Thank you so much to Grace and David for allowing us to share in their simply beautiful day. It is such a refreshing affair, with notes of sweetness and style infused into every detail.

A few more words from the bride…

We tried incorporating the theme of nature into our event décor as well.  Our florist, Sharla Flock Designs, created stunning centerpieces with floral and natural elements including orchids, calla lilies, horsetails, ti leaves, and manzanita branches.  I had developed an interest in the manzanita after my husband and I spotted one while hiking through the woods.  As a wedding gift, my aunt created the lovely chair arrangements for the ceremony.  All of the flowers coordinated with our color palette of brown, ivory, and blush tones.

We were very fortunate to have Julie Mikos photograph our event.  She was so easy going and a pleasure to work with on the day of.  I appreciate her classic style and photojournalistic sense that really comes through in her photography.  We booked her through the studio of the wonderfully talented Lisa Lefkowitz so in a sense, I felt like we had the best of both worlds with Julie behind the lens and Lisa delivering the beautiful finished images.

Coming up, we have the Paloma’s Nest Giveaway Winner! We completely forgot to announce it yesterday so forgive our tardiness!

So pretty! Thank you for sharing.

Are they chromosomes on the cake, or am I just revealing the geek in me?

  3. Nik says:

I also thought they were chromosomes. Are they??

  4. Grace says:

You're not imagining it, they are chromosomes! My husband came up with the initial design and worked with Debbie Does Cakes to make it happen. We are both scientists and wanted something fun that would also reflect our passion and dedication to the field. There were gold DNA helix-like structures at the base as well as two sex chromosomes on the top tier, detailed with a striped pattern. Many of our guests, also biologists, debated over the accuracy of the representation during the night. The fact that it sparked so much conversation provided a lot of amusement for us.

Oh good. I thought I was the only nerd whose mind instantly went, "Anaphase, metaphase, telophase..." Super cute!
