I am so thrilled that one of our readers, Kate, designed a board that could inspire such loveliness. This shoot is the perfect example of how to use an inspiration board to translate an entire wedding. It’s about designing a feeling, a vibe. It’s finding beauty in the details and bringing them to life through decor, through flowers, through fashion and style. And Millie Holloman, together with Jennifer at Salt Harbor Designs, did just that.

Rather than doing a summary at the end of the day, describing how you can apply this same style to your own wedding, I thought I’d sprinkle in a few ideas throughout the day. Starting with using old furniture as accents. It’s the idea of bringing the warmth and charm of a home into your wedding decor. You can find old pieces at flea markets, at garage sales, maybe even in your parents basement. Distressing the furniture with paint is an easy way to get that shabby chic look on a next to nothing budget. Whether you have your reception indoors or out, bringing in old furniture to act as display tables for desserts, cakes, old photos, flowers…is a genius way to get a lot of bang for your buck.

And in lieu of a guestbook, from Millie and Jennifer…
For the guest book, we decided to employ a different use of the word letter. We used an old PO Box unit and set up a station where guests might write the couple short letters and tuck them into envelopes for the couple to read later. We printed custom pre-addressed envelopes and added vintage stamps. Brent Holloman Design made us wonderful 3-D paper letters that spelled out “Just Married,” which were positioned within the mail boxes.

The AMAZING flowers that are pinned to the back of the guest chairs were done by The Paper Doll and were pinned to letterpressed place cards that Jennifer at Salt Harbor designed. And when I say “it’s all in the details,” it’s precisely these beauties that I am referring to. When interpreting ideas tucked inside this shoot, look to the details. The abundance of small touches that bring the entire story to life, that give the wedding style a personality of its own.

What came first the chicken or the egg? I mean, the dress or the cake?? Wow! Gorgeous and seamless. Bravo!!
I love the photos of the couple under the tree at the table and with the swing. So romantic and beautiful.
The dress came first, then the cake, and the idea of anemones came from the style board.
the cake is just gorgeous. the flowers are not fondant, are they?
Wow, what an amazingly charming wedding! So beautiful!
I absolutely love the cake! The whole vintage chic theme is amazing, my favorite!
Wow, I'm in love with this wedding! So beautiful, and beautifully shot.
Best guest book ever. Love it.
I LOVE the letter idea as an alternative to a traditional guest book...Any recommendations on where to get pretty vintage stationary, envelopes and stamps??
Thanks!
We purchased vintage stamp stickers at www.hellotraveler.com. We used 3.5 x 6.5 coin envelopes and used parchment paper for the letters.
I LOVE THE FLOWERS!
love.it.all. you guys nailed it!
Love the photos and the Just Married Book Case. We actually used one of those as the place card holders. Attendants handed out the alphabetically organized place cards as guests arrived. It was a huge hit, and a beautiful piece of furniture to have as a prop.
The flowers on the cake are made of gumpaste with fondant details and the cake itself is covered in fondant.
I have absolutely been loving this shoot, it's one of my favs! On a side note, I had to mention that I really appreciate that a normal sized model was used, bravo!!
The cake is absolutely exquisite! I am amazed at the details on the flowers.
I've been seeing a lot of outdoor weddings lately (this one and Jessica Claire's as examples) that are making use of large pieces of vintage furniture. I would absolutely love some designer commentary on this trend... It's different and often beautiful, but I'm not sure I totally get it.
gorgeous. love the rustic nature and vintage feel. simply exquisite!
How absolutely charming and ethereal! I love the paper flowers on the backs of the chairs. The vintage chic look of weddings is a popular trend but brings such a timeless feel with all of its elements.
This is one of the sweetest shoots I have seen. I adore the details and the use of vintage furnishings.
I am flipping out over the dress! I see the designer is Joy Noelle.... what is the style name/number? I need to at least try this dress on! It is exactly what I have been looking for!
Beautiful colors. This is similar to a wedding I'm working on at the moment- British colonial theme!
OMG the most gorgeous wedding design i have ever seen!!!
These are really grear inspirations if you are thinking about an outside gardenor remodeling your current porch. The tables and shelves look attractive and useful. As long as they will not occupy too much space in your home and if you know effective storage solutions, this would not be a problem. You can referesh the look of your residence and use these photos as insipiration.
Wow, this is fantastic, I love the use of reclaimed furniture around. Love the shots.
Gorgeous! the people behind this project is genius. I just love everything, great work.
