Okay! Now on to the pies themselves. This was probably the easiest thing that I have ever done and coming from the world’s worst baker (I swear, I’m not exaggerating)…that really says a lot. I fully admit that I cheated and bought pre-made pie dough. For one round, I made the filling myself but then I discovered that they actually make pre-made pie filling, so you know I jumped right on that bandwagon. Sad, I know. But they turned out so stinking cute, who cares!

Materials
Pie Dough (pre-made or homemade)
Pie Filling (we went with Cherry, starting with this recipe then using the pre-made stuff instead)
Disposable Mini Pie Tins
Red and Pink String (or whatever color you want)
Bamboo Spoons from Green Feet
White Bakery Boxes (6″ found at Michaels)
Red cocktail napkins (or whatever color you want)
Pie Tags by Grapevine Invitations
Instructions
1. Make your mini pies. Leaving this part totally up to you! For cheaters even bigger than me, I spotted some cute mini pies at the grocery store over the weekend.
2. Using both colors of your string, wrap the pies like a package, tying your spoon onto the top and making a cute little bow.
3. Tuck your unfolded napkin inside your bakery box, then place the pie on top. You can either slide the tag right inside so that it’s a complete “look” when your guests open it OR you can use more string to tie up your bakery box threading your tag on to your string before you tie the knot.
Voila!

I made these last year as "take-home pies" for Thanksgiving, so that people could have some pie with their leftovers. I couldn't find mini pie tins so I used Reynolds Aluminum cupcake liners in a cupcake pan and just fitted the pie crust into that. They were the perfect size, adorable and dirt cheap.
Also a great finishing touch is Williams Sonoma's decorative pie crust cutters- if you just cut out a little leaf and stick it right on top they look beyond beautiful (I can't tell you how many times I was likened to Martha Stewart that day!)
Thanks so much for sharing, Abby! After I saw the Inspiration Board come to fruition I was dying to know how you made those mini pies look so damn cute! I think this is a great idea for a Bridal Shower!! Definitely be trying in the future; I especially love the label tags and the ted an pink yarn and the eco-friendly mini spoon! Thank you, thank you!
I think I might do this with mini pumpkin pies for thanksgiving now!
We got married on Oct. 9th and our favors were my gram's homemade (mini) apple pies. They were such a big hit. We had mini pie boxes, tied it w/ pastry string and added a thank you tag.
We're doing pie in a jar for favors - it's a pie baked into a half-pint canning jar. You can make ahead and freeze, then bake the day before the wedding. Yum!
these are too cute. I love 'em.
I was curious about the price per person for the filling and crust - has anyone done this? Thanks!
does anyone know where i can find mini pie tins? i'd like to make these as favors for my march wedding, but haven't seen them...
I found some cute little tart disposable aluminum pie pans at this site:

What is the price range on something like this?
Price for the tins Kesha linked is approx 10 cents each (assuming shipping), easy filling made from berries is about $5 for a full-size pie, so maybe $0.5 - $1 for the mini-pies, plus crust... a box of crust mix is about $3 and would make... maybe 4 pies, so that would be approximately 75 cents, and crust made from scratch would be more like 10 or 20 cents per pie.
i would estimate a total cost of around $1 per pie for all handmade and $2-3 if parts are purchased pre-made.
