After the incredibly thoughtful feature that Christian did for us about how to work with (and get the most out of) your photographer, I thought it might be fun to show you a few of the real weddings that the Christian Oth team has shot. Perfect examples of just how important finding that relationship is in getting the most beautiful wedding photographs ever.
This wedding was held at the Harold Pratt House in New York, shot by Alison Mayfield. The images are romantic, dramatic, utterly gorgeous. And although we could go on and on bragging about the work that the photographers with Christian Oth put out there, we thought that instead, we’d just start a conversation. So feel free to ask the team questions in our comments section about working with your photographer. They are on hand to answer!

The fabulous Lyndsey Hamilton is responsible for the planning and coordination and Matthew Robbins of Artfool is behind those gorgeous flowers and the unbelievable event design…top to bottom. The gorgeous calligraphy and invitation design is by Laura Hooper.
Can you imagine having images like this to grace your walls. To show off to your friends. Amazing. It’s as if each one tells a story, gives us a little window into the pure beauty of the day. Alison blew me away with this wedding, which isn’t shocking considering we feature pretty much anything that Christian Oth Studios sends our way. Anyway, we thought that this affair was a perfect example of how beneficial it is to form that relationship with your photographer. The images are intimate and personal, they show those little moments that make you feel like you know the couple. And it’s that intimacy that is the key to getting really great photographs from your photographer.
So again! If you have questions about finding the right photographer, forming that relationships, the questions that you should ask…leave a comment below. Christian and his team are on hand to help!
Oh and don’t forget to check out Christian Oth’s brand spanking new (and totally awesome) site. The work that you’ll see is downright gorgeous.

Oh my goodness...these photographs are simply breathtaking! And her gown is a dream! The picture in the limo looks sooooo couture!
These are great inspiration for the way I would like my own photographs to look!
Could there be a prettier or more glamorous bride? The images are exquisite!
Oh my God this wedding looks incredible! The level of detail is amazing! Who is the dress designer? I love it!
oh my goodness, I am in LOVE with the dress! Yes, who is the designer????
What gorgeous photos! I love the first one, the last and the one of the bride in the car.
I am drooling over these photos! The limo, the dog, the stairwell, the last shot. OMG these could not be any more perfect.
really nice to see this type of wedding!! LOVE her gown! the whole wedding is simply gorgeous!
very nice! and classy. impressive thanks!
I am a bride with a very small budget. My fiances cousin is a photography major at a local university and she shot our engagement photos. She graduates this spring. They are perfect photos but I am a bit nervous to ask her to shoot our wedding. Do you have any suggestions on using someone that is a "newbie" to wedding photography?
i must know where her gown is from, so refreshing to see a gorgeous ball-gown that is not strapless!
Chrisitan- LOVELY LOVELY work! I would appreicate some advice-
We are fortunate to have developed a good relationship with our photographer and are pretty much giving him creative freedom. We are having a traditional church ceremony after which we are alotted 30 minutes for our photographer to snap those "family" portaits at the front of the church. I would love to avoid anything that looks too stuffy or run-of-the-mill, but I know I have family who will want us to capture those group pictures at the ceremony site. Any ideas on how to creatively assemble people for these pics?
Incredible photos. The headband with the veil is stunning. I'd love to know where the headband is from!
Oh my! Those images are just simply gorgeous! As is the bride and groom!
Sarah, my guess would be that the headband is by Jennifer Behr.
Jessica - I totally agree! I love seeing this type of wedding, too! City-set/urban weddings are my favorite because they are soooo chic!
Hi everyone, I'm the bride in these photos. Thank you so much for all your amazing compliments! We are thrilled with the photographs. To answer everyone's questions:
The dress designer is Ines Di Santo. Gown name is Carlotta.
The headband is from Jennifer Behr.
Thanks, Elizabeth! You were an absolutely gorgeous bride. :) (And good guess, Heather!)
Elizabeth, you looked amazing!
Could you tell me, did you have a "first look" session or did you take photos with your husband after the ceremony? We are trying to decide the best way to get beautiful shots like these.
Thanks!
Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments. Alison did shoot a gorgeous wedding there!
Hannah:
Well, there is always a first time for someone to shoot a wedding. The first one I photographed was my best friends wedding WHILE I was the best man. You can imagine what the coverage was like... Fortunately it was a very small affair and we were able to pass the camera around... In your case - it's a judgement call. The one thing I would look out for is to make sure that your photographer is a good photojournalist. Have a great wedding!
Suzanne:
Great, that you're giving your photographer his creative freedom. The family portraits are the hardest to be really creative at and it totally depends on your family's and your photographer's energy and creative skills. I find some families want really formal pictures, but I always make sure that I get those in-between shots to get some genuine moments. Sometimes those will make it into the album instead of the stiff portraits. That said, go all out creative with your bridal party. Just have fun!
Ummm...I am at a complete loss for words. These images are absolutely breathtaking. So, so, so romantic. Thank you Abby and Christian Oth!
Elizabeth:
You look absolutely stunning! So elegant. What an amazing wedding you had.
Christian
Christian: Thanks so much! You, Alison, and Sue were phenomenal!
