New Orleans Wedding by Mason Jar Films

August 28th. 2009 by Eddye | Filed Under | 24 comments

I love working with really talented Cinematographers. We have quite a few in our Little Black Book and Chris Jones of Mason Jar Films is definitely one of my favorites. His vignettes are more akin to movies than to a wedding video…with dreamy music, an unbelievably elegant approach and a beautiful depiction of the day. I have yet to see one of his films where I don’t tear up and this one…this one is no different!

We have the AMAZING wedding story coming up next!

Chris filmed our wedding last summer. We absolutely love the documentary because it so accurately portrays our rehearsal and wedding. We watch it over and over.

  2. Gina Jones says:

Beautiful work! Love the B&W! Looks like it was a nice & elegant wedding :)

  3. Aaron Tharpe says:

    beautiful work, as always!

  4. Tait Larson says:

First time I've heard jazz in a wedding video. I really enjoyed it.

  5. Roberta Smith says:

Mr. Jones has done it again..and again. He created an intimate documentary of our wedding day 5 years ago and guests still rave about the quality. Personally, it is the single most meaningful investment we made to remember that day. It moves me to hear the vows and music we chose! Also, to see the decor and the expressions of our friends and family it is truly like reliving the event all over again. I never have a request to fast forward! You will never regret picking Mason Jar Productions.

Mason Jar Films is first class all the way. My husband and I got married and May and we were surprised with our documentary by my mom at a family reunion! At the end of the amazing film the room was filled with tears and my husband and I felt like we had just relived our wedding. Mason Jar is extremely creative and on the cutting edge of film. We could not be happier with our results!

  7. Abbi says:

Mason Jar is fantastic and hands down the best vendor that I hired for my wedding in January. I would recommend him to ANY bride.

  8. Jaime Loke says:

We were not planning on having a videographer for our wedding because all the wedding videos I had come across BEFORE Chris' were not our style. Then I found Mason Jar and we have a wedding video that is absolutely breathtaking. Chris' work is in a league of its own and we are SO happy with the results. He was a joy to work with, the guests barely knew he was there because he is THAT good and I highly recommend him to any couple who is getting married. His art is simply priceless.

  9. Amy says:

Here is an excerpt from the 'thank you' note we sent Jones (the name Chris often goes by) after we got the video. If you are even thinking of filming your wedding (we went back and forth) do it right and hire Chris Jones.

    Dear Jones
What a beautiful piece you have made and how grateful we are to you for creating it, especially on such a tight turnaround.
To tell you the truth, I hardly know quite how to express myself. The film makes us catch our breaths, each time we watch it. Jones, the film is just gorgeous. Really, really nice. Oh, and we absolutely love the soundtrack!
We love having the toasts woven in, and you did a beautiful job with the voiceovers. Capturing my dad's long toast on love (the three elements he wished for us) was truly masterful, and you did wonders with Dao, my maid of honor, as well. I also love the clip you put in of Gil (officiant), Anna, my Grandad in his wheelchair, Jeffrey and me - it was great to see that again. As we finished the film for the second time tonight, with big sighs and squeezing each others' hands, Jeffrey looked at me and said he just wants to marry me all over again!
Ha - I also noticed for the first time the close up of beer being served by the bartender at the reception - fun-ny! Subtle and a great postlogue.
I think that it stands beautifully, movingly, touchingly as a film that Jeffrey and I will treasure, and watch each year on our anniversary. We can never thank you enough, and you are worth every penny. Cheers!

Jones of Mason Jar is truly an amazing film artist. I just love seeing his work on display. Fab!

  11. Robin says:

Being a wedding planner, hiring an AMAZING videographer was a huge priority. So of course, I chose Mason Jar. I'm flying Chris out to Islamorada, FL to capture my wedding day. Hopefully you'll see it on SMP next year! :)

  12. Steve+Z says:

Chris has an amazing ability to bring old charm to the modern times. His films are like no other with the way he makes a connection between the viewer and the characters and story. Thanks for the inspiration.

  13. jvbride says:

I like this old film look. However, it kind of bugs me that I can't hear what the bride is saying. Her mouth is moving but we don't hear the words. if this was my parents wedding video, and I was watching it 40 years from now, I would want to hear their voices!

  14. jones says:

Hey jvbride. You can certainly have both the sound and the film. One option is to have the filmmaker shoot with both video and super8 film so that the video captures the sound to be used later. See this clip: http://tinyurl.com/kuny9r

If you don't want the video look and want to stick with the super8 film exclusively, you can have the filmmaker to record important audible moments separately and sync them up while editing. I did it with part of the vows from Somesha's wedding here: http://tinyurl.com/mjonfn

Or if having it shot on film doesn't matter to you, then most filmmakers these days are adept at weaving together great narrative video pieces that really tell a story. See this sample: http://tinyurl.com/lx95tb

Whatever you choose, I'm sure your kids 40 years from now will love it!

