to enjoy the wedding and mingle with guests. The best people to speak with regarding the barrel room capacity would be either Carli or Pat at the winery. They can honestly and truthfully tell you how many guests the room can accomodate. We had less than a 100 people so we had plenty of room and I think all the tables had a good view of the head table and there was plenty of room for dancing. If you would likeany other feedback feel free to email me at wardjoan@sbcglobal.net...I would be most happy to answer any other questions you might have...best of luck in your wedding planning!
Wow! That is probably one of the most stunning weddings I have seen yet and believe me, as a soon to be bride, I have seen alot! Gorgeous colors, flowers, bride (her pictures are true in the moment shots). Fantastic and looks like a great time! Great job. Truly impressed!!
