Austin Wedding with Charming Details

October 27th. 2009 by Elaine | Filed Under | 39 comments

Today has kind of turned into a do-it-yourself day… and you can see why. The wedding we featured earlier today was loaded with colorful hand-crafted details and this afternoon’s feature is no exception. Sent to us by Bella Flora Creative, Libby and Matt’s wedding at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, was a charming affair with lots of sweet little touches… in other words, right up our alley!

I love, love, love this color palette. It’s modern but still very natural… and the soft afternoon light with the pop of bright yellows and bold grays, is just divine. Now… about those little fabric flowers?!?! The mix match patterns add a ton of character to the color scheme. Seriously adorable!

From the wedding coordinator, Harper Ferguson

The bride and her mother made the cute fabric flowers that were dotted around the reception including at each place setting. All of the wish cards for the bride and groom were kept in vintage library card catalog boxes and the escort cards each featured fabric buttons that corresponded to the fabric flower favors at each place setting. Each guest received a personal blank journal from Libby and Matt with their favorite Latin phrase.

  4. Iis says:

  5. Katie Jo says:

is it possible to see a DIY tuturioal on the fabric flowers?

  6. Libby (the bride!) says:

    Thank you, everyone!
Kay, we got the wooden table numbers from www.sjawoodesign.com and spray-painted them grey ourselves. It was a cinch and much more affordable than metal house numbers.

  7. Libby (the bride!) says:

    FYI to lis,
The escort cards are not actually buttons. Instead, we made a 3/4" hole punch on a piece of linen cardstock and sandwiched a bit of fabric between two cards so that it would show through. Names and tables were printed on the cardstock beforehand (though calligraphy would be a great option too). We rounded the corners to finish it off!

Where did the couple order those journals from!? that is SUCH an awesome idea for any literary couple!!

  13. Libby (the bride!) says:

    Martha,
We got the blank journals from Hobby Lobby and designed the covers using Photoshop. We had them printed at the local copy store for better quality.

  14. Elaine says:

@Marguerite, the dress is Watters from Serendipity Bridal in Austin.

  15. Chloe says:

  21. Libby (the bride!) says:

    Chloe,
We started at 6:30pm but the August sun is long-lasting, so it was still fairly bright at that time of day.

  22. Libby (the bride!) says:

    Sarah Phillips,
I got my headband at Serendipity bridal in Austin, TX (http://www.serendipitybridal.com/index.htm ).

  23. Libby (the bride!) says:

    Jayne,
Actually the box is homemade! My uncle is very skilled in carpentry, so he created this beautiful box for us and inlayed the "G" which is our last initial. He built it with two rods in the bottom of the box so that the cards (with two slits on the bottom) would stand upright, but these are removable, so we can use the box as a keepsake for anything for the rest of our lives! It was a wonderful present.

  24. Jason Grubb says:

    Amazing Details. Love it.

  31. Lauren M says:

  32. Michelle C says:

    Hi Libby ~

Great wedding! Did you use a pattern for the fabric flowers? Any info would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks!

  33. Courtney says:

where did you get the escort cards with the circle cut out???

  34. Sarah says:

Libby your dress is amazing! Who is the designer?

  35. Libby (bride!) says:

Sorry for the late reply--I hope it's not too late for me to help!

The dress is by Watters, several years old at this point.

My mother did the bulk of the work on the fabric flowers, and she made her own pattern. I will have her post her methods here soon!

The escort cards were simply cut from cardstock that we bought at the craftstore. They're maybe 1.75" x 3" rectangles, and we rounded the edges with a paper cutter. Each escort card requires two cut-outs. Before cutting them, though, we figured the measurements and used the computer to print the names and table numbers onto the cardstock. After cutting, we used a round hole-puncher to make the circular cut-outs on the top sheet (measuring up from the bottom for uniformity). Then we used spray glue to attach the fabric square to the bottom sheet and more spray glue to attach the top. Et voilà!
