DIY Wedding in Arizona, III

September 29th. 2009 by Abby Larson | Filed Under | 24 comments

Love, love, love everything about this wedding. It’s completely delicious with touches that are as effortless as they are completely lovely. The gorgeous bride also just happens to write the most adorable blog called August and After, where she’s documented much of her wedding and the planning that went into the day. Plus she includes a few great DIY projects like the centerpieces that she used for her own big day, so it’s definitely worth a trip!

More from the beautiful bride…

We did many things to create our wedding with a small budget of around $6,000, including creating our own centerpieces from scratch using mason jars with oil and pictures, old books, vintage maps, and bottles gathered from thrift stores. We also skipped dessert and instead got busy on the dance floor to our DJ, the iBook G4. My lovely ladies did my hair and makeup, and my maid of honor and I purchased our Nicole Miller dresses off of eBay. My hairpiece and bolero was from shops on Etsy and my shoes were actually ballroom dancing shoes, super comfortable for dancing all night! Our guest book was index cards strung up for people to write their wishes or words of wisdom and a “Wedding Tree” where they stamped their thumbprints as leaves.

Instead of using our caterer’s supplies we ordered eco friendly serving ware and were able to provide biodegradable cups, utensils, and plates! We skipped traditions we didn’t want to follow, and kept the ones that were important to us. My grandmother handmade a garter for me from my mother’s veil, and the women of my family created my bouquet complete with wheat stocks, feathers, and a bird! Our wedding was perfect for who we were, and how we wanted to start our long life of love and absolute dedication to each other. It was a day full of love, overwhelming love.

Thank you so very much to Cori and Evan for sharing their amazingly gorgeous day with us. We are a little bit more in love than we knew was possible, left dreaming of twinkle light dances and picture perfect details. We have more coming up for everyone in just a bit!

This wedding is like a dream! The colors and style of photos, the work that went into it! What an event! A big kudos to the photographer, the composition of each scene is quite amazing. All of this with a 6,000 budget - WOW!

This just goes to show how far a little creativity can go!

  8. Sarah says:

this is really beautiful...the bride & groom, their friends & family, and that inspired setting...such a dream! The photographer did such an incredible job capturing the love of this day :)

  9. Abby says:

It really WAS as great as it looks, folks!

The bride and groom are two of my closest friends, and their wedding day ranks as one of the best days of MY life!---a VERY close second to my own wedding day just two years ago.

For future brides out there, here's what I learned from Cori and Evan: Use your wedding day as an opportunity to capture the clearest representation of who you are and what is most important to you. That's what will make it memorable.

This day was, without a doubt, focused around the love and close relationships that fill Cori and Evan's lives. It was an experience for all of us; everything about this day helped us know and love Cori and Evan just a little bit more.

Wow! 6,000...I'm glad to hear that it's still possible to create a such a beautiful wedding on such a humble bugget...kudos!!!

  11. Angel says:

WOW...that pretty much sums up the overall style of the event and not to mention the tremendous photography that captured the event. Job VERY well done!!

  14. Timmi says:

I want, want, WANT that photographer! The location & these pictures are insanely awesome... I can't pick a favourite. I wish she'd come to Sydney and do my wedding, alas (sigh).

  15. Sarah Neal says:

Thanks for the fantastic comments everyone. All of them. Cori is mostly to credit for all her beautiful details. Timmi - Sydney? I am SO there! I think you might overshoot a $6000 budget though if you have to pay for a photogs air ticket. haha. Anyway... what a crazy surprise to find myself on here! A good day for me. Just watched my niece be born and on top of that I get a wedding featured on SMP!

  16. Genevieve says:

  22. Proof that you don't need to spend a ridiculous amount of money to create a beautiful wedding day. Stunning photos - I love the shot with the bride and groom standing in front of the jeep.

  23. Tonia says:

The bride and groom look so so so in love, and all the pictures of the friends and family really reveal how much these two are loved. My kudos to the photographer who so artfully captured the raw emotion of the day. The details and location are beautiful, yes, but what really makes this wedding so breathtaking is the LOVE that is so powerfully present.

  24. ss says:

What is the name/design of her dress? I love it!!