  15. Monica and Michael says:

Chris is truly an artist and a professional, which is a rare combination. We loved the look of the 16mm film he offers but didn't have the budget for such a luxurious media. With this in mind Chris helped us map out a way to use only 3 rolls of 8mm (which we could afford) to shoot "important" moments, like our first dance, which is being interwoven into the rest of the digital footage. It is a perfect result.

Chris also has an incredible eye for editing. In five minutes he can capture 5 hours of pre-wedding preparations in a cohesive comprehensive way that makes you feel like you were a part of the enitre (much longer) process.

We could honestly go on forever about how blown away we are with his work. Not only did he capture our day effortlessly and candidly, but he did so without the tiniest bit of intrusion. He was like a fly on the wall, one with a really nice camera and mad artistic skills :)

  16. We knew the moment we saw "Mason Jar", Chris Jones would fit our eclectic syle. The Demo had us insisting on his company vs. the cheesy competition, and the service experience left an indelible mark on us for always. You see, we started with an unlimted budget and ended with an elopement DIY destination wedding. As you can imagine , we were devestatingly stressed out. Chris' character shone through to us as a trusted friend throughout the process & though the 8mm? footage didn't turn out for us in the end- this video captures the one untarnished day we were willing to pass up a 100k wedding for. Chris not only worked with us to make a 9 minute short video for our Dallas wedding reception guests a month later (in just 2 hrs editing), he faithfully delivered our most priceless possession besides each other for our forever Valentine.
The result is so unique & masterfullu edited we don't miss one smidge of the overblown extravagance, but thank God for the fact it led us to Chris' full-value ROI results. We choose Chris along with a designer dress & wedding-but Chris was the only one we weren't willing to give up.

  17. Wynne says:

chris is absolutely wonderful to work with - Stephen and I love our wedding video and watch it often - my friends have probably watched it even more! Everyone loves it and so many friends have asked Chris to document their weddings after watching his work. He truly documents all the important moments and when you watch it again and again, you feel as if you were THERE. I love his work and we love Chris - he has been a joy to work with and our family continues to have a relationship with him. We love Mason Jar!

  18. casey warren says:

I am in love with your super 8. Great film, the black and whites make me want to toss my gear and shoot all super 8

  19. Lynde says:

Chris filmed our rehearsal dinner and wedding in Dallas. Not only is our video killer - he's such an easy-going guy to work with through it all. His eye for angles and "cool shots" are really great. My husband loves that he picked up on the smaller details and incorporated those into our video. He even agreed to come over to our home and take some footage of our 20 lb cat and worked him into the wedding video in a superb way....now that's customer service....! Thanks Chris for being out there as a choice in this wed industry - I hope I have an occasion to see you again. Lynde

  20. Kendra Young says:

Chris filmed our wedding four years ago, and it was the absolute best decision we made for our wedding. We were on a tight budget, but Chris really worked with us and ended up creating an incredible highlight video that captures everything about our wedding day. Everyone always tells you that you can't remember so much about the big day because so much is going on, and it's absolutely true. We have some beautiful photos from our wedding, but nothing captured the feel of the day like the video. Every time my husband and I watch it, we get to re-live the happiest day of our lives.

  21. meg simone says:

Jones was a speaker at ReFrame Austin this past April and his inspiration and knowledge about putting together wedding films has done more for my business in the last year then I could ever ask for. He's overly talented, a great documentarian and film maker.

  22. David Perry says:

Classy and timeless! Love your work Jones and thanks for being so willing to share your talents not only with brides, but with wedding professionals as well. I can see why you were named as one of the top 25 Videographers in the world for the past several years!

  23. FayAnn D says:

Love your work there!! ITs amazing how your unique style just captures everything so beautifully!

  24. Vanessa Rankin says:

It's hard to believe that my wedding was over 4 years ago but Jones captured it timelessly. It is such a wonderful feeling to know that there is a moving piece of history, one of the most important, most thought out and most expensive days of my life, that I can share with my daughters and they will get to live that moment with us just like they were there. Everyone and anyone who watches it gets to feel the same way! The comments that I ALWAYS hear are how my wedding looks like it was a movie and that people can never sit through a wedding 'highlights' video again after seeing his work. I am in the TV/Film industry and was completely terrified to hire anyone because I didn't think they would meet my standards. I cannot rave enough about how he has surpassed anything any girl would ever dream of for capturing their fairy tale and making it look even better. His work is amazing, he is amazing and brides are really lucky that he does this for a living.
