From Inspiration to Reality: The Design, II

January 22nd. 2010 by Abby Larson | Filed Under | 17 comments

When we first started our From Inspiration to Reality feature, we didn’t really know how, when or frankly IF the concept would find its big girl pants and grow into something great. Well, I think that we can officially say it has. I have no idea how these vendors (like today’s photographer Jessamyn Harris and designer Jess Flood) come up with such innovation and such gorgeousness shoot after shoot, but they do…and I’m loving it. I think that it has something to do with getting back to their roots. Designing a moment that is purely made for devouring. And for our SMP brides, it’s the perfect way to find those details that you want, that you must have, that you can’t live without. And to think, it’s all inspired by Emilia’s gorgeous board.

From Jess Flood

The original dress–where do we start–first we have to pay homage to the designer, Valentino, whose work is timeless, impeccable and so very feminine.  We LOVE this dress.  Through a bit of digging we discovered there was no way to get our hands on this particular dress, but we were unwilling to settle for a pale imitation of its perfection. Instead, the dress became our key inspiration with its icy blue shade and ethereal ruffles and rosettes informing our decisions on everything from the dining and cake tables to the invitations, cake and flowers.

We were also inspired by the vintage silver, the romantic pink roses, the old wood and the modern typography in the board, we wanted to pull all of those elements together, and create a setting that was Wintery, feminine, and quietly elegant.  Every vendor that we had the pleasure to collaborate with on this project completely understood the effect that we were looking for and each element that they contributed fit perfectly with what we imagined.

I feel like this shoot really captures what SMP is all about.......it's a little bit vintage, a little bit girly, there's a little nature thrown in there to mix things up, and it's a LOT beautiful and timeless. Awesome awesome awesome work, everyone.

the photo of the couple with the birds taking off in the background is absolutely perfect!

  11. Libby says:

I think the flowers in the rainboot idea is great, even just to liven up my front porch. Love it.

Also, I'm getting married at the Audubon Society in PA and while sometimes birds scare me a little bit (why did I pick this venue?) they look great in these pictures. I hope mine turn out similar!

Simply beautiful. I love the fact that you're choosing vendors in different cities and really showcasing local businesses with each Inspiration to Reality. The original board was gorgeous and I definitely agree with Tonia that this captures the vintage/girly/nature vibe.

  13. Glad everyone likes it so much! We adored that board. The boots are from Target, I love them so much! And Libby - we were all kind of intimidated by the birds, but they weren't scary at all. They didn't come very close to any of us because they are just so excited to be out and circling around. I was nervous about positioning the models close to the birds, but no one had any issues, and they looked very cool doing their flight pattern thing.

  14. Everything about this photo shoot is like a dream come true...a very stylish wedding dream filled with doves, a gorgeous dress and baby blue rain boots!

  15. The wedding cake is elegant!

  16. I totally agree on the wedding cake!!
