This darling wedding was held at Point White Pier in Bainbridge Island, Washington this past August and was just about the cutest little affair I’ve ever seen. Not a ton of details…but who cares! The couple is so stinking adorable that you hardly miss them. And they happens to have the sweetest story ever, so I knew that I had to share.
Oh and the bride is the food blogger behind the fabulous blog Kiss My Spatula.

Here are a few words from the bride…
Our wedding style was beach meets country, vintage meets modern, Vietnam meets Ireland, boy meets girl. Besides being held on a Thursday evening, when all vendors (even the most highly sought after ones) are available, and being engaged for 5 years, it was obvious to everyone that we led our lives to the beat of our own drum. Our wedding day would be no different. We’re both kids at heart, who also long for days of old fashioned romance and simplicity, where less is more. Coming from a large Asian family (spanning 4 countries) and Tony being from Ireland, there was much expectation on both sides for a big, three-ring, blowout extravaganza. But, that just wasn’t us.

As much as we love our families, we wanted to remember every moment of our wedding day. We didn’t want to spend a year planning it. Initially, we had planned on going to city hall, but decided that a small ceremony would be nice for my parents since I’m an only child. We didn’t want to ask Tony’s family to fly across the pond for a tiny ceremony, but they had different plans and showed up the day before the wedding at our front door! Talk about wedding crashers!!

So…the story continues like this: ‘Tis a warm mid-summer’s night, as my father walks me down our favorite pier, along our favorite stretch of beach, on our little rural Island in the Pacific Northwest which we call home. We want something simple, timeless and full of love. The simple includes 6 short weeks of planning, $50 to reserve the pier, and a guest list of 2 (well, 4 including the wedding crashers). The timeless consists of flea market finds – a vintage tablecloth, cake cutter, plates, napkins, suitcases and the unmistakable sound produced by an antique hand-crank gramophone, which plays (with the groom’s brother doing the cranking) ‘A Kiss to Build a Dream On‘ from an original 78 rpm record. ‘Out of Africa’ is our favorite movie of all time, so we knew we wanted to include a gramophone in the ceremony. The music drifts across the water, as the sun sets behind the Olympic mountains. Full of love are our vows and our wedding poem. There isn’t a dry eye in the house….

Our experience is proof that sometimes the smallest, sweetest and most intimate gatherings are also the most memorable and powerful ones. With all the components of a larger, more traditional wedding (ceremony, reception, cocktails – bottles of Guinness in our case – photographer, flowers, cake, music, rings, etc.) but done on a teeny-tiny scale, we were able to soak up the fun, creativity and low stress of the planning process while fully being able to enjoy every moment of the day. Our (little) big day was a vision we saw in our hearts and minds that we turned into a reality, all by ourselves and all in 6 weeks.
And for the food, we had a surprise 6-course tasting menu that featured whatever ingredients were freshest and most beautiful from Pike Place Market the morning of the wedding. A meal of a lifetime! Being a food blogger, this was quite an important component of the day!
