Giveaway by Sarah Drake!

July 30th. 2009 by Abby Larson | Filed Under | 25 comments

We have a REALLY fun, totally fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants giveaway for you guys. Sarah Drake, one of my favorite invitation designers, is looking for one lucky bride to help her with a brand new invitation design…called, “love letters.”

Before we unveil the invitation, I wanted to share some of the history behind this invitation. The inspiration with a little movie called Harold and Maude.

From Sarah…

This 1971 movie is my favorite love story: unconventional, a little dark, and deeply sweet. It inspired our personalized stationery, Love Notes, back in 2006. Then, we decided to take it a bit further, taking our love of all things vintage, the uniqueness of written correspondence, vintage stamp collections, and unabashed declarations of love and combined them into a new kind of invitation.

Okay, now for the absolutely gorgeous, completely appropriate new design which will use letterpress printing charcoal ink on imported Italian paper …

Believe it or not, this is exactly what wedding invitations used to be. Sweet, personal, handwritten notes that left guests feeling utterly touched and hugely special. So here is the deal.

Sarah is asking that you guys send in your own personalized wording…something that captures your personality, style and the sentiment of your wedding. You can either leave a comment right here OR if you feel more comfortable, you can email your wording to Sarah at info{at}sarahdrakedesign{dot}com.

She’ll then choose 1 lucky reader to receive a set of 100 invitations with printed envelopes, 100 response cards with envelopes AND 100 thank you notes. The invitation is tidied up with a string and a wax seal, also included in the giveaway. In a nutshell…that is HUUUUUGE. To see the FULL SUITE, click right here!

Here’s the catch. You MUST have your wording in by the end of day tomorrow. That’s 6PM on Friday the 31st of July. This means that your final, final wording for your invitations has to be submitted by Friday, as it’s going to the printer on Monday. Sarah can help you finalize it if you are unsure. But, if you aren’t basically ready…don’t play! Sarah will choose the winner on Saturday.

Good luck to all! We’d love to feature the final design on SMP when all is said an done!

Sarah, I am so happy to have checked Style Me Pretty before going to bed tonight! I have been to so many invitation websites and haven't quite found what I'm looking for until seeing your idea. It was one of those, "Why didn't I think of this?!" moments. Our wedding is so similar to your example (the barn, the tree!). Also, because my grandparents are no longer here, I am including some of their love letters to each other, in our programs and possibly on the napkins. They are the most romantic and quirky little letters! I am emailing you my wording asap.

  5. sharon says:

    Sarah,
Thank you so much for the generous offer. Strangely enough, my (now!) fiance and I saw Harold and Maude on one of our very first dates ... and the theme song has stuck with me ever since. I will certainly be shooting you an email in the hopes of pairing your incredible invite with my rustic, family wedding in Vermont (at Christmas!).

  8. Meghyn says:

I sent my entry in! *crosses fingers*

  9. Cicely says:

Not much of a writer but just sent mine in...

Sarah, thank you for such a wonderful offer! When I saw this, I immediately called my fiance and started working on a "love letter" that we would write to our family and friends, inviting them to our wedding. We are high school sweethearts and wrote dozens and dozens of love letters to each other (all saved in our old high school binders)! This would be such a warm and personal way of showing our family and friends how far we've come along since those high school "love letters". Will send an email right now! :)

  11. Thank you so much for this contest!! This is EXACTLY what we need as we are knee-deep in toiling over wedding invites as we speak! Thanks & keep up the fantastic blog!

  13. Chelsea Louise says:

This post made my heart smile. Harold and Maude is an amazing love story, and a well kept secret. It has been a favorite of mine for years. More than anything, it is a story of what it is to be original and unafraid of stepping aside from conforming. What a brilliant idea to carry that essence into weddings, and the stationary is a perfect vessel for it.

  14. Awesome idea! It's so refreshing to see creative ways to customize a wedding!

  15. Mary Foley says:

I'm sending my wording to Sarah now!

  16. Kari Adams says:

Fingers crossed! I sent my wording in last night. This is such a wonderful idea (and is so much prettier than my sloppy handwriting would be for each personalized invite). Thanks!

  17. Danielle says:

An awesome idea! It's so simple, you almost wonder why it hasn't been showcased sooner! Even if I'm not the lucky winner, I'll definitely be carrying this idea into our invites! Thanks for your creativity...

  19. Elizabeth says:

Harold and Maude...a fantastic movie! I am a MOB and remember traveling around California to see Cat Stevens in concert and probably saw the movie at least 20 times back then!

What a wonderful and unique inspiration for a wedding. Bravo!

  20. Molly says:

    Simply beautiful.

  21. Amy M says:

This is the most touching wedding detail I have ever seen. I would be honored to share these invitations with our friends and family! Email is on the way

  22. Jenny says:

This makes me want to get married again - just for the invitations! Harold and Maude is one of my all time favorites. We actually used one of the Cat Stevens songs from the movie as our recessional song! Love Love Love it! Good luck to all!

  23. Brandy says:

This is such a beautiful and much more personal way to invite your loved ones to celebrate the love between two people.

  24. Charlotte says:

I was trying to come up with fun ways to make my invitations personal...so, it would be super fun and cute to play on my soon-to-be, rather unusual, last name. (Trying to embrace it!)

    So, here goes:

    Our Cherished Friends & Family,

It is with our greatest excitement that we invite you to join in our delight as Charlotte Marie is united to her perfect partner, David Lawrence Mustard at Grace Presbyterian Church on Saturday, the first of May, two thousand ten.

Come cheer & break bread with us after these two unique flavors become Mr. & Mrs. Mustard, one perfect condiment at the Woodlands Resort and Conference Center. Drinks and dancing will end the evening as we wish the best for Charlotte and David’s life together.

    Much Thanks,

    Karla and Michael Beehler

  25. sarah drake says:

All of your comments and love letters have been completely, utterly, overwhelmingly beautiful. There is so much sweetness out there, I don't know how I'll choose! Thank you all so much for participating in this. Sarah