Sara A.: We took photos before the ceremony. Our ceremony did not start until 5:30 and it would have been dark by the time the ceremony ended, and we wanted to get some shots in the daylight. Plus it allowed us to transition immediately to the cocktail hour and not be stressed about the time.
Oh. My. Word. These are so gorgeous. So elegant. So opulent. So rich. Love it.
Christian, thanks so much for the really helpful article. Like many couples, one of the aspects we are most excited about is the photography. In the article, you mention that a final meeting is extremely helpful. This seems like great advice, and we certainly plan to take it. Beyond logistics, is there anything you find really useful to discuss? Thanks again.
Elizabeth or Christian,
I have a similar set-up - my ceremony will be starting at 5:30, and my groom and I are thinking of doing the first-look in order to not be so pressed for time. Would you mind sharing your time frame for the first-look session? When did you start the session and how long did it last? I'm starting to put together my day-of timeline, and that would be such helpful information! Thanks! xoxo
Breathtaking images! Would these images be classified as Fine Art , journalism, documentary style? I wasn’t aware of thes photography terms until I started to research photography but the works of Jose Villa and Aaron Delesie come to mind! Thanks!
Hi Christian,
Your photos, and Allison's are very inspiring. I'm getting married this May. We don't have the budget to create such an extravagant wedding as the one featured here. Our wedding will be a bit more casual. We're very plesaed with our photographer so far.
Do you have any tips to celebrate our more casual wedding in the photography.
Hey, a new look for SMP--and what a beautiful opportunity to move from garden to ballroom! I love the luxe feeling of this wedding, and the black-and-white photography compliments it particularly well.
Digm11:
Logistics are usually the great ice-breaker. They need to be discussed and usually lead to other questions. Another really important thing to discuss and make the photographer aware of are any special family dynamics (if any...)
RHOOC Bride:
I would say all of the above. A good wedding photographer should be adept at all of these different specializations of photography. Some photographers are more drawn to fashion photography, some more to photojournalism.
Becca:
There is so much you can do with great ideas. I have seen many weddings on a shoestring budget that looked absolutely amazing. I would use the Stylecircle part of this site for inspiration.
What a stunning, classy affair. Bravo Christian for capturing everthing so beautifully. These are deifnitely timeless images!
Ok- Elizabeth- you are stunning. I can't say anything more; the photos speak for themselves! Details on your beautiful necklace!!!!
Christian- you need to come to Toronto ;)
Heather, to answer your question about the timeline, our photographers arrived to the hotel where we were getting ready at 1 PM, we left the hotel at 2:30 and then took pictures both at a park and at Grand Central Terminal until 5 PM.
Tiffany and others, thank you so very much for your sweet messages!!
Wow! These are absolutely stunning. I'm getting married this year we are planning to design and make small books on travel like the ones here. Is it possible for you to post a few more details on those?
Thank you!
Thank you everyone for your comments about this stunning bride & wedding! Our fabulous team coordinated the event and the incredible design was due to the amazing Matthew Robbins Design!
Please please please show more photos from this wedding!!! It is too gorgeous not to see more!
These photographs are so stylish and breathtaking! The embrace in the city street is a classic gem!!
Beautiful images! These couples must be over the moon with such gorgeous documentation of their wedding day.
My question is about the wedding photography business. Any advice for how to get started as a wedding photographer? Thanks so much - I truly appreciate any insight!
Beautiful images...as always!
Christian: Everything from your studio is always flawless. Thanks for posting Elizabeth's elegant wedding!
Elizabeth: You look so fabulous and you were such a pleasure to work with!
Lyndsey: Your team was wonderful to work with as always. The event was seamless and everything seemd to fall into place as scheduled!
Everyone: My amazing team worked very hard on this lush, romantic wedding. I enjoyed all of my design meetings with Elizabeth choosing rentals, color palette, blooms, and more!
Wow this is a spectacular wedding! Great photography, you really captured the details in the wedding and will be timeless for years to come. Congrats!
Christian, your photographs are absolutely lovely! You had great material to work with; a beautiful bride and stunning florals that make that venue pop.
Elizabeth,
The wedding looked so beautiful. It was truly wonderful working with you last year on all the stationery!
Lyndsey, I look forward to working with you on many more weddings this year!
Christian, gorgeous photos, as always.
Congrats to all the vendors who collaborated on such an amazing wedding!
WOW! I am dying here! These photos are gorgeous!! Is the bride a model? I must see more photos from this wedding! Thank you SMP!
Wow, the photos are gorgeous! Elizabeth - could you tell us where you got your necklace? I'm looking for something similar...
Elizabeth,
The shot of you petting that sweet little dog could be a poster in an art gallery-I am crazy about it-I'm featuring it on my blog next week!
What a gorgeous wedding, this is one of my favourites of 2010.
Leah,
Thanks for the compliments. I purchased the necklace at Neiman Marcus a while ago. It is by Majorica so if it's no longer available at NM it may be available through the Majorica website.
Kim,
Thanks so much for your compliments! I love dogs so I had to kneel down to pet it when I saw it walk by us.
I love the bride's hairdo. This wedding reminds me of Jacqueline Bouvier to John F Kennedy.
Hi Elizabeth,
I would like to know if your dressis for sale?
I would love to purchase it.
