Real Wedding: Brad + Laura, IV

June 10th. 2009 by Abby Larson | Filed Under | 12 comments

Usually, when I feature a wedding…I get to chat all about it from an editor’s perspective. Well, with today’s affair, I was lucky enough to be a guest so I am able to give a little bit of a different perspective. The ceremony was beautiful, the photographs of the bridal party were ridiculously lovely, but it was the reception…oh the reception…that really stole my heart.

As you walked into the cotton dock at Boone Hall, you saw a really rustic old space totally and completely transformed with huge swaths of flowy, white fabric (and since it was windy, each was blowing perfectly in the breeze), pops of yellow Japanese lanterns, perfect adirondack chairs with pillows that Laura made placed on each one.It was straight out of a magazine so obviously, I was in wedding heaven.

Laura swapped out her veil for a PERFECT Lo Boheme hairpiece and they had their first dance overlooking the water on the beautiful dock. It was the epitome of perfection and honestly made me want to sell my house and jump on the first moving truck I could find heading to Charleston.

Brad and Laura are one of those couples that you just envy. Aside from being MADLY in love, they are also fun, adventurous and incredibly loving. They are my daughter’s godparents and two of our closest friends. We are so lucky to also call them family.

More details on the way including some pretty awesome DIY projects!

Steven Duvall Catering and Event Design (www.Eventsbyduvall.com) were amazing to work with! They draped the entire cottondock with the sheer fabric and hung the yellow lanterns!! Lots of love to them!

  8. This wedding is stunning. Laura purchased a hair piece from me months back, and I have been waiting in anticipation to see how her wedding unfolded, they were definitely worth the wait! Congrats to the beautiful couple!

  9. Loving those pillows, too! Hoping they're part of the DIY tutorials!

  10. Laura says:

The pillows were made from navy canvas and the layered flower is yellow felt (which is super easy to work with.) If you can sew a basic square pillow...then all you need to do is cut out a flower pattern with varying sizes and then stack them. Then you sew through the center of the pillow all the way through to the back and repeat until it puckers up. Does that help?

Ya'll, seeing these beautiful pics reminded me of my incredibly talented friend, Erin of Erin Sage photography. She has also shot here at the cottondock and is very reasonable! www.erinsagephotography.com check her out if you're in the Carolinas!
