Backyard Wedding from Michele Waite

December 29th. 2009 by Elaine | Filed Under | 32 comments

I just love a backyard wedding… especially when it’s a lovely affair like this one sent to us by Michèle Waite. So simple and still so effortlessly chic. I am particularly smitten with this color palette… the pretty pinks and soft grays, just gorgeous. The whole event took place in their family’s backyard overlooking the beautiful San Juan Islands.

From the event designer, Steve Moore

Mac, a published writer and Jenny, a school teacher were married at their parents estate overlooking the San Juan Islands. The ceremony was held in the backyard, cocktails in the front yard and the reception in the neighbors yard, so we were able to really create multiple spaces for them. The guests were greeted at the gates by oversized balloon bouquets. Color coordinated note cards were also at the gate so people could write their wishes for the bride and groom. The front yard hosted the cocktails, soft seating area and bar tables for guests to mingle around.

The backyard was used for the ceremony. We kept the decor simple with hanging flowers and lanterns from the trees, a podium made from a tree trunk and small arrangements and petals going down the aisle. After the ceremony the bride, groom and family members changed into traditional Korean attire for the Paebaek ceremony, which the bride wanted to incorporate into her day to honor her heritage. The guests then enjoyed more cocktails in the front yard while the reception space was completed. I used a clear span tent so I would not take away from the natural beauty of the area. My staff surprised the bride and groom with a fireworks display after the the first dance was completed.

This wedding is full of sweet, delicate touches, but I just cannot get over the spectacular flowers which included, garden roses, hypericum berries, scabiosa pods, lucadendron and traditional roses were mixed with foliage for the arrangements.

Lucky for all of us Michèle has many, many more photos on her blog including the beautiful images of the traditional Paebaek ceremony. Thanks you Michèle for sending this charming event our way!

    Danielle,
Jenny's necklace was custom designed and constructed by her friend who owns Schwa designs. http://www.schwadesigns.com/
This designer usually does not work with pearls, but made an exception for Jenny. It complemented the dress perfectly and Jenny looked stunning.

Whoa! Super bizarre, but someone was just showing me pictures of this very wedding yesterday!!! And lo-and-behold, I check my favorite wedding blog, and here it is again! Her daughter in law is one of the beautiful bridesmaids. :) Perfectly LOVELY wedding—I ADORE the necklace!

The shoes are called Julia Rea from Nine West—I've been looking for them everywhere!!! They are hard to come by ladies! I can only find them in black now. I even emailed Nine West to see if they could bring em back! :)
