Karen and Carter were married this past June at The Outdoor Art Club in the heart of Mill Valley, CA. Natasha of Waterlily Pond worked with Karen to design a fresh, vibrant wedding filled to the brim with warmth and love and a spectacular feeling of joy!

Karen is the vp of creative services at Williams Sonoma and is known in her circle of friends for her love of the color orange! It seems pretty safe to say that with those credentials, her wedding is going to be good!

Natasha ~ the terrific floral and event designer behind this affair said this of Karen & Carter’s wedding …

The style of the wedding was very organic and nature-inspired. For the ceremony we used rustic white birch sculptures with kiwi vines and an explosion of orange flowers. The aisle was defined with leaves instead of rose petals. We used many whimsical organic elements in the florals – berries, pods, grasses, persimmons, pomegranates and figs in centerpieces and arrangements. Karen’s bouquet was wrapped in bark-covered wire with a brooch made of a tiny pomegranate, and included orchids, monkey tails, chocolate cosmos and lots of different interesting grasses and greens.

And from the bride …

I’d sum up my style as “rustic elegance” – we focused on the natural charm of the setting, highlighting with summer’s most vibrant colors and flavors. We really wanted to keep everything very personal, inviting all our guests to a destination wedding in our own home town of Mill Valley… …tables were named for favorite destinations where Carter and I have explored the great outdoors….twigs, pinecones, and birch were all parts of local nature we wanted to bring inside…

I read a little bit about The Outdoor Art Club on their website. I thought what they said about themselves was super …

If you envision major decoration installations, lighting plans and other means to “transform” this space into something else, this site is NOT for you. The OAC is meant for people who appreciate the site’s rustic style and charm. For those this space can be a magical, memorable setting for your event.

  4. kris says:

Marcie, I almost positive that the shoes are BP from Nordstroms. I think they run about 60-70 bucks!

  5. bridesmaid says:

I love the chocolate and orange colors. Those flower arrangements are gorgeous!

  6. Lindsey says:

Who did those fantastic coasters? Love everything about this wedding!!

  7. Nicole says:

I must know how you made the cake stand and ensured that the surface was smooth/sanitary enough to serve from. That's EXACTLY what I have envisioned for my wedding!

  8. Catherine says:

I love this rustic setting. gorgeous wedding!

  9. Jamie says:

this Dress is stunnning!!!! lllllove it! who is the designer? I don't know this one!

  10. I am absolutely in love with the execution of the color palate used here. I can really appreciate the details of this rustic wedding. The color scheme here is just what I was envisioning for my own wedding. I knew I always wanted chocolate brown dresses, and these are it! Does anyone know where these dresses are from? They are divine.

  11. Rosemary says:

Gorgeous Natasha! Everything looks just beautiful... no big surprise coming from you. Congrats!

  12. I used a large tree stump for the cake stand. We sanded the surface of it, so it was very smooth. Also finished it with the butcher block oil. So it was just as clean as the wood cutting board. But the cake usually comes on a cardboard or foil base under the bottom layer. So the cake itself doesn't touch the stump.
I believe Karen designed the coasters herself, and had them made. Hope she will have a chance to answer this question herself.

what a beautiful wedding! so stunning and yet nothing about it screams over the top or embarrassingly expensive... absolute perfection in my book :O)

  14. MM says:

The shoes, the shoes... I'm looking for some beautiful red shoes... and those can be it! Where are they from?

  15. Angie says:

The rustic feel of this wedding is great. I know that it was in June but the colours are so lovely to see at this time of year in the fall.

  16. Candace says:

Oh my gosh I LOVE IT! Does anyone know where the dress is from? It's EXACTLY what I'm looking for!

  17. Elvira says:

The Shoes!! The dark orange color is amazing!

  18. Annie says:

I love your bouquets and flower arrangements. I'm getting married next October and struggling with my flowers (I know I'm WAY early...). What kind of flowers did you have? Thanks! :)

  19. Cheryl says:

I know that a lot of people have already inquired about Karen's shoes but I just have to also say how amazing they look. They remind me a lot of the Grazia Sophia shoes, which I fell in love with a long time ago. My only concern was that they were not dyeable and I want to dye my shoes the color of my bridesmaid dresses. These shoes look so similiar and it would solve my agony!! Karen, please let me know where you found these shoes! Thank you in advance.

  20. Karen (bride) says:

Well, many thanks for all the compliments from all of you! We enjoyed every aspect of planning our wedding and the big day brought wonderful smiles and tears of happiness as you can see. Thanks to Natasha and Jillian, we were in great hands. To answer a couple of your questions: my dress was a San Patrick - 2009 Bahia line. I'm not sure if it is around anymore... And, the shoes were BP from Nordstrom as someone else guessed. Reasonably priced, comfortable and just what I was looking for in bright orange silk. The Chocolate birdesmaids dresses were from JCrew.

Thanks again for your interest and kind words... have fun with your own planning!

  21. Annie, don't struggle with your flowers. October is a great month for the flowers. In our area dahlias are my favorite at that time of the year. They are available in many great colors. I used them for Karen's wedding too, their season stretches from late June through the end of October. Lots of great fall materials are plentiful too - leaves, berries, persimmons and pomegranates.
