From Inspiration to Reality: The Design, III

December 15th. 2009 by Abby Larson | Filed Under | 11 comments

It’s easy to get excited about blogging when you get to write about such gorgeous features as today’s From Inspiration to Reality Shoot. Meagan Gilpatrick of Maine Seasons Events headed up the shoot with an incredible concept and design, perfect inspiration for those of you searching for a little rustic elegant eye candy. Ashley Vaughn of Occasions Bridal & Tuxedo provided the insanely gorgeous lace gown and the perfect turquoise shoes. And the cake, crafted by Little Black Book member Erin Gardner of Wild Orchid Bakery made the day just about as sweet as it could possibly get.

From Erin Gardner, Wild Orchid BakeryWhen designing cakes I like to take in the overall picture of the wedding and really compliment the other items involved. When Meagan emailed me the pictures of the dress I knew I wanted to use the lace detail. In my mind, dresses and cakes go hand and hand so I really wanted the two to relate to each other without being a direct imitation. Once I had the bottom two tiers done in the blue with the lace overlay, I decided to do the top in ivory with a gold band around the base to draw the eye upward. I wanted the scale of the cake to be reminiscent of the dresses waistline. Sugar flowers are one of my specialties, so to complete the cake & add a personal touch I placed a single ivory rose with subtly shaded petals to give it an even more vintage feel.
