DIY Inspired Colorado Wedding From Jenna Walker Photographers

December 15th. 2009 by Eddye | Filed Under | 46 comments

Seems as if we’ve had a slew of Colorado weddings on the LBB Blog lately, but we really couldn’t pass this one up! Shot by the fabulous Jenna Walker and submitted by today’s beautiful SMP bride, Lacee … well, it’s simple and chic with a casual flair ~ done perfectly!

From Lacee …

After losing our planner it was all on me in the last 30 days on a super tight budget to pull off the amazing wedding I had always dreamed of.

The weeks leading up to the wedding were spent making the place cards, tables numbers, favor bags, menus and program on the chalkboard. Our wedding was so US and I loved putting together every piece. I had the idea to create our ring bearer’s pillow from one of my great-grandmother’s handkerchiefs. My Mom sewed it and we placed a magnolia on the top with ribbon in the center from which we tied the rings… CUTE!  I love the vintage look of the pink and light blue fabric and the importance of the pillow.

On my amazing bouquet by Plum Sage Flowers, I tied the locket of my great grandpa Cleo. He pretty much raised my Mom and me and is the most special person watching over us. The ring that was also attached was my wedding gift from his wife Luella ~ her wedding ring that he had given her July 14, 1936. His presence was VERY important to me.

Nate made the benches himself and engraved our names in the one that we used (ours was salvaged from an old dance hall and it was the template for the larger benches used as the seating during the ceremony and at dinner). We used Ralph Lauren gray and black paint to distress paint all 16 benches. We also engraved the initials of our parents on their respective front benches.

My dress was by Maggie Sottero, the Harlow design, first dress I tried on and loved it!  I loved the lace and vintage feel and couldn’t get enough of the flower!

The JEANS… LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how amazing Nate and all of our guys looked in the jeans … we were going for a very southern hospitality but trendy wedding with a vintage flair.  Love it and achieved the exact look we were going for. No bouts for the guys and no ties. Untucked shirts. So us.

The junior bridesmaids are my two sisters. It was important to me to set them apart from the other three girls. Their dresses are BCBG and they looked radiant!

Meredith Brewer from the Westin Riverfront helped us with the amazing cuisine for our special day with smoked salmon, rock shrimp and caramelized onion pizzas for the cocktail hour followed by tangled greens with sweet potato strings and amazing filets or roast chicken for dinner.

Nate works for the City of Boulder Fire Rescue so we had a miniature chrome fireman’s axe engraved with our names and wedding date by Eagle Engraving. Our cake topper was by Toppers With Glitz and looked amazing on the all white and ivory cake.  Perfect and exactly the cake I dreamed of. Simple and so pretty. Our cake flavors were champagne vanilla pistachio and Columbian espresso chocolate for Nate’s groom’s cake (a life sized replica of Nate’s fire helmet).  Terrific job by the pastry chefs at the Westin ~ we were blown away.

Our favors were black and white (chocolate and coconut) gourmet donuts from The Tin Star Cafe and Donut Haus, a BBQ place in Evergreen, Colorado!

Our location was BREATHTAKING! It was a dream and worth all the effort!!! DIY at its best … A day I am thrilled to look back on every day!!

What a GORGEOUS day. Thanks so much, Lacee & Nate and Jenna for sharing!

I love all the details in this wedding...from the blue jeans, to the flower girl dresses, to the bride's shoes and wedding dress and the ...oh so wonderful photos with the last one being my favorite. I love the backdrop of the clear blue skies, and the different shades of green from the trees and plants all set in a nice, warm countryside setting. This is all beautiful work. Congratulations!!!

Stacey ~ I pieced together the place cards on my own, with help from Nate, we cut, pasted and printed them all ourselves. I'd be happy to help if you'd need any!

Lacee, Thank you so much for letting me know about the blog post! How exciting! Love the contrast of the cake cutting "utensil" and the cake topper. Too cool.

Is that the 18 or 36 inch axe? I have been thinking about ordering this but was unsure if the 36 would be too big. And I love the idea of making the beaches! We have been looking to rent benches but I think you have changed my mind.

Jo ~ the axe is the 18 inch for sure, its pretty heavy so I'd stay with the smaller one. The benches were so easy and we had so much fun making them, they really added our own touch to the day.

Ashley ~ The crystals are from Jamalia Garden and worked out great! My hair was the easiest thing, I spent about 15 mins in pin curls, spray, pin, spray again and go:)

Can you tell me about them too? I am also in love with your hair. I am meeting with my hair dresser this weekend for a trial run so am bringing a picture of your hair!!

Sarah ~ The earrings are Anna Bellagio, very resonably priced and she has tons to choose from. My shoes are Christian Louboutins and I can't say enough about those shoes :) Thanks for your sweet compliments, glad I could help!! Enjoy your wedding!!!

It's not often I come across a wedding that has an idea I haven't seen before... The blue jeans totally made my jaw drop - in a good way! They really work and add to this beautiful wedding! Congratulations to the bride and groom.

I thought black wasn't appropriate for a wedding though the contrast with black and white is really good. I like this wedding! Beautiful.

Wow! What is not to LOVE about this wedding? I want to get married again and have so many of these details. I've always loved how the black and white combination looks and am amazed by all the details that make the wedding laid back but elegant at the same time. Amazing. Great job! Can't wait to share it with my readers.

    Lacee,
We're getting married in Beaver Creek in March. Thank you for all of the links to the wonderful resources!!! Your wedding was gorgeous! Where did you find the Louboutins? SO fabulous! Going to try Neimans, but wondered if you had an internet source?

Lacee - I am in love with everything you did. I think the guys' attire is my favorite though! How did you do your twig centerpiece - is that curly willow? Where did you find everything and was it inexpensive? I have been researching to do something very similar, yours is the first I've found that I have loved everything about! What a beautiful day you had!

How about the branches on the first picture... nice!! I was set on manzanita branches but wasn't excited about the price... that would be a PERFECT substitute, what kind of branches did you use? Everything about your wedding was absolutely gorgeous!!!!

    Lacee,

I noticed a few girls had mentioned your stunning CL shoes. I am a wedding planner and have a bride that is desperate for a pair. We've tried all over the world, literally, and can't find them. I'm just curious when and where your purchased them, I'm beginning to believe these shoes don't exist anymore. :)

    January 21, 2010 at 12:17 pm

Hi Kailey, I found them online, when I purchased them they were all over, I noticed that I did find them much more in blue... maybe that would be an option for her. I hope she finds what she needs!!! Tell her to for sure by non skids for the bottom of the shoe... JUST IN CASE:)
